JAMES W. MOONEY, farmer, Sec. 32; P. O. Lockport; was born in Ulster Co., N. Y., Nov. 6, 1815, where he was engaged in farming, except four years, when he clerked in a grocery store; he came to this county in 1848, and first settled in Homer Twp.; in 1861 he moved, into Lockport Twp. and after remaining sixteen years, returned to Homer Twp, and for two years was engaged in boating on the Illinois & Michigan Canal, and now resides with his sons, John H. and Charles W., who work the Garden Farm in this township. Was Township Assessor and Highway Overseer in Lockport Twp. Married Lydia Ann BURT (daughter of Harlow and Hannah BURT, of Wayne Co., N. Y.) in Wayne Co., N. Y., Dec. 31, 1836; had eleven children - Jane M., born Aug. 16, 1839; Julia A., May 1, 1841; Francis, born Aug. 30, 1842, died Aug. 26, 1843; Charity, born Feb. 3, 1844; died March 4, 1849; Mary, born April 14, 1846; Helen, Aug. 24, 1847; John Henry, Dec. 30, 1849; Harriet Francelia, March 17, 1851; Lydia Josephine, Sept. 11, 1853; William Burt, April 7, 1855, died May 4, 1856, and Charles Wesley, born July 7, 1857.
