Joseph S. STEPHEN, Notary Public, collector and conveyancer, Frankfort Station; one of our early and active settlers; was born in Scotland June 10, 1841; came to the United States in 1843. He has been a resident of Will Co. for the past thirty-four years. Since his residence in Frankfort, which commenced in 1847, his business has been, at first, that of a farmer boy, receiving a liberal education. He, at the age of 31, entered into the grain business, also, at about the same time, he was elected Justice of the Peace; he, retained the position four years. As a participant in the late war, he served in the 20th and 134th IL. V. I. three years and six months. He was married to Miss Helen MITCHELL July 3, 1866.
