Francis F EASIB, a resident of Monee, died Monday, Nov 29, at St Francis Hospital and Health Center, Blue Island. An 11am funeral service will be conducted today at Fedde-Helfrich Chapel, Peotone, with the Rev Dr Robert Hurst officiating. Interment will be in Skyline Memorial Park, Monee. Mr EASON was born 4 Nov 1915 in Manhattan. He was retired as a boltmaker with 35 years of service from International Harvester of West Pullman, a member of St Pauls United Church of Christ, Monee; a past trustee for the Village of Monee; and a 20-year member of the Monee Fire Department. He is survived by his wife of 59(?) years, Viola (nee RAB); a daughter, Mellody (Gerald) FIFER of New Lenox; a son, Duane of Elgin; a sister, Dorothy TOROK or Plymouth; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to St Pauls United Church of Christ, Monee.

Anna Marie Elizabeth EATON

Anna Marie Elizabeth Eaton, aged eight months, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Eaton, 1317 North Clement street, died at the family residence yesterday afternoon at 5 o’clock. Besides her parents she leaves four brothers John, Joseph, William and Walter. The funeral will be held from the home tomorrow afternoon at 2 p. m. Rev. Erwin THOMPSON, pastor of the Grace Methodist Episcopal church will officiate. The interment will be in Oakwood cemetery.

Daniel Joseph, Sr. EATON

“Daniel EATON Answers Summons(headline) One of Foremost Citizens of Jackson Township Passes Away-Had lived On Old Homestead Since 1862-Funeral Sunday. Daniel EATON, Sr., one of the oldest and most respected residents of Jackson township, passed away last evening, at 7:35 o’clock, after a comparatively short illness. Mr. EATON’s parents were born in Scotland, but moved to the North of Ireland, where they settled and raised a family of five sons, Daniel was born in Craighy Warren, County Antrim, Ireland, Sept. 26 1828 and at the age of 22 he was married to to Miss Mary MCLINTOCK. Seven years after their marriage they moved to this country, settling first in Kendall county in this state. In 1862 they moved to the present homestead in Jackson township where they have resided ever since. Ten children were born to this union and of these five survive-Daniel EATON, Jr., of this city, Robert EATON, Mrs George EIB and Mrs Anna JACOBSEN of Jackson township, and Mrs Mary RALF of Cedar Falls, Iowa. Besides his widow and these five children there is one brother, Matthew, living in Ireland, another brother, John, living in Joliet, eighteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Daniel EATON was one of Nature’s noblemen, kind hearted, honest and industrious, who honesty was never doubted, who was kind and considerate to others, who was always ready to say a kind word for and lend a helping hand to anyone in trouble. He was intensely fond of his home and home life and was not a rich man, as the world views riches, was well enough off to permit of his spending his latter years in peace and happiness and leaving ample provision for his life’s companion, who stood by his side through the long years of their happy wedded life, sharing the joys and sorrows that come to all and did so much to smooth over the rough places they encountered during their long journey together. Mr. EATON was a loyal member of the Central Presbyterian church of Joliet, and was a conscientious Christian, carrying his religion into all of the acts of his daily life. Funeral services will be held on Sunday afternoon, at 1:30 o’clock at the old home, Rev. Robt. YOST, Pastor of the Central Presbyterian church officiating and the internment will be made in Brown Cemetery. The family particularly requests that friends will please omit flowers.”

