A. L. GAINES, Foreman George B. NORTON's dry goods store, Lockport; was born in Castleton, Rutland Co., Vt., Sept. 11th, 1843; his boyhood days were passed in attendance upon the schools, and his early manhood years either as a student or teacher; about the age of 19, he entered Commercial College at New Haven, Conn., in which he completed a business course; in 1866, he came West and located in Morris, Grundy Co., IL, where he engaged in the sale of dry goods; in February, 1873, he came to Lockport and entered the employ of George B. NORTON as foreman in his dry goods establishment; a position he still holds. He was married Oct. 21, 1871, to Mary E. ALLEN, a native of Troy, N. Y.; has two children - Hallie H., born Dec. 11, 1872, and Lula M., born Feb. 4, 1876.
