1911 Necrologist Report

Pioneers Who Died During Year

A death report, read annually by W. W. Stevens, Necrologist of the Will County Pioneers’ association, is one of the features of the annual business gathering. The following report covering deaths during the year among the county’s pioneers, as presented at the meeting of the “old timers” yesterday:

Mrs. Jane Montooth REED,

Wife of George W. REED, one of the earliest pioneers of Will County, who

came to Reed’s Grove in Jackson, in (illegible, possibly 1840), died at her home in Bradford, Stark Co., Illinois, September 13th, 1910, aged 75 years. She was born in Philadelphia, June 18th, 1835.

Augustus S. ALDERMAN,

One of the best known and most prominent of the old residents of Dupage Township, died at his home in Lemont on Sunday, October 9th, last (1910), at the age of 75 years. He was born in the town of Stonybrook, Canada, March 4th, 1835, and came to Will County with his parents, the late George W. (ALDERMAN) and Adeline Sharp Alderman, in 1841. They settled on a farm on Dupage Township, and for nearly 70 years that was his home. His marriage with Miss Eleanor WELCH occurred March 14th, 1871, and she survives him. Mr. Alderman was of the class that has been truly termed the noblest work of God, “An honest man.”

John J. LICHTENWALTER,

Of Elwood, died at his home there October 20th, 1910, at the age of 82 years. He was born in Stark County, Ohio, August 29th, 1829, and came to Elwood in 1868, since which time he has been one of the village’s most prominent citizens and business men. He was married to Miss Mary SHULL, February 24th, 1853, and she survives him.

Frank STATES, Sr.,

Of Channahon, died at the home of his son, Walter (STATES), near Wilmington, on Saturday, October 22nd, last (1910), aged 75 years. He was born in Baden, Germany, March 13th, 1835, and when but a boy he came to this country with his father. He settled in Channahon in 1861, and that was thereafter his home. Mr. States married Mrs. Sarah LOWE in 1865 and she survives him. He joined this Association in 1902.

Mrs. Sarah PARKS,

Widow of the late Wm. PARKS, of Joliet, died at her home on Exchange street, October 23rd (1910), aged 82 years. She came here in 1865.

William LAMBE,

Who died in Chicago, October 28th, last (1910), was an old resident of Homer. He was born in County Tyrone, Ireland, September 20th, 1820, and came to Homer in 1867, that being his home until some ten years ago, when he removed to Chicago.

Enoch P. SMITH,

Of Wilmington, was born in Marshfield, Vermont, January 27th 1835. He came to Will County with his parents, October 8th, 1840, and this county has since been his home. He was married to Miss Julia A. WARNER, August 12th, 1855, and she survives him. Mr. Smith enlisted in Company A, of the 100th Illinois Volunteer Infantry Regiment, in the Civil War, and was a most gallant soldier. His death occurred on Sunday, October 30th, last (1910).

Mrs. Margaret WALSH,

Of Spencer, died November 7th, last (1910), aged 84 years. She was a native of Ireland, but came to this country in 1851, where she was married to James WALSH, who survives her. They removed to Joliet that same year. In 1855 the removed to New Lenox, and that has since been their home.

Mrs. Adeline O’BRIEN,

Widow of the late Thomas O’BRIEN, of Joliet, died at her home on Collins Street, November 10th, last (1910), at the age of 78 years. She was born in Salon, Courtland County, New York, July 10th, 1832, and came to Joliet in 1847, and here has since been her residence. Mr. O’Brein died December 24th, 1898.

James WALSH,

An old resident of the County, died at St. Joseph’s hospital, Monday, November 14th (1910), at the age of 78 years. He was born in Ireland in 1832, but came to New York in 1849. A few years later, he removed to Joliet and that has since been his homer. His wife who has been his worthy companion for more than 50 years, died but a week previous.

Harry B. HUMPHERY,

A native and life long resident of Joliet, died at his home on the Manhattan Road, south east of the city, Monday, November 14th (1910), aged 46 years. He was born in Joliet, May 4th, 1864. He was the younger son of the late Horace (HUMPHERY) and Lucinda HUMPHERY, who came to the city in 1854.

Nelson WEED,

Who died at his home in Mankato, Minnesota, November 18th, 1910, at thw age of 61 years, was born in Rochester, New York, January 25th, 1849, and came to Joliet with his mother in 1865, and this was his home until some 20 years ago, when he removed to Minn. October 29th, 1879, Mr. Weed married Miss Anna RICE, of Sturges, Michigan, and she with five children survive him.