Born in Jackson township, resident of Elwood most of his life, where he retired from farming. Preceded in death by his parents Louis and Caroline nee HOHENSTEIN; four brothers, Harold, Edmund, Walter, and Lewis EBERT; and sisters-in-law, Velma BARTON Ebert, Dorothy HOGER Ebert, Lois LORENZEN EBERT and Lois WEITENDORF EBERT. Roy was born June 3, 1924 in Joliet, IL. He was a lifelong resident of Mokena, IL and a lifelong member of St. Peter United Church of Christ in Frankfort, IL. Roy was a former thirty-three year employee of Wyman Gordon Co. and sixteen year employee of Frankfort Township Road District. Roy also loved his family and home dearly. She was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Frankfort and St. Peter’s Women’s Fellowship. She also belonged to Royal Neighbors of America, Ladies Auxiliary of Frankfort Post #1493, Frankfort Senior Citizens, Will County Senior Citizen’s Hall of Fame and was a volunteer at the Valley View Nutrition Site Bingo. Survivors include her husband of over 50 years, Edward W. Services were held last week for Evelyn K EGDORF, 93, of Monee. Mrs EGDORF died 26 Dec 2000 at the Anchorage of Beecher. She was born 11 May 1907 in Monee. She was a homemaker, a member of St Pauls United Church of Christ in Monee, St Pauls Womens Guild, Eastern Will County Senior Services and Crete Upper Crust. Mrs EGDORF is survived by 2 sons, Warren (Joyce) EGDORF of Crete, and Virgil (Dolores) EGDORF of Blue Island; two daughters, Shirley YOUNG of Glenwood and Pearl KAMPE of Monee; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Laura PIKE of Peotone. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Edna HARMS EICKMANN; three brothers, Milton Eldon, and Eugene; and a sister, Valeria JANSSEN. Visitation for Wayne A. Eggert, 60, of Peotone, will be 3-8 p.m. today at Fedde-Helfrich Chapel in Peotone, where services will be at 11 a.m. Monday. Rev. William Riegle will officiate. Burial will be in Skyline Memorial Park in Monee. Pallbearers will be Douglas and Robert Eggert, John Stankus, Terry Urbanek, Allen Perlman and Ralph Heft. Memorials may be made to Peotone Boy Scout Troop 315 or the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Mr. Eggert died Friday, September 5, 2003, at his home. He was born Nov. 25, 1942 in Joliet, the son of Arthur C. and Linda Lehnert Eggert. His father is deceased. Surviving are his wife, the former Peggy Spaenhower, whom he married October 5, 1963 in Kankakee, of Peotone; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas and Cindy Eggert of Joliet, Robert and Roberta Eggert of Peotone; 3 grandchildren; and his mother of Peotone. One brother, Ralph Eggert, died in 2000. Mr. Eggert was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ in Peotone, committee member for Peotone Boy Scout Troop 315, and former unit commissioner for the Rainbow Council. He retired as Captain from the Peotone Fire Department after 29 years of service. He was a bulk unloader for Ecco Lab of Joliet.

“Uncle George” EIB Dead; Was A Pioneer Of Jackson – – – (Family Group Photo) George EIB, the oldest resident in Jackson township, died this mornibg at 4:30 o’clock at his home. He would have been 92 years of age on March 17, and was one of the patriarchs of the community, holding the esteem of a large circle of acquaintances throughout Will county. A widow, Mary Ann EIB, and six children are the immediate members of the family left to mourn his loss. The children are Peter and Mrs. Louisa ASH, of California; George J. W., at the Jackson farm; Jacob L., of Joliet; Mrs. George HIBNER, of Gardner, and Mrs. Mary O. SHELLY, of Nebraska. The funeral will be Monday at 1 p.m., from the house on the old farm to Trautman’s Grove.

Mrs. Jane EIB Dead – – – Jackson Woman Passes Away This Morning. Mrs. Jane Eib, relict of the late Augustus Eib, died this morning at the residence at Jackson Grove, in Jackson township. The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at 1 o’clock at the residence. The remains will be laid to rest in Troutman’s Grove cemetery. Mr. Eib passed away some two years ago.

Howard G. EISENBRANDT At rest December 11, 2003. He was born in Frankfort, IL on August 14, 1921 and graduated from Joliet Township High School in 1939. He completed two years at JuCo. In 1948, he married his best friend and devoted wife, Hattie Ann ROCKENBACH and moved to Plainfield. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alice and George EISENBRANDT. He leaves to cherish his memories, Hattie, his devoted wife of 55 years; and five proud children, Diane (Edwin) BAKER, of PA, Beryl (David) JOHNSON of MN, Gail (Philippe Spung) HARTLEY, Sylvia (Miguel) MARTON both of Joliet and Arlyn (Nola) EISENBRANDT of PA; as well as four special grandchildren, Ross and Brent BAKER and Emma and Ethan EISENBRANDT all of PA. Also surviving are two sisters, Dorothea EISENBRANDT and Jeanett SPENCER of Lockport; one brother, Glenn EISENBRANDT of WI and several nieces and nephews. He was a long time member of First Lutheran Church in Joliet, the Argonne Amateur Radio Club and the Men’s Club of First Lutheran Church. He enjoyed volunteering at Shepherd’s Table for years. He organized the Jolly Ramblers National Holiday Rambler Travel Trailer Club in 1968. He retired from Argonne National Lab in 1985 after 28 years of dedicated service. He enjoyed camping with his family, crossword puzzles, photography, riding motorcycles and model railroading. Harry ELLENWOOD

