Visitation for Brad H. Haag, 51, of Peotone, will be from 3-9 p.m. Thursday at the Fedde-Helfrich Chapel, Peotone. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church of Park Forest, where he was a member. Pastor John Bost will officiate. Burial will be in Skyline Memorial Park, Monee. Pallbearers will be Larry, Jerry, Jeffrey, Alan and Marc Haag. Memorials may be made to PanCan (Pancreatic Cancer Research). He died Monday, October 7, 2005, at St. James Hospice, Chicago Heights. Mr. Haag was employed by the Illinois Department of Transportation. He was born Aug. 3, 1954, in Joliet, the son of Herbert and Marjorie Johnson Haag. Surviving are his wife, the former Debora Crepps, whom he married June 17, 1978 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Park Forest; one daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Timothy Donnelly of Manteno; and five brothers and sisters-in-law, Larry and Toni Haag, Jerry and Marcia Haag, all of Lincoln, Missouri, Jeffrey and Signa Haag, Alan and B.J. Haag and Marc and Debbie Haag, all of Peotone. His parents are deceased.

Marjorie HAAG

Services were held Monday morning for Marjorie A AVEY HAAG, 73, of Monee, formerly of Collum. Mrs HAAG died 13 March 2002 at South Suburban Hospital in Hazel Crest. She was born 2 March 1929 in Carroll IA. She was a homemaker and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Park Forest. Mrs HAAG is survived by six sons: Larry (Toni)HAAG of Lincoln MO; Jerry (Marcia) HAAG, Jeffrey (Signa)HAAG, Brad (Debbie) HAAG, Alan (BJ) HAAG and Marc (Debbie)HAAG, all of Peotone; 12 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchildren; and a brother Donald (Patricia) JOHNSON of Collum. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert HAAG, in 1966; her parents, Mino and Josephine BREIDERT JOHNSON; and a sister, Virginia DRENDEL. The funeral was conducted March 18 at Trinity LUtheran Church. Pastor John Bost officiated. Burial was in Skyline Memorial Park, Monee. Pallbearers were Larry HAAG, Jerry HAAG, JEffrey HAAG, Brad HAAG, Alan HAAG, and Marc HAAG. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association. Debra Rae HABERKORN

HABERKORN, Debra Rae nee BETTENHAUSEN. Age 30. Of Joliet. At rest peacefully. Monday, March 10, 1997 at Saint Joseph Medical Center after fighting a year long courageous battle with cancer. Debra was born Sep. 23, 1966 and is the daughter of Janet (John) BUELL and Kurt (Myrla) BETTENHAUSEN. She married John HABERKORNon October 10, 1987 and has a son, Kyle, age five. Debbie is a graduate of Joliet East High School, 1984. She was employed with the Will County Adult Probation Dept. for just over 11 years. Member of the Central Presbyterian Church of New Lenox. Debra was preceded in death by her grandparents, LaVern and Evelyn BETTENHAUSEN. She is survived by her loving husband, John and devoted son, Kyle. Also her parents, Janet (John) BUELL and Kurt (Myrla) BETTENHAUSEN; brother Jeff BETTENHAUSEN and sister, Lori (Mike) MUSSARIO; grandparents, Audrey and Gordon KOCH. In-laws, Leonard and Beverly HABERKORN. Brothers-in-law tom (Cathy) HABERKORN and Steve HABERKORN: sister-in-law, Lori (Mike) ARENDS. Wallace HACK

Wallace R. Hack, 79, of Peotone, died Monday, September 2, 2002, at Manorcare Healthcare Center in Kankakee. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Fedde-Helfrich Chapel, Peotone. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Immanuel United Church of Christ, Peotone, where he was a member. Rev. David Plant will officiate. Burial will be in the Peotone Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Clyde Love, Howard Asbrand, Lane Heatherwick, George Becker, Ron Artman, Mel Meinheit, Glenn Holmes and Virgil Holl. Memorials may be made to Immanuel United Church of Christ. Mr. Hack was a retired farmer. He was a former member of the church council, the Will County Fair Board and the Will County Farm Bureau. He was born March 18, 1923, in rural Peotone, the son of John C. and Blanche Apking Hack. Surviving are his wife, the former Betty Jane Bisping, whom he married December 10, 1944, in Peotone; one son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Barbara Hack of Augusta, Georgia.; one brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Marjorie Hack of Peotone; and one niece and one nephew. One son, Roger Hack, died in 1971. He was a member of the Kankakee Moose and the church dartball team.