Mrs. Lydia A. CULVER,

Widow of the late John J. CULVER, an old resident of Joliet, died at her residence on Buell Ave., on Friday, November 18th, last (1910), at the age of 79 years. She had lived in Will County 53 years. Mr. Culver died in 1883.

Gotthard FREEHAUF,

Of Lockport, died at his home there November 30th (1810), aged 75 years. He was born in Germany, March 5th, 1835, and came to Lockport in 1854. He enlisted as a soldier in the Civil War, and performed a gallant service, having participated in seventeen battles.

Mrs. Almira TUTTLE,

One of the oldest residents of the County, died at her home in Wilmington, on Thursday, December 1st, last (1910), at the age of ninety years. She was a native of New York where she was born April 10th, 1820. She came to this County in 1849, and this has since been her residence.

Mrs. Abbie L. STAFFORD,

Was born in Dupage Township, August 2nd, 1862, and died in her home in Joliet, December 2nd, last (1910), aged 84 years. She was the wife of William F. STAFFORD, and had always lived in this County.

Mrs. Henrietta SASSE,

Widow of the late Frederick SASSE, of Elwood, died at her home there, December 2nd (1910), aged 85 years. She was born in Germany, April 13th, 1824. April 15th, 1881, she was married to Mr. Sasse, and they came to this County that same year. Mr. Sasse died October 9th, 1902.

Mrs. Mary BUSS,

Widow of the late Edward BUSS, of Elwood, died at her home there Sunday evening, December 4th (1910), aged 69 years. She had been a resident there for 43 years. Mr. Buss died February 12th, 1909.

Simon REITZ,

An old resident of Wilton Township, died in Joliet, December 5th (1910), aged 70 years. He was a native of Germany, but came to Wilton in 1862, and that was his home until seven years ago, when he removed to Joliet.

Mrs. Marie SCHULTZ,

An old resident of Monee, died in Peotone, December 9th, last (1910), aged 76 years. She was born in Hanover, Germany, October 30th, 1834, and came to this County in 1858. She was the widow of the late Wm. SCHULTZ, who died in Monee, March 6th, 1892.

Mrs. Sarah Jane THOMAS.

Widow of the late Dr. Granville S. THOMAS, of Chicago, died in that City, December 13th, last (1910), aged 74 years. She came with her husband to Joliet, in 1857, and this was her home for many years.

Mrs. Lois Caroline PAYFAIR,

One of the oldest residents of Homer, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. B. F. INGERSOLL, on Thursday, December 15th, last (1910), at the age of 71 years. Mrs. Payfair was born in Deerfield, Mass., March 9th, 1839, and came to this County with her parents in 1845. She was married to the late Lewis Payfair, in Joliet, May 3rd, 1858.

Miss Sarah E. HEMPHILL,

Of Jackson, died at her home there, December 17th, last (1910), aged 77 years. She was the daughter of the late James HEMPHILL, of that town, who died in 1863. She was born in Fountain County, Ohio, June 19th, 1833, and came to Jackson with her father’s family when but a child of five years.

Miss Catherine BURDEN,

Died at Silver Cross Hospital, Saturday, December 17th, at the age of nearly 88 years. She was born in County Perthshire, Scotland, January 11th, 1823, and came to Will County in 1850. “Aunt Kate,” as she was known to all, was greatly beloved and respected by all who knew her.

Thomas MILLER,

An old Veteran of the 100th Illinois Volunteer Infantry Regiment in the Civil War, died in Chicago, Tuesday, December 20th (1910), aged 68 years. He was a resident of Wilmington nearly 50 years.

Mrs. Beulah T. KEYES,

Died at her home on Mound Street, in Joliet, December 24th, last (1910), aged 71 years. She was born in the Township of Troy, in __________, 1839, and had always lived in the County. She was the widow of the late John KEYES, who died November 19th, 1906. Mrs. Keyes was one of the oldest members of the Association, having joined it in 1885.

Mrs. Susan C. HENRY,

Widow of the late William E. HENRY, a former well known resident of Joliet, died in Lebanon, N. J., January 1st (1911), at the age of 77 years. She was married to Mr. Henry in 1856, and they removed to Joliet in 1864, this being her home for many years. Mr. Henry died March 3rd, 1900.

Adam BAIN,

Of Peotone, died there January 2nd (1911), aged 76 years. He was born in Houston, Scotland, May 16th, 1834, and came to Will County in 1856, and here has been his home for the most of the time since that date.

