Robert H. BEGGS, Principal Public Schools, Wilmington; born near Virginia, IL, Sept. 24, 1844; 
lived on farm till 1865, teaching at intervals during the last three years of this time; graduated 
at Illinois College in 1868; taught three years in Virginia, IL, as Principal; graduated at Illinois 
Normal University in 1872; returned to Virginia the same year, as Superintendent of Schools and 
Principal of High School, retaining the position till 1875. Married Gertrude TOWN, of Bloomington, 
IL, Sept. 1, 1875, and removed to Wilmington shortly afterward, to take charge of the public schools, 
which position he still retains; two children - Helen Orlena, born Sept. 18, 1876, and Dollie Kate, 
born Jan. 2, 1878.
