Work of Reaper Among Pioneers Unusually Heavy — Report of Necrologist, Wm. A. Baldwin, Made to Old Settlers’ Association Today, Records Death of 227 Citizens —

During the year from October 1, 1914, until October 1, this year, the ranks of the pioneers of Will county have been visibly thinned. Last year there was recorded the passing of 114 persons from within and outside the membership of the Will County Pioneers’ association. This year the number is 227.

To the younger generation these pioneers have, in their lifetime, offered examples of integrity and stability that have given character to the community life of Will county. To these, and to those who remain, there is due the respect and the warm appreciation of everyone.

Following is as near a complete list as was available of the old settlers called to their eternal reward:

Oct. 1, 1914 – Mrs. John HOHMAN, Peotone, aged 90 years. She leaves a grown family.

Oct. 2, 1914 – Mrs. John STAMM, Homer, aged 74 years. She leaves a husband and six children.

Oct. 3, 1914 – Albert HERATH, 1217 North Broadway, aged 65 years. He leaves a widow, one brother and a sister.

Oct. 5, 1914 – Mrs. Rachael PINNEO, Joliet, aged 52 years. A husband and five children survive.(nee Rachael Ettie LINEBARGER – L. B. Peet)

Oct. 7, 1914 – Archibald McQUEEN, Florence, aged 72 years. He was a native of Scotland. A grown family survives.

Oct. 8, 1914 – Mrs. Catherine HICKS, 600 Scott street, aged 70 years. She was a pioneer of Joliet.

Oct. 12, 1914 – Mary E. R. FULLER, oldest daughter of the late Judge S. W. RANDALL, at 424 Linden avenue, Joliet.

Oct. 11, 1914 – Ed. SANDIFORD, 306 Richmond street, Joliet.

Oct. 12, 1914 – Thomas J. KELLY, oldest merchant in Joliet, and three times mayor of Joliet, aged 74 years. He came to Joliet in 1848.

Oct. 12, 1914 – Andrew O’CONNOR, 71 years, at Lockport. He leaves a widow and five children.

Oct. 13, 1914 – James HADDOW, of Joliet, aged 74 years. He was for thirty years a keeper of the Illinois state penitentiary.

Oct. 14, 1914 – Mrs. C. E. MATTESON, at Long Beach, California, a former resident of Joliet.

Oct. 15, 1914 – Mrs. Julia LICHTENWALTER, aged 72 years, at her home, 306 Union street, Joliet.

Oct. 18, 1914 – Robert J. MORRISON, a native of Canada and a civil war veteran, aged 74 years. He was many times assessor of Joliet township.

Oct. 18, 1914 – John H. MORRISON, a veteran of the civil war, aged 72 years. He was a resident of Joliet since retiring from his farm.

Oct. 17, 1914 – Mrs. Theresa McCLOSKEY, aged 76 years, of Wilton. She was a native of Ireland.

Oct. 17, 1914 – Mrs. Augusta OBST, Lockport, aged 91 years. She had been fifty years a resident of Lockport.

Oct. 20, 1914 – Judge A. O. MARSHALL, aged 76 years, at 107 North Center street. He was a former Judge of the circuit court, member of the city school board of Joliet and a civil war veteran.

Oct. 21, 1914 – Byron FREY, aged 65 years, at Lockport. He leaves three sisters.

Oct. 23, 1914 – Mrs. Sarah GREENWOOD, wife of Aaron GREENWOOD, prominent church worker at Manhattan, aged 74. Years. She leaves a husband and two children.

Oct. 23, 1914 – John WEBB of Joliet, oldest mill man, aged 64 years.

Oct. 23, 1914 – Mrs. Margaret J. NOLAN, wife of J. K. NOLAN, 111 South Eastern avenue, Joliet. She was a native of Ireland.

Oct. 28, 1914 – H. M. LYFORD, aged 70 years, at his home in Chicago. He was a former clothing salesman of Joliet.

Oct. 29, 1914 – Mrs. Eliza FOLEY, 618 Clinton street, Joliet.

Nov. 2, 1914 – Mrs. Martha JOHNSON, Wilmington, wife of William JOHNSON.

Nov. 9, 1914 – Mrs. Augusta HANK, Lockport, aged 81 years. She leaves a husband and two daughters.

Nov. 10, 1914 – Louis TOEPPER, aged 72 years, at Monee. He was a resident of Will county for forty years.

Nov. 14, 1914 – Catherine BINZEN, widow of the late Michael BINZEN, of Joliet.

