D., physician and surgeon, Joliet, was born in Williston, Vt., Nov. 29, 1843; he received his preparatory education at the Williamston Academy, after which he studied medicine in the office of Dr. E. A. POND, of Rutland, Vt., who has since become famous as the inventor of the American Sphygmograph, for measuring and tracing the pulsations of the heart; from his office he entered the medical department of Harvard University, where he graduated and received his degree; March 7, 1866; during his course of studies he served one year as medical cadet in the regular army; after graduating, he spent one year in practice with Dr. POND, in Rutland, and then came West, and located in Wilmington, IL; he practiced medicine there until 1874, when he removed to Joliet; Dr. CAMPBELL was thoroughly educated as an allopathic physician, but, in 1872, having become fully convinced of the superiority of the law of "Similia similibus curantur," or so-called homeopathy, after thorough preparation he joined the Illinois State Homeopathic Medical Association, and, in 1874, was elected a member of the American Institute of Homeopathy.
