The subject of this sketch was born in Rutland Co., Vt., May 28, 1813. He married Miss Eliza A. FISH ApriI 16, 1837; she was born in Connecticut; they have six children, viz., Alfred T., Edward W., Lewis D., Hannah J., Emily M. and Mary E. He lived in Vermont twenty-two years, when be moved to Chicago, and, the following winter, he went to Cleveland, Ohio, and engaged in tanning and shoe-making, remaining until 1852, when he came to his present place. He has held the office of Commissioner for the schools and roads, and has been Justice for the past twenty years; he has been largely interested in real estate in this village, having, divided about one hundred acres into village lots. His parents are not living; his wife's parents were among the first settlers of Cleveland, Ohio.