Nov. 18, 1914 – Ben F. EKLUND, 605 Wilcox street, aged 65 years. He was one of the first Swedish residents of Joliet.

Nov. 20, 1914 – William LICHTENWALTER, aged 83 years, at 309 Union street. He was a former resident of Manhattan.

Nov. 28, 1914 – Mrs. Susan BENN, once of Wilton, at Clay Center, Kansas, aged 61 years.

Nov. 28, 1914 – Miss Oranda PAGE, aged 84 years, at New Lenox. She was a member of a pioneer family.

Nov. 29, 1914 – William D. PALMER, prominent in Democratic politics, and a Joliet farmer, aged 65 years. He came to Jackson in 1857.

Dec. 1, 1914 – Mrs. Mary SMITH, widow of the late John SMITH of Manhattan, aged 80 years. She was closely associated with Jackson affairs fifty years ago.

Dec. 2, 1914 – Mrs. Harriet Beebe BROWN, of Plainfield, aged 76 years. She came from Orleans county, New York, to Walker’s Grove in 1859.

Dec. 2, 1914 – Mrs. Cynthia TERHUNE, former resident of Joliet, at her home in Pasadena, California.

Dec. 8, 1914 – Mrs. Christina SENGENBERGER, wife of George SENGENBERGER, 800 North Hickory street, Joliet, aged 74 years.

Dec. 7, 1914 – John C. LANG, probate clerk, Will county, and a civil war veteran, at his home, 400 Mississippi avenue, Joliet.

Dec. 8, 1914 – Mrs. Elizabeth HAMLIN, 205 Bridge street, Joliet.

Dec. 9, 1914 – Alois PFLEGER, 1117 North Hickory street, aged 81 years. He had been a resident of Joliet since 1848.

Jan. 5, 1915 – Mrs. Mary SHIRE, a resident of Joliet for 65 years, died at the age of 71 years.

Jan. 8, 1915 – Mrs. Lewis K. STEVENS, nee PRATT, was a prominent church worker of Joliet.

Jan. 9, 1915 – Mrs. Lucy HAWES, of DuPage, aged 64 years.

Jan. 9, 1915 – Romaine J. STODDARD, at his home in Chicago, aged 52 years. He was once associated with the late Frank HAVILAND in the livery business in Joliet.

Jan. 13, 1915 – Lewis LINEBARGER, of Kent, Iowa, aged 75 years.

Jan. 13, 1915 – J. J. WALZ, former New Lenox farmer, at his home in Ridgewood, Joliet. He came to Will county in 1856.

Jan. 14, 1915 – Capt. W. H. MITCHELL, civil war veteran, at his home in Wilmington, after a long illness.

Jan. 15, 1915 – P. H. WAGNER, at Danville (Illinois), at the age of 79 years. He was a civil war veteran and a former resident of Manhattan.

Jan. 21, 1915 – B. F. BYERS, aged 73 years, at 653 East Jefferson street, Joliet. He was a pioneer shop worker of Joliet.

Jan. 22, 1915 – William FOUND, native of England, aged 88 years. He came to Plainfield in 1852 and in later years lived in Joliet.

Jan. 23, 1915 – H. W. COPE, former alderman of the Fifth ward, Joliet, aged 71 years.

Jan. 23, 1915 – Owen KANGLEY, brother of the late Bernard KANGLEY, died in Morris. He was at one time a resident of Wilmington.

Jan. 30, 1915 – Mrs. Helen ZARLEY, wife of the late William H. ZARLEY, aged 75 years. She was the daughter of the late Jacob PATRICK, pioneer of Will county, and died in Joliet.

Feb. 5, 1915 – Horace L. MESSENGER, of Homer, aged 70 years. He was a livestock breeder and a veteran of the civil war.

Feb. 7, 1915 – Mat MATTES, of New Lenox, aged 79 years. He was one of the early farmers of New Lenox.

Feb. 11, 1915 – Mrs. John J. KELLY, aged 70 years, at 409 Collins street, Joliet.

Feb. 14, 1915 – Mrs. Annie GIFFORD, 215 Iowa avenue, aged 64 years.

Feb. 15, 1915 – John C. FRISBIE, born in Joliet in 1853, died at Silver Creek, Illinois.

Feb. 16, 1915 – Christian McDONALD, aged 80 years, at Danville. He was a veteran of the civil war.

Feb. 19, 1915 – James W. NORTON, agerd 77 years, at his home, 216 Youngs Avenue, Joliet.

Oct. 20, 1915 – Calneh BAILEY, aged 65 years, at his home in Channahon. He was a member of one of the oldest families in this section. (Oct 20 is the date given.