Ruth HACKETT

Services were held Monday morning for Ruth H FEHLAND HACKETT of Monee. Mrs HACKETT died 16 Dec 1999 at her home. She was born 18 May 1916 in Monee. She had been employed as a postal clerk at the Monee Post Office for 20 years. She was an active member of St Boniface Church and a member of the Monee Women’s Club. Mrs HACKETT is survived by a daughter, Margaret THOMAS of Richton Park; two sons, Thomas (Nancy)HACKETT of Woodridge and James (Rochanne) HACKETT of Reno, NV; nine grandchildren; two sisters, Beatrice (Richard) SMULLEN of Monee and Lois (Jack) STEIN of Leesburg, FL; and two brothers, Allen (Geri) FEHLAND of Monee and Robert FEHLAND of Crete. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Parks HACKETT, in 1967; a son, John C HACKETT, in 1967; and three brothers, Ralph FEHLAND, 1998, Leonard FEHLAND in 1994, and Arthur FEHLAND in 1989. The funeral was held 20 Dec at St Boniface Church. The Rev Mark Menezes officiated. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Steger. Memorials may be made to St Boniface Church, 5304 W Main St, Monee IL, 60449. Arrangements were handled by Hirsch Funeral Homes Lincolnway Chapel in Matteson.

Alberta HAFELE

Alberta Lucille Hafele, 95, of Peotone, died Thursday, November 20, 2003 at the Anchorage of Beecher. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Saturday until the 2 p.m. services at the Fedde-Helfrich Chapel in Peotone. Rev. William Riegle will officiate. Burial will be in the Peotone Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Immanued United Church of Christ in Peotone, where she was a member. Ms. Hafele was retired from Mall Tool Company in Chicago Heights. She was born March 21, 1908, in Cannelton, Indiana, the daughter of Walter J. and Hannah M. Gottschalk Hafele. Surviving are 2 brothers, Robert W. Hafele of Chrisman, Harry Wilburn Hafele of Batavia, Ohio; 1 niece, Donna Chockley of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.; and 2 nephews, Robert Lane Hafele of Groveland and Richard E. Hafele of Portland, Oregon. One nephew, Larry Hafele, is deceased. She enjoyed her home and flowers.

Daniel HAITZ

Daniel Haitz, died this morning at St. Joseph’s hospital after a lingering illness. He had been connected with Duso & Collins for many years and was well known. The funeral will be held Saturday morning from St. Joseph’s hospital with services at St. John’s German Catholic church. The interment will be in the German Catholic cemetery.

Mary HALEY

Mary Haley Age 94, died Saturday, January 7, 2006 at her home in Wilton Township. She is survived by three daughters, Mary (Richard, deceased) McGowan of Manhattan, Joan (Don) Tulley of Wilmington and Sharon (Thomas, deceased) Erdman also of Wilmington; two sons, Thomas Haley of Manhattan and William Haley of Wilton Township; 18 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and three sisters-in-law, Mary (Thomas) Martin, Marie (Louis) Boseo and Mary (Martin) Haley. Preceded by her parents, Thomas and Rose McPartlin Martin; her husband, Francis Haley; a son, Frank Haley; and two brothers, Rev. Leo Martin, S.J. and Thomas Martin. Mary and Francis lived and farmed in the Wilton area for many years, dedicating themselves to their six children. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Church and Ccw in Wilton Center for 56 years. She was an avid pinochle and euchre player and loved to socialize over the card table. Timothy HALL

Sec. 2, p.6: A 16 year old Joliet boy died Friday night from injuries he suffered in a hit and run accident. Tim HALL, a student at Joliet Central High School, had been in critical condition at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood since the Nov. 30 accident. Police are still investigating the accident that occurred Nov. 30 in the 400 block of Blackhawk Street in the Ridgewood Area. Hall was a passenger in a car that was hit from behind by a blue Volkswagen Rabbit or Jetta. HALL and a friend got out to check the damage, and the car fled the scene. When the two youths tried to chase the car on foot, HALL was hit by a second car, a station wagon which was described as possibly being a brown 1972 to 1979 Ford LTD with a wood-grain or white painted side. HALL’S mother, Marla, called the Herald-News last week before her son’s death with a message to thank the people who gave the family support. She said employers, clergy, doctors and nurses, classmates and teachers had offered support during the family crisis.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Kankakee Valley or to the American Cancer Society. She died Tuesday, 26 Nov 2002, at Provena St Mary’s Hospital, Kankakee, after a short illness. Mrs HAMANN worked as a cook, waitress and caterer for several area restaurants and services. She was also a clerk for the Kankakee Sale Barn and worked as a supervisor for Elco Chemical in Park Forest South. She was born 31 Aug 1918 in Peotone, the daughter of Clarence and Grace YOUNKER CANN. Her husband, Orvel L HAMANN, whom she married 25 Oct 1936 at her home near Peotone, died in 1994. Surviving are two daughters and one son-in-law, Lou Ann ELDRIDGE of Bradley, Judy and Mike MEYER of Chebanse; one son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Sue HAMANN of Peotone; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and three great- great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Ferne CANN of Peotone; and one niece and five nephews. One sister, Ruth KNIPPLE, and one brother, Clyde CANN, are deceased. She was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ, Peotone. Mrs HAMANN volunteered at the Eastern WIll County Senior Services at Monee and coordinated their bingo program on Sundays. She was a charter member of the Momence Chapter of the Antique Automobile Club of America; and a member of the Prairie Cardinals Camping Club and the Historical Society of Greater Peotone.

