Charles PETTIGREW, master mechanic,Joliet; was born in New Lanark, Scotland, Feb. 4, 1844; in 1862, he went to his trade, in the Scotland Street Iron Works, at Glasgow; here he served an apprenticeship of five years; in May, 1867, he emigrated to America, first settliing in Chicago, where he was employed as machinist in the Excelsior Iron Works; in 1870, he came to Joliet, and was employed as machinist two years; next, he was foreman in the machine shops eighteen months; in August, 1873, he took his present position, that of master mechanic in the Joliet Steel and Iron Works. He was married in 1868, to Agnes CAMERON, a native of New Lanark, Scotland; they have three daughters - Edith S., Agnes M., and Clara B.
