P. SHUTTS, of the firm of Zarley & Co., publishers of the Joliet Signal, Joliet; was born in Ulster Co., N. Y. Oct. 7, 1849;. when he was about 6 years of age, he accompanied his parents to Columbia Co., N. Y., when they spent a year in preparation for their departure for the West; in 1855, they came to Will Co., and settled about two and a half miles southeast of Joliet; Mr. Shutts received an English education in the old Babylon stone schoolhouse, and in the fall of 1872, entered the Signal office to learn the printer's trade. He became one of the proprietors in March, 1876.
