George GOODING, farmer; P. O. Wilmington; was born in Ontario Co., N. Y., Oct. 18, 1802, and is the son of George and N. (WILDER) GOODING; father was a farmer, and was a soldier of the war of 1812. Mr. GOODING was raised on his father's farm, and remained East until 1856; he had obtained while in his native State a fortune, but going the securities of others he failed; he then, in 1856, came West with a borrowed capital invested in the present farm; first purchased 280 acres of land, at $20 per acre; here he set out farming and stock-raising; has been very successful; today owns 900 acres of fine improved land. He married Jan. 25, 1826, to Miss Achsah REED, born in Hartland, Conn., July 31, 1801; six children.