Franklin COLLINS,

A resident of Will County since 1833, died at his home in Joliet, on Wednesday, January 4th (1911), age 80 years. Mr. Collins was born in Rochester, N. Y., April 19th, 1830, and came to the County three years later with his parents. He was married to Miss Frances A. POOR, January 29th, 1851, and she survives him.

John E. BISHOP,

A veteran of the Civil War, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Frank RAUSCH, in Plainfield, on Thursday, January 5th (1911), aged nearly 73 years. He was born in Clark County, Illinois, January11th, 1838, and had been a resident of Plainfield since his discharge in 1864. March 3rd, 1870, he was married to Miss Cynthia A. DAY.

Patrick DELANEY,

An old and well known resident of New Lenox, died in Joliet, January 5th (1911), aged 68 years. He was a native of Ireland, but came to Will County with his parents in 1850, and this has since been his home. He was married 46 years ago to Miss Annie SHIELDS and she survives him.

Obadiah HICKS,

One of the older and prominent members of the Association, died while on a visit with his daughter, Mrs. A. E. GREEN, in Morgan Park, Ill., January 6th (1911), aged 81 years. He was born in St. Agnes, one of the Scilly Islands, off Lands End, England, June 1st, 1829, and came to Will County in 1858, and this has since been his home. Mrs. Hicks died November 3rd, 1896.

Walter H. ROWLEY,

A native of Homer Township, died at his home there, Saturday morning, January 7th (1911), aged 50 years. He was a son of the late Alfred G. ROWLEY, who died September 7th, 1887. Mr. Rowley had always lived in his native town.

Mrs. Lydia H. ROWLEY,

One of the pioneer women of Homer Township, died Saturday, January 7th (1911), at the age of 86 years. She was a native of the State of New York, but came to Homer with her father, the late Asa LANFEAR, in 1835, and that was thereafter her home. Mrs. Rowley was the widow of the late Alfred G. ROWLEY, who died September 7th, 1887.

Dennis E. COOPER,

Of Crete, died at his home there on Saturday, January 7th, last (1911), aged 70 years. He was born in Monee, March 6th, 1840, and had always lived in the County. Mr. Cooper married Ivy DeJARNETT, October 25th, 1898, and she survives him.

Mrs. Sarah Brown SHARP,

Died at Silver Cross Hospital, January 10th (1911), aged 62 years. She was the daughter of the late Ara BROWN, of Jackson, and was born in that town, and that was her home until her marriage to Geo. W. SHARP, of Danville, Indiana, July 18th, 1882.

J. L. DAHLEM,

An old and well-known resident of Joliet, died at his home on Illinois Street, January 13th, last (1911), aged 72 years.

Charles Henry CARPENTER,

A native of the County, died in Edgewater, near Chicago, January 14th, last (1911), aged 50 years. He was born August 30th, 1860, and Joliet was his home until a few years ago. Mr. Carpenter was married to Miss Carrie E. ASHLEY, March 9th, 1886, and she survives him.

James RYAN,

One of the oldest residents of Joliet, died at the St. Joseph’s Hospital, January 15th (1911), aged 80 years. He had been a resident of the city since 1850.

Robert ROBINSON,

Of Joliet, an old resident of Wilton, died at his home on Union Street, in Joliet, on Sunday, January 15th, last (1911), aged 68 years. He was a native of England, but came top this County with his parents when but ten years of age. Mr. Robinson was wedded to Miss Mary PLANT, February 22d, 1865, and she survives him.

David PADEN, Sr.,

Of Braidwood, died at his home there, Tuesday, January 17th (1911), aged 78 years. He was born in Campbelltown, Scotland, October 31st, 1832, and came to Braidwood when a young man. He was a veteran of the Civil War, being a member of Company D, 11th Illinois Volunteer Infantry Regiment.

Mrs. Jane Wheat STAFFORD,

Of Dupage Township, died at her home there Wednesday, January 18th (1911), at the age of 68 years. She was the wife of Enoch STAFFORD, an old and most worthy citizen of that Township, and had lived in that Township more than 50 years.

Jesse O. WHITED,

A resident of Joliet since 1852, died at the Silver Cross Hospital, here, Wednesday, January 18th, aged 65 years. He was born in Little Falls, New York, October 14th, 1845, and came to Joliet with his parents when seven years old.

Mrs. Jane ROBBINS,

Widow of the late Ira Robbins, of Wilton Township, died in Kankakee, January19th (1911), at the age of 75 years. She was born in Wilmington, May 16th, 1835, but had spent most of her life in Wilton. Mr. Robbins died March 14th, 1903, aged 71 years.