The funeral services of Harry ELLENWOOD were conducted Monday afternoon at the Presbyterian church by Rev. LOUX, assisted by Rev. RUSH of the Methodist church. Funeral was attended by a large circle of sorrowing friends and a heartfelt sympathy for the bereaved ones goes out from the many hearts today who had the privilege of his friendship. He was gentle, kind, and loving, because of his sweet disposition. “None knew him but to love him.” Many beautiful floral designs were sent by friends of the departed. He was a member of the White Cross society, who took part in paying the last respects to a departed brother. The pall-bearers were: Garland BLATT, Claire BREEN, Burnett BRIDGE, Mat RYAN, Erving BOVEE and Edward PETERSON.

Harry ELLWOOD, who had been a sufferer with heart trouble for some time was taken suddenly worse on last Monday and died on Saturday, July 25, aged 20 years. The funeral was held on Monday at the Presbyterian church. Rev. LOUX, pastor preaching. A large crowd was in attendance.

Services were held Monday morning for Chester F ELY, 74, of Watseka. Mr ELY died 29 Nov 1996 at Manor Health Care in Urbana. He was born 4 Sept 1922, in Henry, to Ernest and Anna KLEIN ELY. He was employed by 30 years by the US Postal Service in Watseka. Mr ELY is survived by his wife, Norma BEHRENS ELY, whom he married on 7 June 1947, in Watseka; three sons, Douglas (Marianne) ELY of Fort Wayne IN, Michael (Diane) ELY of Bourbonnais, and Thomas (Pamela) ELY of Watseka; a daughter Janice (William) Skeen of Plainfield; ten grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a sister, Carole (Richard) REICHERT of Peotone; two brothers, Clifford (Jean)ELY of Seattle, WA and John (Betty) ELY of Pendleton, OR; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. A funeral mass was celebrated Dec 2 at St Edmunds CAtholic Church, where he was a member. The Rev Lee RYAN officiated. Interment will be in Manhattan Center Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Paul United Church of Christ or to St. Joseph School. Mr. Engelhardt was born Sept. 4, 1925 in Peotone, the son of Harry and Sophia Meisterling Engelhardt. Surviving are his wife of 49 years, the former Helen Schoop, of Manhattan; 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and David Palmer of Manhattan, Dawn and Michael Bierman of New Lenox; three grandchildren; and one sister, Ruth Gabriel of New Port Richey, Florida. Mr. Engelhardt was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater. He was past president and treasurer of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Manhattan. He served as secretary of the Manhattan Center Cemetery for 10 years and was past Commander of the Manhattan American Legion Post 935 for 10 terms. He retired from Commonwealth Edison after 32 years of service.

Fern ENGELHARDT

Services were held Wednesday morning for Fern L ENGELHARDT, 84, of Peotone. Mrs ENGELHARDT died 9 March 2002 at Manor Care Health Services in Kankakee. She was born 18 April 1917 in rural Peotone. She was a 60-year member of Immanual United Church of Christ in Peotone. Mrs ENGELHARDT is survived by her husband Lester ENGELHARDT, whom she married on 27 May 1939 in Peotone; a brother-in-law, Vernon ENGELHARDT of Peotone; six nieces and nephews, Melvin (Judy) MARSHALL and Louese WANNER, both of Manteno, Jerry (Ann) ENGELHARDT of Yorkville, Carol (Gene) LINDELL of Knoxville TX, Odette KOCH of Mt Sterling and Sharon (Jerome) MARTIN of Creal Springs. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Julia HAUERT MARSHALL; and a brother Lewis MARSHALL. The funeral was conducted March 13 at Fedde-Helfrich Chapel in Peotone. The Rev David Plant officiated. Burial was in Skyline Memorial Park in Monee. Pallbearers were Melvin MARSHALL, Calvin YOUNKER, Russell KLIPP, Jerry ENGELHARDT, Jerry BAKER, and Leo BOURG. Honorary pallbearers were Harold HEYERMAN, CLyde ENGELHARDT, William MARSHALL Sr, and Bruce CARSTENS.

