Braidwood; was born in Genesee Co., N. Y., Aug. 20, 1837, and is the son of Miner M. and Mary M. BROWN; his father was a farmer; was born in New York about 1811; he remained in New York until 1855; this year, with his family, they emigrated to Illinois and settled in Reed Twp., what is now known as Custer Twp.; here he purchased 320 acres of land at $4 per acre; was among the first settlers of Reed Twp.; made the improvements on his land and engaged in farming; then to Wilmington, where he was engaged in keeping a hotel; he died in 1864, with the consumption, leaving a wife and four children; his wife, Mary M. BROWN, died in 1866. Mr. Edgar L. BROWN immigrated West to Illinois with his parents; here he has been engaged in farming ever since. He married in 1864 to Miss Abbie C.