John WOODS,

One of the oldest members of the Association, having joined in 1882, died at his home on Union Street, in Joliet, January 20th, last (1911), at the age of 74 years. He was born in Mercer County, Pa., December 11, 1836, and came to the State with his parents in 1845. August 6th, 1863, Mr. Woods married Miss Jennie M. DUNN, of Springfield, Ill., and she survives him.

Mrs. Mary Ann DAY,

One of the oldest residents of Lockport, died at her home West of Town, January 21st (1911), aged 95 years. She was born in Troy, New York, in 1816, and was married there to the late John W. DAY, in 1838, and soon after they removed to Lockport, which was thereafter their home. Mr. Day died November 3rd, 1886, aged 76 years.

Enoch STAFFORD,

An old resident of Dupage Township, died at his home there January 25th (1911), aged 82 years. He was born in Edmonton, England, February 23rd, 1829, and came to Dupage in 1850. Soon after settling there he married Miss Jane WHEAT, and that town was thereafter their home. Mrs. Stafford died one week previous to her husband.

Chauncy Harvey RICE,

Was born in Mentz, N. Y., Sept. 3rd, 1823, and came to Illinois in 1849, and settled in Waukegan where he resided many years. He came to Joliet some 20 years ago where his death occurred January 25th, last (1911), aged 87 years.

William M. RICH, M. D.,

Was born in Fontana, N. Y., Sept. 16th, 1829, and came to Will County in 1864, settling in Elwood where he was a successful physician for many years. He passed away at his home in Clements, Kansas, January 27th, last (1911), aged 81 years.

S. Marcelin WELLS,

A native of Lockport, died in Lenora, Kansas, January 27th (1911), aged 64 years. He was a member of the Third Illinois Cavalry in the Civil War, and received an honorable discharge. He married Miss Eunice F. HAUSER in 1873, and she survives him.

Mrs. Agnes M. SPANGLER,

Widow of the late E. L. SPANGLER, of Joliet, died in Chicago January 30th (1911), while on a visit with her daughter there, Mrs. Otto ROSSMAN, at the age of 72 years. She came to Joliet some fifty years ago, and this has since been her home. Mr. Spangler died November 15th, 1881.

Mrs. Emma BADGER,

A native of Crete, died at the Silver Cross Hospital, Tuesday, January 31st (1911), aged 51 years. She was born in Crete, December 27th, 1859, and had always lived in the County. She married David BADGER, January 24th, 1882, and he with nine children survive her.

Anton WAGNER,

A resident of Joliet for more than fifty years, died at his home here January 31st (1911), aged 76 years. He was born in Germany, May 31st, 1834 and came to Joliet with his parents when quite young.

Abraham S. BROWN,

An old resident of Lockport, died at his home there, February 4th (1911), at the age of 80 years. He was born in Lancaster, Pa., May 18th, 1831, and came to Will County with his parents in 1849, settling in Wheatland, but a few years later he removed to Lockport, and that has since been his home. October 27th, 1853, he married Miss Susan SNYDER, she dying Sept. 6th, 1908.

Harman R. BURLINGAME,

Of Joliet, died at his home on North Eastern Ave., on Sunday, February 5th (1911), aged 82 years. He was born in Vermont, August 11th, 1828, and came to the County 55 years ago. June 17th, 1850, he married Miss Olive C. AMES, and she survives him.

Mrs. Eliza GURNEY,

Of Joliet, died at her home on Union Street, Sunday February 5th (1911), aged 73 years. She was born in Liverpool, England, April 1st, 1837, and came to the County 58 years ago. She was the widow of the late George F. GURNEY, to whom she was married February 26th, 1857. Mr. Gurney died December 26th, 1909. They were old residents of the town of Jackson.

John H. PULVER,

One of the oldest pioneers of Eastern Will County, died at his home in Crete, on Monday, February 6th (1911), aged 84 years. He had been a resident there for 65 years.

Mrs. Eleanor WOOD,

Wife of George B. WOOD, an old resident of Green Garden Township, died at Lunenburg, Mass., February 18th (1911), at the age of 69 years. She was a sister of Edgar C. HUTSON of this city. Mrs. Wood was united in marriage to Mr. Wood in Green Garden, in 1857.

Gotleib Franz KITZEROW,

An old resident of New Lenox, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George BURMEISTER, in Welcome, Minn., February 18th (1911), aged nearly 78 years. He was born in Germany, March 6th, 1833, and came to Will County in December 1852, and here has been his home until a few years ago. He did valient service inm the Civil War, serving in Company F, 64th Regiment, Illinois Volunteer Infantry.

