August SCHIFFER, general merchant and grain-buyer, Monee; one of our early settlers; was born in Germany; came to the United States in 1855, and to this State in 1857, and, in 1858, he settled in the township of Monee; his pursuits, since his residence in the township, have been that of a general merchant and dealer in grain; he is the builder and owner of the first elevator in this township. He has held the office of Postmaster from 1861 to 1866. He was married to Miss Anna SCHURZ; they have six children, viz., August, Antoinette, Charles, Otto, Annie and Minnie.