Howard Henry HANDORF The farming community of Will County, IL. lost one of their members Monday, January 20, 2003. Age 74. Passed away at Tucson Medical Center in Tucson, AZ. Howard was born may 14, 1928 in New Lenox, IL. Farmed in New Lenox, IL. until the age of 71. Retired to Tucson, AZ. in April of 2000. He was an active member of 4-H as a youth. Served as a member of the New Lenox School board. Was a life long Farm Bureau member. Survived by his best friend & very loving, caring wife of 55 years, Geraldine F. (MILLER) HANDORF. IL. Friday Nov. 8, 1889. Obituary of Otis HARDY. Sketch of a busy and useful life-a city in mourning. Death came to the honored and beloved subject of this sketch Thursday morning Nov. 7, 1889. The event has caused profound sorrow throughout the city. For over a half of a century he has been identified with the growth of the city. Starting when this place was a mere malet. His benevolent impulses were remarkable. The church and kindred work, the poor, the sick or those in distress never appealed to Otis Hardy in vain, yet his success grew and he died a wealthly man. He was born near Windsor, Vermont, September 23, 1810. In March 1813 his parents and eight young children found their way to Marietta, Ohio. Allan HARMS

Allan H. Harms, 75, of Sun Lakes, Arizona since 1999, formerly of Peotone, died Sunday May 19, 2002 at the Carl T. Hayden Veterans Administration Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona after a lenghty illness. Visitation will be from 3-8 pm Saturday with an 8 pm walk-through by fire department personnel from several departments at the Fedde-Helfrich Chapel in Peotone. Services will be at 1 pm Sunday at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Peotone where he was a member. Rev. David Plant will officiate. Burial will be in Peotone Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Young, Henry Sallee, Lanny Russell, Russell Klipp, Robert Robbins and Judson McDougall. He was born December 7, 1926 in Peotone, the son of Alvin and Amanda Brunner Harms. His wife, the former Donna J. Ryan, whom he married on February 12, 1959 at Immanuel United Church of Christ, died February 25, 1982. Surviving are 1 son, Todd (Katie) Harms of Phoenix, Arizona; 2 daughters, Toni (Gary)Younker of Frankfort; and Tamy (Ed) Eng of West Bloomfield, Michigan; 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; 1 sister, Alva Lee Ruge of Lexington, Ohio. An infant brother, Russell is deceased. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War 2 and a 55-year member of the Peotone American Legion Post 392. He was the 3rd generation to operate Harms Plumbing and Heating in Peotone retiring in 1999 and moving to Arizona. Mr. Harms was a 32-year member of the Peotone Fire Department retiring in 1977 after serving as chief of the department from 1967 to 1977. During his tenure as chief, the department started the first all volunteer paramedic unit in the state of Illinois. He was a member of the Kankakee Valley and Wilco Fire Chiefs Associations. He also served as trustee of the Peotone Fire Protection District from 1987 to 1990 and was president of the Board of Trustees of the Peotone Fire Protection District from 1993 to 1997. His leadership as chief, trustee and president was instrumental in guiding the department towards the professional organization that it is today. Mr. Harms also served as a part-time police officer in Peotone and was the plumbing inspector for Peotone and Manteno. He was a member of the Bradley Moose Lodge, an avid golfer and bowler.

Amanda HARMS

Amanda H. Harms, 101 of Lexington, Ohio since 1991, longtime resident of Peotone, died Tuesday, May 18, 1999. Mrs. Harms retired in 1991 as office manager of the family business, Harms Plumbing and Heating in Peotone. She was born May 25, 1897 in Peotone, the daughter of John and Christina Froehner Brunner. Surviving are 1 son Allan Harms of Peotone, 1 daughter, Alva Ruge of Lexington, Ohio, 6 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Her husband, Alvin H. Harms, died in 1972. Also deceased are a brother Emil Brunner and an infant son, Russell. Visitation will be from 10 am Saturday until the 11:30 service at Fedde-Helfrich Chapel in Peotone. The Rev. Michael Ginter will officiate. Pallbearers will be Jon Ruge, Steve Ruge, Todd Harms, Edward Eng, Gary Younker and Robert Robbins. Memorials may be made to the Peotone Paramedics.

