Joliet; born in Cumberland Co., Penn., July 12, 1819, where he worked at the cooper's trade for several years, when he moved to Ohio, and worked at his trade until he moved to Joliet in 1846, where he followed his trade until he purchased the farm where he now resides; owns 136 acres of land, valued at $55 to $60 per acre. He married Miss Susanna SHOFFNER, a native of Ohio; they have six children - Albert, born March 1, 1849; Levi, June 16, 1852; Jesse, Sept. 9, 1856, died Nov. 5, 1857; John W., born March 16, 1859; Armina, Oct. 2, 1863; Lillie A., Feb. 11, 1861. Mr. MAPPS has filled the offices of School Director and Trustee in his township several terms.
