Samuel G. NELSON, farmer, Sec. 3; P. O. Wallingford; owns 105 acres; born in Winchester, Randolph Co., Ind., May 8, 1827; resided in that State with his parents until 1846; then to this town the 25th of December, 1846. Married twice; first to Abigail MEACHAM, who died Aug. 29, 1854, aged 24; left one child - Elizabeth H., born in September, 1853; she now lives with her father; is a school teacher; his second marriage was with Sarah A. THOMAS May 1, 1856; have had six children - Celia Jane, born July 1, 1857; William T., born May 21, 1859, died Aug. 24, 1873, from injuries received from the kick of a horse; Sarah Ellen, Oct. 28, 1861; Mary M., born Oct. 8, 1866; James M., Jan. 1, 1872; Laura B., Nov. 29, 1875. Enlisted in August 1862, in the 100th I. V. I., as private; elected First Lieutenant at the organization of the regiment, August, 1862; promoted to Captain Nov. 21, 1863, and to Major March 24, 1865; served fall term; in all the principal battles in which his regiment was engaged, including Stone River, Missionary Ridge, Atlanta campaign and Franklin; was badly wounded at Missionary Ridge, in the left hip; carried the ball three days; it was extracted, and he now has it in his possession. Held the office of Supervisor five years, which office he now holds; has held the office of Justice of the Peace about seven years.
