John MEAD, retired, Elwood; the subject of this sketch was born in Saratoga Co, N. Y., Aug. 
15, 1798; he married Mrs. Betsy CAGWELL, formerly Miss LUCE; she died April 11, 1866; they 
had two children - not living; his present wife was Miss Nancy COX; they were married April 
23, 1867; no children. He lived in New York seventeen years, and then went to Pennsylvania, 
where he remained until 1855, when he came West to Illinois, and settled in Will Co, and 
engaged in farming; in 1875, he sold his farm, and removed to the village of Elwood, and 
has lived here since.
