Simon HOHENSTEIN, farmer and stock-raiser; P. O. Mokena; was born in Germany Sept. 17, 1837; came to the United States in 1853, and to this State, and settled in this county in the same year. His farm consists of eighty-five acres, valued at $6,000. He was married to Charlotte KNAPP, who was born in Germany; they have had seven children, six of whom are living, viz., Simon, Charley, Daniel, Conrad, Charlotte and Peter; deceased, Charlotte J. Mr. H. is at present holding the office of Assessor; he has held office of Collector in Greengarden one year, and one year in Frankfort Twp.
