Notes / Documentation: Jonathan Evans JESSUP remarried after Mary died according to a diary kept by his son-in-law, James BRYDON, husband of Jonathan & Mary's daughter, Eliza. Jonathan's second wife was only referred to as "an Indiana woman" in the diary. They moved near Fairbury, Nebraska, where Jonathan was living when he died. His body was brought back to Wilmington on the train for burial. Mary's funeral was held at the Methodist Church, Wilmington.

Notes / Documentation: James was born in Liverpool England but his parents were of Scottish ancestry. George BRYDON, James's father, was a cabinet maker and moved to England from Scotland to use his trade. They moved back to Scotland when James was about 4 years old. George BRYDON died 1 Jun 1843 and Eliza Wight BALLANTYNE BRYDON died 12 Jun 1844. James & his sister, Eliza, lived with their Grandfather, George BALLANTYNE, at Ashkirk, Scotland until George died 7 May 1852. 23 Apr 1853 James, his sister, Eliza, and Aunt Jane BALLANTYNE and a cousin, Andrew SCOTT, left via England on the ship "Benjamin Adams" for America. They arrived in New York on 1 Jun 1853. They travelled to Wilmington, IL, where an Uncle, Andrew BALLANTYNE lived. Andrew was known as "The Shepard" James volunteerd 28 Aug 1861 at Chicago in Company K, 42nd IL Inf for the Civil War. He was honorably discharged on 10 Jan 1866 as a 2nd Lt. He then bought eighty acres of land in Charlotte Township, Livingston Co., IL. He married Eliza Ann JESSUP on his 30th birthday, 27 Jul 1868, with Rev. Wardle of Elwood, IL performing the nuptials at the Wilmington, IL, farm home of Eliza's parents, Jonathan & Mary BURKET JESSUP. James BRYDON became a Naturalized Citizen 13 Oct 1868 - picking up his papers in Joliet, IL. according to his diary.
