F. SCHROEDER, dealer in general merchandise, Peotone; born in Holstein, Germany, Nov. 24, 1834, where he lived and followed blacksmithing until the age of 21, when he emigrated to America, landing in New York May 9, 1856; then coming directly West, he located in Elmhurst, Du Page Co., IL, where he worked at his trade one year, when he removed to Monee, Will Co., and run a blacksmith-shop of his own for a period of eight years; then selling out, he lived upon his farm five months, when he removed to Peotone, and purchased a blacksmith-shop, but sold out soon after on account of ill health; he then engaged in general merchandise with F. RATHJE, which business he still continues under the firm name of SCHROEDER, SMITH & COLLINS; he is also, with Mr. COLLINS, largely engaged in buying and shipping grain, owning what is known as the COLLINS & SCHROEDER Elevator. He married Aug. 30, 1857, Elizabeth CONRAD; she was born in Odenbach, Bavaria, Germany; they are the parents of seven children living, viz., Fredrick, Henry, William, August, Carrie, Ida and Elizabeth. Mr. SCHROEDER now holds the office of Town Trustee, and is serving his second term as School Director.
