John PETTIGREW, foreman of the molding department, Joliet; was born in New Lanark, Scotland, March 2, 1842 ; at the age of 17 years, be went to his trade, in Glasgow, working under instructions seven years; Sept. 12, 1866, he emigrated to America, first settling in Chicago, where he labored for Carlisle, Mason & Co., for a period of five years; in May, 1871, he came to Joliet, and entered the employ of the Joliet Iron and Steel Co.; during the latter part of 1873 and the first part of 1874, he worked at Marseilles and Rockford, and, on the reopening of the Joliet works, in October, 1874, he returned, and was employed as foreman in the molding department - his present position. He was married in 1864 to Agnes ROBERTSON, a native of New Lanark, Scotland ; has six children - John, Jane, Thomas, Charles, Agnes and William.
