William B. SMALL, lumber merchant, Wilmington; was born in Hancock County, Ohio, February 24, 1851, and is the son of Daniel and Sophronia (HALL) SMALL; came West in 1851; commenced the lumber business with his brother E. D. SMALL, known as E. D. Small & Co., in Wilmington, June 17, 1872; here they met with good success; they then started a lumber-yard in Jersey City, Custer Twp., 1876; then a lumberyard at Smith's Landing; these gentlemen are the largest lumber merchants on the Kankakee River; buy their lumber by the cargo at Chicago; own one of the best steamers on the Kankakee River used in transferring lumber from Chicago to their lumber-yards at Wilmington, Jersey City, and Smith's Landing; their prices in lumber are the cheapest in any part of the State. Mr. SMALL married Sept. 17, 1873, to Miss Addie WARNER, of Illinois; they have two children.