Vernon ENGELHARDT

Vernon John Engelhardt, 89, of Peotone, died Monday, November 15, 2004, at the Joliet Area Community Hospice. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Thursday at the Fedde-Helfrich Chapel, Peotone, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday. Revs. Reinhold Heinrich and William Riegle will officiate. Burial will be in Peotone Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Matt and Luke Engelhardt, Mitch Hattan, Dave Powell, Andrew Janczylik and Bruce Carstens. Memorials may be made to the Peotone Paramedics or to Immanuel United Church of Christ. Mr. Engelhardt worked for Ford Motor Company from 1934-1944. He then worked as leader of the paint department at Cardox and Chemtron Corp. in Monee from 1944-1981. He was born October 2, 1915 on the family farm in Peotone, the son of John and Anna Marie Ginter Engelhardt. His wife, the former Elvira Hossbach, whom he married June 1, 1946 at St. Peter’s Evangelical Church in Frankfort, died in 2001. Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Anne Engelhardt of Yorkville; one brother, Lester Engelhardt of Peotone; and five grandchildren. Two sisters, Mildred (Alvin Sr.) Wanner and Irene (Walter) Nickel; and one sister-in-law, Ferne Engelhardt, are deceased. He was a 1933 graduate of Peotone High School. He was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ, Peotone, former member of the Board of Trustees, and former youth fellowship director with his wife. Mr. Engelhardt served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Peotone American Legion Post 392, past president of the Legion in 1956; and a member of the Steger VfW Post 8283. He was also a member of the Peotone Sportsmen’s Club, Bradley Moose, Eastern Will County Senior Services, Peotone Village Planning Commission and the Peotone Park Development Board. He enjoyed playing baseball and basketball in his youth and watching sports in his later years. He bowled until the age of 83. He and his wife loved to travel and watch their families participate in various sports and musical activities.

Ethel ENGLEMANN

Ethel Christina ENGLEMANN (nee BOGDA) Age 88, passed away Thursday, July 29, 2004 in Woodland, California. Ethel was born November 28, 1915 in Blue Island, IL to Richard and Kathi (FLASSIG) BOGDA. She was the second of eight children. She married Emanuel Counrad ENGELMANN on March 2, 1925 at the St. Peter’s Evangelical Church in Frankfort. They made their home there, where the Engelmann’s were early settlers arriving from Hanover, Germany in 1853. The Engelmann’s continue to be property owners in Frankfort today, Ethel will be buried from the new Kurtz Memorial Chapel which now occupies the land of the former Engelmann family home. Mrs. ENGELMANN was proud of the Germanic heritage that she shared with her husband and leaves behind a rich genealogy full of family history, pictures and historical documents. Ethel and Emanuel raised their four boys in Frankfort until relocating to Joliet in 1955. Ethel moved to Woodland, California in 1997 and had made her home at St. John’s Retirement Home for the last four years. She will be remembered by them for her rye wit and sharp memory. Lawrence ENGELMANN

