Crete; was born in Germany June 8, 1821, and is the son of Henry and Christina TATGE; his father was a farmer, and, in 1851, with his wife and family, emigrated to America, and landed in New York City; came direct to Illinois, and settled in Cook Co.; here his father and mother both died. Mr. TATGE's father gave him $2,000; he then came to Will Co., and purchased 320 acres of land, for which he paid $1,120; here he set out in farming; he first built a small frame house on the present farm; here, with good management, he owns 560 acres of land, with fine improvements. Married Catherine OLENDORF, daughter of Conrad OLENDORF, of Germany, who settled in Indiana; have had eleven children; six living. Member of the Lutheran Church.
