Grim Reaper Was Busy Last Year -Old Settlers Learn That Many Have Given Up Battle. – The Necrological Report – Largest Number of Deaths Last Year Since Association Was Formed – Ranks of Venerable Pioneers Are Thinning Out – List of Deaths. –

The old settlers’ reunion, which is being held in Joliet today is largely attended by the venerable pioneers from all sections of the county.

There are many vacant chairs this year, however, as the grim reaper has gathered more than twice as many in the past year as in any previous year since the organization was founded.

The following necrological report was read by W. W. STEVENS:

Mr. President and Members of the Association:

My report to you of the year just closed is a lengthy one, much more so than any that have preceded it. The grim reaper, Death, has been very busy in our ranks since last we met, and gathered a bountiful harvest, especially among the older of the early settlers of the

county. The number of deaths here recorded is more than double what it was six years ago, when I made my first report to you, while the number of deaths of those who came to the county sixty or more years ago is four times greater than it was then and the ages of those who have died the past year have increased accordingly.

There was one death that occurred last year that I did not learn of until after I had made my report.

Isaac H. KENNEY died at Waverly, Iowa, May 13, 1901, at the age of 78 years. He was a resident of Joliet at the breaking out of the civil war, and enlisted in Co. E, of the 100th regiment, and made a good soldier until ill health compelled his return again to private life.
