THOMPSON, manufacturer of carriages and farm-wagons, Wilmington; born in Wigtonshire, Scotland, Oct. 20, 1820; came to this country with his father's family in 1834, settling in Oneida Co., N. Y.; in 1850, be removed to Illinois, locating in Wilmington, his present home, and four years later engaged in his present business, in which be has continued since. Owns eighty acres of land in this county, valued at $1,500; eighty acres in Minnesota, valued at $1,000, and city property valued at $10,000. Married in 1847 to Miss Ellen WRIGHT, who was born in England; she died in 1853; three children by this union, one living - James W. John C. died in 1849; Samuel in 1853. Was again married in 1856 to Miss Helen, daughter of H. D. RISLEY; she was born in Salina, Onondaga Co., N. Y.; five children by this union, four living - Ellen E., Jesse D., Frederick W., Helen J.
