EMERY, lumber merchant, Lockport; the subject of this sketch was born in Ellsworth, Hancock Co., Maine, Dec. 18, 1821; at the age of 21, he left home and went to Boston, Mass., where he engaged in the trade of house carpentering; in 1846, returned to Maine, and back again to Boston in 1849; in, April, 1849, be went to California, and engaged one year in mining; he next settled in Oregon City, where he engaged in house building; in 1854, returned to Boston, and in 1855, came West to Illinois, and settled in Lockport; in 1860, he opened a lumber yard, and has continued the business ever since. He was married in 1860 to Sarah P. BARTLETT, a native of Maine; she died without issue. Republican; Congregationalist. Mr. EMERY is a member of the City Council; he is highly esteemed as a man for his many good qualities, and is strictly upright and honest in all his business transactions.
