John R. BRAIDWOOD, Secretary and Manager Braidwood Coal Co., Braidwood; was born in 
Elderslie, Scotland, March 29,1855, and is the son of James and Ellen BRAIDWOOD. Mr. 
BRAIDWOOD at 10 years of age, entered the coalmines and has been engaged in the coal 
business ever since; in August 1865, he immigrated to America and settled in Braidwood; 
here he has remained ever since. Married in 1877 to Miss HAMILTON, of Scotland.
