Shreffler Biographies

Daniel Shreffler
(1793-1860)

Daniel was born in Centra Co., Penn. The 5th child of Henry Shreffler. He was a "Weaver of Cloth" by trade, but also a preacher and an inventer. He married Catharine Dauberman in 1814, moved to Will County in 1842. Daniel and Catherine's children were Leah (1815-1861), John D. (1817-?), Catherine J. (1819-?), Andrew Hefner (1826-1896), and Rebecca (1829-?).


Samuel Shreffler
(1805-1890)

Samuel was born in Penn., the 3rd oldest of 13 children of John Henry and Mary Shreffler. Samuel purchased Government Land in Lawrence Co., IL in 1840. He moved to Will Co., in abt 1843, settled at Zarley's Point, where he operated a brick yard. He is credited with building the plank road between Plainfield and Joliet.

Samuel and Mary had 10 children. Mary Ann, John, Levi, Aaron, Samuel, Elizabeth, Hannah, Christiana, Malinda, and David.


John Shreffler

John was born in Centre Co., Penn. The 4th child of John Henry and Mary Shreffler. He married Elizabeth Dundom, 1833 in Ohio. Later, moved to Lawrence Co., IL. About 1845 moved to Will county.
