Charles MCCOWAN, farmer, Sec. 7; P. O. Channahon; the subject of this sketch was born in New York, Sept. 28, 1832; he married Miss Myra NEWTON, Jan. 1, 1854; she died in 1861; they had two children, one living, viz., Carrie; his present wife was Miss Lenna CURTIS; they were married March 17, 1865; they had four children, one living, viz., Roy; he lived in New York about three years, then came to this county, with his parents, who settled in this township; he came to his present place about 1857, and has lived on same since; he has been Poormaster and School Trustee; he was considerably in debt on starting, and now owns sixty-five acres in this township. His father, Peter MCCOWAN (deceased), was born in Edinburgh, Scotland; he married Miss Isabelle TARRANT; she was born in England; they were among, the first settlers of this township; both have since died.