Mrs. Sophia Lippincott KNOWLTON,

Widow of the late Henry C. KNOWLTON, of Joliet, died March 1st (1911), aged 66 years. She was born in Wilkesbarre, Pennsylvania, and came to Joliet in 1870. Mr. Knowlton died August 1st, 1906.

Mrs. Bridget PRESTON,

Widow of the late Thomas PRESTON, of Joliet, died at her home here on Sunday, March 5th (1911), aged 73 years. She had been a resident of the City for nearly fifty years.

Daniel LANTZ,

An old resident of Wheatland, died Saturday, March 11th (1911), at the age of 80 years. He was born in Erie County, Pennsylvania, in 1831, and came to Wheatland in 1860.

Mrs. Susan SIEVERT,

A resident of Joliet for 58 years, died at her home on Hickory Street, on Sunday, March 12th (1911), at the age of 63 years. She was the widow of the late Vincent SIEVERT, who died some ten years ago.

Thomas MARTIN,

An old resident of Channahon, died at his home there Wednesday, March 15th (1911), aged 63 years. He came to the County 58 years ago.

Michael RAPPEL,

An old resident of Will County, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John KELP, in Joliet, on Wednesday, March 15th (1911), at the age of 77 years. He was born in the Province of Alsace, France, August 25th, 1833. He married Miss Antoinette DRENDEL, of the sane province, September 4th, 1853, she dying March 6th, 1907.

Charles COPPS,

An old resident of Wilmington, died at the hospital in Kankakee, Thursday, March 16th (1911), aged nearly 93 years. He had been a resident there for nearly half a century. He was born in Holland, March 18th, 1818.

Caleb J. JONES,

An old resident of New Lenox, died at his home there March 22nd (1911), at the age of 76 years. He had been a resident of the town for half a century.

Mrs. Harriet A. TAYLOR,

Widow of the late Henry TAYLOR, of Joliet, died March 22nd (1911), aged 82 years. She was born in Coventry, England, September 27th, 1828, and came to Joliet in 1857. Mr. Taylor died February 19th, 1905.

Miss Amelia H. VERLEY,

Died at her home on Richard(s) Street, in Joliet, Thursday morning, March 23rd (1911), at the age of 76 years. She was born in Liverpool, England December 3rd, 1834, and came to Joliet in 1858.

Mrs. Sophia C. HARSHBARGER,

One of the older members of this Association, having joined it in 1885, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frank GASKIN, in Plainfield, on Thursday, March 23rd (1911), aged 74 years. She was the widow of the late Geo. H. HARSHBARGER, who died March 16th, 1908, and had lived in Plainfield nearly 50 years.

Andrew ANDERSON,

An old and respected resident of Wesley Township, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. MARTINSON, in that town, March 25th (1911), aged 92 years.

Mrs. Mary A. DE LONG,

Widow of the late Francis DE LONG, and a resident of Will County since 1857, died at the home of her brother, Louis SHIFFER, in Plainfield, Tuesday, March 28th (1911), at the age of 73 years. She was married to Mr. DeLong in Plainfield, January 19th, 1858, he dying some 14 years ago.

Mrs. Ann L. SINGLETON,

A resident of Wilmington Township for 52 years, died at her home near Lorengo (Lorenzo), Saturday, April 1st (1911), aged 78 years. She was a native of Lincolnshire, England but came to this country quite young. She was married to Thomas SINGLETON, March 4th, 1858, and he survives her.

James COLLINS,

Of Joliet, died at his home on West Monroe Street, Sunday, April 2nd (1911), at the age of nearly 86 years. He has been a resident of the County since 1852. He was born in Scotland, May 1st, 1825.

Luebbe ALBERS,

One of Monee’s oldest residents, died at his home there on Friday, April 7th (1911), aged nearly 84 years. He had lived in the County nearly fifty years.

Elon G. WILLIAMS,

A resident of Joliet for more than forty years, died at his home on Oneida Street, on Sunday, April 9th (1911), aged 74 years. He was born in Erie County, Pa., March 26th, 1837, and was married to Miss Jane E. STRICKLAND, December 16th, 1871, she surviving him.

Mrs. Amelia A. CANN,

Wife of John CANN, of Peotone, died at her home there on Tuesday, April 11th (1911), at the age of 55 years. She was born in New York City, July 31st, 1854, and the year following she was brought by her parents to Will County, and this has since been her home. She married Mr. Cann August 21st, 1872, and he with eleven children survive her.

Mrs. Sophia ENGLEKING,

Wife of Phillip ENGLEKING, an old resident of Crete, died at her home there April 18th (1911), at the age of 77 years. She was born in Germany, March 29th, 1834, and came to the County 64 years ago.