Emergency measures taken in an effort to save the life of Lawrence (Larry) ENGELMANN, 15, of Frankfort, proved futile as the youth succumbed to poliomyelitis yesterday at Silver Cross hospital. Stricken with the dread disease last Wednesday evening at his home, the youth was moved to the Joliet hospital. At first it was believed that he was suffering with pneumonia. Later his illness was diagnosed as infantile paralysis, in a severe form. In an effort to save his life, a tracheotomy was performed on Friday. A portable respirator was rushed to the Joliet hospital from the Hinsdale sanatorium on Saturday. The tracheotomy which consists of an incision being made in the throat to permit the patient to breathe was performed as Larry began to have difficulty with his breathing because of mucous gathered in his throat. Dr. John CAREY of the Will County Polio Foundation, made arrangements for the respirator to be brought to Joliet. Born in Will county, the youth had lived his entire life here. He was graduated from the Frankfort grade school after which he was enrolled at JTHS. A sophomore in the Joliet high school, he was a member of the a cappella choir and was to have appeared in the choir’s annual Yule concert yesterday afternoon. Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Emanuel ENGELMANN; three brothers, Kenneth, Lester and Thomas, all of Frankfort. The funeral will be Tuesday afternoon. The body is at the Hirsch capel in Tinley park where friends may call after 2 o’clock this afternoon. At 1:30 on Tuesday afternoon, the body is to be taken to St. Peter’s Evangelical and Reform church at Frankfort where services will be at 2:30 o’clock. The Rev. Eric BIZER will officiate. burial will be in Pleasant Hill cemetery.

Jennie Porter ERICKSEN

ERICKSEN, Jennie PORTER age 91 years, of Rock Island, Illinois, April 22, 1975 at the Oak Glen Nursing Home, Cold Valley, Illinois. Born June 9, 1883 in Lemont, Illinois, had been a life long resident of the Will Co. area. Member of the Richard St. Methodist Church, The Kings Daughters, Past State President International Order of Kings Daughters and served on the board of the Cleveland Kings Daughter Home at Rock Island. Preceded in death by her first husband, Harry E. PORTER and her second husband, Walter J. ERICKSEN. Her parents, Milton and Jane BETTENHOUSE CLEVELAND, 2 sistrs, Grace E. ASPEL and Sophia M. DOIG. Survived by 1 son, J. Edwin PORTER, Tampa, Florida, a granddaughter Mrs. Sherman (Nancy Jane) WHITE, a grandson, Edwin J. PORTER, both of Tampa, Florida, 6 great grandchildren, a sister, Florence H. CLEVELAND of Joliet, nieces, nephews and cousins, Remains are at the Goodale Funeral Home where private services will be held Friday, April 25 with Rev. Willis Walker officiating. Interment Oakwood Cemetery. No visitation. Memorials to the CLEVELAND Home of the Kings Daughters, Rock Island will be appreciated.

Allen ERICKSON

Services were held Saturday morning for Allen Edwin ERICKSON, 83, of Monee. Mr ERICKSON died 11 July 2000, at St James Hospital, Chicago Heights, IL. He was born 27 Aug 1916 in Chicago. He was a retured truck driver, a member of the Austin Messiah Lutheran Church of Chicago and a past member of the Monee Fire Department. Mr ERICKSON is survived by his wife, Leona (HOLL) ERICKSON, whom he married 4 June 1944 in Monee; two sons, Dennis (Judy) ERICKSON of Chicago and Richard ERICKSON of Monee; one granddaughter, Hope ERICKSON of Oak Park; and one brother Walter (Ruth) ERICKSON of LaGrange Park. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Ellen (RUNDQUIST)ERICKSON, one sister and three brothers. Memorial services were conducted July 15 at Fedde-Helfrich Chapel, Peotone. The Rev Dr Robert Hurst officiated. Burial was in St Paul’s Cemetery, Monee. Memorials may be made to St Paul’s United Church of Christ, St Paul’s Cemetery or to the Monee Fire Department.

Leslie R ERICKSON

Leslie R. ERICKSON, 48, of 123 1/2 Independence Ave. died Monday (Dec. 15, 1969) at Silver Cross Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Osakis, Minn., he had lived in Joliet 30 years. Mr. ERICKSON was an Army veteran of World War II and was a guard at the J & R Security Service. He was a member of Harwood American Legion Post 5 and the Ingalls Park United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, the former Laura DRALLE; two daughters, Mrs. John (Evelyn) CHASE of Salem and Melody ERICKSON of Joliet; a sister, Mrs. Vivian RITCHIE of Osakis; and a grondson. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Carlson Funeral Home with the Rev. Edward E. Brewster officiating. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Greenview Cemetery at Manhattan.
