Abner ROYCE, farmer; P. O. Naperville; was born in Essex Co., N. Y., June 13, 1826; he is a son of Jonathan and Polly (EMERY) ROYCE; his father was one of the early settlers of Du Page Twp., having settled in the summer of 1835 where his son now lives; here he lived till the date of his decease, which occurred Dec. 14, 1863, at the age of 83 years; his faithful companion followed him April 25, 1875, at the advanced age of 91 years; his father was a very successful business man, and owned at one time between three and four thousand acres of land; he divided his vast accumulations of wealth among his children, and they are following in his footsteps to a successful life; Abner has always lived upon the old homestead, except a temporary absence of four years; in 1850, he went to California, and engaged in mining; in 1854, he returned home. He was married October 18, 1855, to Charlotte PHELPS, a native of Essex Co., N. Y.; has six children - Elisha, Truman, Helen J., Irving, Lottie E. and Abner, Jr. Owns 985 acres in Will Co., valued at $65,000; Mr. ROYCE has met with good success in all his undertakings.