Mrs. Mary Shreffler CRONMILLER,

Wife of John CRONMILLER, an old resident of Joliet, died at her home on South Richards Street, on Thursday, April 20th, at the age of 72 years. She was born in Reading, Pa., 1838, and was married to Mr. Cronmiller, January 7th, 1863, he survives her.

Edward HILLS,

A resident of the County since 1852, died in Wilmington, April 21st (1911), at the age of 73 years. He was a native of Florence. (Township?)

Nancy E. AUGUSTINE,

Wife of John AUGUSTINE, of Wilmington, died in Joliet, April 23rd (1911), aged 59 years. She had lived in the County since 1861.

Peter EICH,

A resident of the County for 54 years, died at St. Joseph’s Hospital, in Joliet, on Monday, April 24th (1911), aged 77 years. He was a native of Hamburg, Germany.

Mrs. Agnes Palmer PATTERSON

Widow of the late Thomas PATTERSON, of Wheatland, died there Tuesday, April 25th (1911), at the age of 83 years. She was born in Manchester, England, April 2nd, 1828, and came to Will County in 1858. Mr. Patterson died in 1878.

Mrs. Harriet L. HODGDON,

Widow of the late L. M. HODGDON, of Joliet, died in Joliet, Saturday, April 29th (1911), aged 46 years. She was a native of Joliet and had lived here all her life. Mr. Hodgdon, died in 1902.

Michael WAGNER,

Of Joliet, died April 28th (1911), at the age of 84 years. He was a native of Germany, where he was born August 14th, 1826, and came to Joliet 62 years ago.

Mrs. Ann Walsh CARROLL,

A native of Manhattan, died there April 29th (1911), at the age of 56 years. She was the widow of the late James CARROLL, of Spencer, and was born September 15th, 1854.

Gustav LEOPOLD,

A resident of Will County since 1853, passed away at his home in Joliet, at the age of 65 years. He was a native of Germany.

Miss Hattie STANLEY,

A native of Joliet, died Wednesday, May 3rd (1911), aged 49 years. She was the daughter of the late Francis G. (STANLEY) and Barbara Monroe STANLEY, and was born in the house where she died.

Henry SEITZ,

An old resident of Beecher, died Thursday, May 4th (1911), aged 87 years. He was born in Hanover, Germany, and came to Beecher in 1860.

Mrs. Julia BLASER,

Widow of the late Louis BLASER, of Joliet, died at St. Joseph’s Hospital, in Joliet, on Saturday, May 6th (1911), at the age of 82 years. She was a native of Germany and came to Will County nearly fifty years ago. Mr. Blaser died December 22nd, 1900.

Mrs. Carrie C. YOUNG,

Died Saturday, May 13th (1911), aged 52 years. She was the wife of Edward H. YOUNG, of Joliet, and was born in this City, April 7th, 1859.

Mrs. Catherine BARRY,

A resident of Joliet since 1851, died May 15th, last (1911), aged 84 years. Deceased was the widow of the late Edward Barry, who died here in 1878.

Captain Andrew EMERY,

Of Lockport, passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital, in Joliet, May 17th (1911), aged 79 years. He was born in Maine, January 9th, 1832, and came to Lockport when quite young. He was a veteran of the Civil War, having enlisted in the Lockport Artillery Company.

William P. BARKER,

An old resident of Florence Township, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Maritz, HANSEN, in Elwood, on Friday, May 26th (1911), aged 73 years. He was born in Adrian, Michigan, November 11th, 1837, and came with his parents to Will County in 1849, they settling at Starr’s Grove.

Mrs. Miriam S. RAUWORTH,

An old resident of Peotone, died at her home there June 17th (1911), at the age of 65 years. She was born September 4th, 1845, in Sheffield, England, and came to Will County with her parents in 1857. She was married to William RAUWORTH, January 1st, 1867, and he survives her.

Henry MILLER,

A resident of Lockport since 1850, died at his home there July 1st (1911), aged 73 years. He was a native of Germany and came with his parents at the age of thirteen to the place that was thereafter his home. He married Miss Mary SCHOTT, August 8th, 1861, and she survives him.

Mrs. Millie Ann PFLEGER,

A resident of Joliet for 59 years, died Saturday, July 1st (1911), aged 83 years. She was a native of Alsace, Germany. She was the wife of Alois PFLEGER, who survives her.

James D. FRAZIER,

An old member of the Association, died at his home in Homer, Sunday, July 2nd (1911), at the age of 89 years. He was born in Pittsford, New York, October 5th, 1821, and came to the County in 1849. In 1857, he married Miss Mary LANE, and she survives him.

