Notes / Documentation: Frederick Sheppmann and Juliana Greiber Sheppmann, German immigrants, were married November 15, 1890 in Will County, Illinois. They were the biological parents of Clara Sheppmann aka Clara Handwerk Hoffman and Gertrude Sheppmann aka Gertrude Handwerk Hansen. Around the turn of the century, as the story goes, Fred and Julia died in a train wreck and the little girls about 4 and 2 years old, Clara and Gertrude, were taken from the train as survivors and raised by Frank and Lillian Handwerk of Morris, Grundy, Illinois. Later the Handwerks moved to Brookings, South Dakota. Clara married Joseph Hoffman and they moved in 1925 to Alderwood Manor, Washington (Seattle/Everett). Joseph and Clara Hoffman are my paternal grandparents and Fred and Julia, who I have just found our my great-grandparents. Notes / Documentation: Aaron DAVIS and family most likely moved to Will County between 1835 and 1839 looking at the birth and death dates of children in Massachusetts and Illinois. Estes Davis is dead before the census of 1860 where his widow and son are listed. The older girls, Miriam and Eliza do not appear to be living with the family in Illinois in 1850. Probably they married and remained in Massachusetts before the rest of the family moved to Illinois.