Theodore DOWNEY,

A resident of Joliet since 1850, died Thursday, July 6th (1911), aged 79 years. He was born in Canada and came to Joliet in 1850.

Mrs. Magdolina WONDERLICH (WUNDERLICH),

A resident of Joliet for 68 years, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Joseph GRABER, on North Broadway, July 6th (1911), aged 74 years. She was born in Germany, but came here with her parents in 1843.

Mrs. Barbara PATTON,

Widow of the late Andrew Patton, of Peotone, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. G. W. BARTON, in that village, Friday, July 7th (1911), at the age of 87 years.

Myron J. BACKUS,

An old resident of Lockport, died July 9th (1911), aged 63 years. He was born in Albion, N. Y., August 19th, 1848, and at the age of ten years came to Lockport with his parents, and that was thereafter his home. He was a veteran of the Civil War.

Mrs. Achsah Wheeler WOODRUFF,

Widow of the late Geo. H. WOODRUFF, and a resident of Joliet for 55 years, died at her home on North Broadway, July 9th (1911), at the age of 87 years. She was born in Marlboro, Mass., April 10th, 1824, and came to Joliet in 1856. Mr. Woodruff died November 1st, 1890.

Miss Florence STRONG,

A daughter of the late W. A. STRIONG, of Joliet, died near Graysville, Tennessee, July 15th (1911), at the age of 46 years. She was a native of Joliet.

Mrs. Ann M. DOIG,

Widow of the late Thomas Doig, of New Lenox, died in that town, Wednesday, July 19th (1911), at the age of 90 years. She was born in Columbia Township, New York, November 17th, 1820, and was married to Mr. Doig May 5th, 1854. Mr. Doig died April 19th, 1909.

William H. NORTON,

A resident of the County for 67 years, died at his home in Jackson Township, July 18th (1911), at the age of 86 years. He was born in Ithica, N. Y., February 2nd, 1825, and came to Plainfield in 1844, but some years later removed to Jackson. He married Miss Eliza GOODENOUGH in 1857, and she survives him.

John T. DONAHOE,

A native of Joliet, who was born here in _____ 1855, and had always lived in the County. He was a son of Timothy (DONAHOE) and Mary DONAHOE, who came to the County from Ireland in 1850. Mr. Donahoe married Miss Mary E. DYER in 1876, and she with five children survive him. He was a brother of Edward DONAHOE, of Wilmington, an old member of this Association. His death occurred July 19th (1911).

Dennis DALTON,

Of Troy Township, died July 27th (1911), aged 79 years. He was a native of Ireland, but came to the County in 1850. In 1856 he was married to Miss Mary CLIFFIN, she survives him.

Isiah A. CLIPPINGER,

One of Plainfield’s oldest and most respected citizens, died there July 28th (1911), at the age of 84 years. He was a native of Green Castle, Pennsylvania, where he was born October 5th, 1826, and came to Plainfield in 1860. December 24th, 1863, he married Miss Clara PRATT, and she survives him.

John CONLIN,

A resident of Joliet for 54 years, died July 28th (1911), aged 62 years. He was a native of New York.

George W. CROPSEY,

A pioneer of Joliet, died July 31st (1911), aged 90 years. He was born February 28th, 1821, in Palmyra, New York, and came to Will County in 1844.

John THOMPSON,

A native of Wheatland Township, died at the home of his sister in Cherokee, Iowa, July 31st (1911). He was born in Wheatland, August 23rd, 1854.

James BARTON,

Of Peotone, died at his home there August 3rd (1911),at the age of 82 years. He was born in England, but came to the County in 1850. His wife was Miss Emma Robinson, to whom he was married February 22nd, 1865. She survives him.

Samuel GATONS,

An old resident of Troy Township, died at his home in Joliet, on Sunday, August 6th (1911), at the age of 70 years. He was born in New York, April 9th, 1841, and was brought to the County by his parents when but three years old.

Mrs. Sophia PETERS,

Of Frankfort died August 9th (1911), at the age of 67 years. She had lived in Frankfort for 50 years.

Henry SASS,

Of New Lenox, died August 10th (1911), aged 69 years. He was a native of Germany and came to New Lenox 42 years ago, and that has since been his home. He was married to Miss Lizzie HARMS in 1871, and she survives him.

Adam COMSTOCK,

An old member of the Association, and a resident of Joliet for 75 years, died at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Wm. SANDIFORD, on South Broadway, Wednesday, August 16th (1911), aged nearly 84 years. He was born September 17th, 1827, in Hector, N. Y., and came with his parents to Joliet in 1836.

Catherine BRADFORD,

A resident of the County for 71 years, died at her home on North Broadway, in Joliet, Thursday, August 17th (1911), at the age of 74 years. She was the widow of the late Chauncy BRADFORD, of Joliet, who died January 30th 1908.

Mrs. Anna REICHMAN,

A resident of Joliet since 1868, passed away at her home on South Richards Street, August 22nd (1911). She was the widow of the late Joseph REICHMAN, who died October 10th, 1910.

Addison P. LOOMIS,

A resident of Peotone for 58 years, died Tuesday, August 22nd (1911), at the age of 82 years. He was born October 5th, 1828, and came west in 1853.

Simeon WOODRUFF,

An old resident of Joliet, and a veteran of the Civil War, died at his home on Winston Ave., on Wednesday, August 23rd (1911), aged 77 years. He was born in Watertown, N. Y., October 21st, 1833, and came to Joliet with his parents in 1845.

Alex. VAN ALLEN,

Of Joliet, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John KELTIE, near the Mound (Mound Joliet, north of Illinois Route 6, on the west side of Larkin Ave. – L. B. Peet), on Tuesday, August 29th (1911), at the age of 76 years. He had been a resident of the County for some fifty years.

Nelson BELLWARD,

A citizen of Manhattan for nearly 50 years, died at his home there Tuesday, August 29th (1911), aged 62 years. He was a native of St. Louis, where he was born March 30th, 1849, and came to Manhattan with his parents in 1860. He married Miss Cecelia SHIFFORD, August 31st, 1873, and she survives him.

Mrs. Mary BURSON,

Died at her home in Oregon, on Sunday, September 3rd, (1911), at the great age of 91 years. She was formerly a well known resident of Joliet, coming here with her parents in 1832, and this was her home for many years. Her husband, Nathan C. BURSON, whom she married December 16th, 1855, still survives her at the age of 95 years.

Anthony J. SCHEIDT,

A native of Joliet, died Tuesday, September 5th (1911), aged 54 years. He was born November 22nd, 1856, and had always lived in the City.

William L. VANDENBERG,

A resident of Joliet since 1860, died at his home on Fifth Ave., Tuesday, September 5th (1911), at the age of 79 years. He was born in Preble, New York, October 8th, 1832.

Xavier MUNCH,

A veteran of the Mexican War, and a resident of Joliet for more than 70 years, died Thursday, September 7th, (1911), aged 88 years. He was born in Alsace, France, July 31st, 1823, and came to Joliet in October 1839.

Mrs. Hannah A. DAVISON,

An old resident of Joliet Township, died at her home two miles East of the City, on Saturday, September 9th, (1911), aged 74 years. She was the wife of George DAVISON, and was born in Brookfield, Vt., in 1837.

Mrs. Mary E. GOODENOW,

Widow of the late Stephen GOODENOW, of Crete, died at Garfield, Nebraska, September 9th (1911), at the age of 83 years. She was born in Celery, New York, April 28th, 1828, and came to Will County in 1862. Mr. Goodenow died at Garfield June 29th, 1888.

William Wallace KEEN,

A native of Joliet, passed away at his home in Council Bluffs, Iowa, on Tuesday, September 12th (1911), at the age of 62 years. He was born in Joliet in April 1849. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. James C. KEEN, of Plainfield, and a veteran of the Civil War, at the close of which he removed West, and that has since been his home.

Mrs. Ellen C. FIDDYMENT,

Of Lockport, died at her home there Saturday, September 23rd (1911), at the age of 68 years. She was the widow of the late Walter J. FIDDYMENT, who died July 14th, 1905, and was born in Joliet, June 19th, 1843.

Adelbert D. PRESTON,

Of Homer, a well known member of this Association, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. William EGGERS, west of Lockport, on Saturday, September 23rd, (1911). He was a veteran of the Civil War, being a member of Company G, First Illinois Artillery.

Gen. Joseph Smith REYNOLDS,

A native of New Lenox, died Sunday, September 24th (1911), at Santa Barbara, Cal., aged 71 years. He was born December 3rd, 1839, and New Lenox was his home until after the close of the Civil War, of which he was a veteran.

Daniel P. HENDRICKS,

An old well known citizen of Joliet, died at his home in Chicago, on Thursday, September 28th (1911), aged 72 years. He was born in Syracuse, N. Y., March 31st, 1839, and came to Joliet with his parents when but two years old and this was his home for nearly fifty years.