Peotone – Funeral services were held Sunday at Immanuel United Church of Christ for Donna J. Harms of Peotone, who died Thursday, February 25, 1982 at St. Joseph Hospital in Joliet at the age of 47. Mrs. Harms was born February 6, 1935 in Eldorado, Illinois. She had lived in Peotone since 1958 and was married to Allan Harms on February 12, 1959. A housewife, she was affiliated with Immanuel United Church of Christ. In addition to her husband, she is survived by 2 daughters, Toni (Gary) Younker of Peotone and Tamy at home; 1 son, Todd at home and 2 grandchildren, Stacy and Jaime Younker. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Claudia and Donald Ryan. The Rev. Dean Plassmann officiated at the funeral and interment was at the Peotone Cemetery. Pallbearers were Lanny Russell, Judston McDougall, John Ruge, Al Baade, Mark Reisdorf and Harry Helfrich. Memorials may be made to the Peotone Paramedics or Immanuel United Church of Christ.

Her husband, Clarence Harnack, whom she married Oct. 19, 1940, in Peotone, died in 1987. Surviving are one daughter, Rita Ann Harnack of Peotone; one niece, Joyce McKay of Joliet; one nephew, Glen Pauling of Monee; and one cousin, Edward Onken of Peotone. One sister, Elda Pauling; and two brothers, Arthur and Walter Toben, are deceased.

Services were held Monday morning for Joyce E. Hasemann, 55 of Manteno. Mrs. Hasemann died July 23, 2004 at Riverside Medical Center. She was born July 15, 1949 in Evergreen Park. She was a homemaker and a member of Christian Church of Manteno. She enjoyed making ceramics. Mrs. Hasemann is survived by a son, Michael (fiancee Christina) Hasemann of Manteno; 2 daughters, Julie Hasemann of Steger and Jill (John) Kausal of Manteno; 1 grandson, Justin Kausal; 2 brothers, Paul (Marilyn) Nagel, Jr. of Peotone and Robert (Ann) Nagel of Bourbonnais; a sister, Nancy Gudgeon of Peotone and several nieces and nephews. Services were held last week for Robert Hasse of Crete. Mr Hasse died March 13, 2002, at St James Hospital in Chicago Heights. He was born September 19, 1935, in Chicago. He was retired from Panduit Company in Tinley Park, and enjoyed Nascar racing, gardening and his grandchildren. Mr Hasse is survived by his wife, Rosalie Smola Hasse of Park Forest, six daughters, Susan Hasse of Park Forest, Kathy (Frederick) Brown of Chicago, Deborah (Daniel) Sippel and Nancy Jo (Mark) Mostert, both of Monee, Linda Lee (Tracy)Dove of Oak Forest and Renee (Al) Maltese of Markham; 13 grandchildren; two sisters, Dee OFfutt of Steger and Nancy (Michael) Sutherland of Indiana; four brothers, William (Marge) Hasse of Calumet City, Raymond (Patricia) Hasse and Donald (Cathy) Hasse, both of Lansing, and Larry (Roberta)of Tinley Park; three sisters-in-law, Carol Hasse of Beecher, Patricia Hasse of Steger and Mary Hasse of Michigan. She is survived by three sons, John, Elbert, and Alfred, and five daughters, Mrs. Henry STELLWAGEN, Mokena, Mrs. S. J. FULTON, Joliet, Mrs. George PITTAWAY, Chicago, Mrs. H.G. Surviving are nephews, Robert (Helen) Lewis of Peotone, Dennis (Winona) Rathje of Naperville, Gordon (Nancy) Meyer and Gilbert (Marcia) Meyer, all of Ottawa, Patrick (Carol) Hauert of Seattle, Wash., Tim (Paula) Hauert of Kankakee; nieces, Janis (Kevin) Nugent and Diane (Jerry) Dole, all of Manteno, Ellen (David) Emling of Herscher; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and several great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. One brother, Russell Meyer; one sister, Jeanette Rathje; three nephews, Kenneth Lewis, Doug Hauert, Michael Hauert; and one great-niece, Gail Peruba are deceased. Mrs. Hauert was a member of the Peotone United Methodist Church, the Women of the Moose and the United Methodist Women’s Auxiliary. She was an avid bowler, enjoyed all sports, and loved the Chicago White Sox.

Nicholas HAUERT

Nicholas HAUERT departed this life Monday at his home on Corning avenue after a lingering illness of several years duration, at the age of 67 years, 7 months and 28 days. Mr. HAUERT was a son of John and Elizabeth HAUERT, pioneer settlers of Peotone. He was born on a farm near Peotone May 16, 1862. He was married to Miss Mary DOPP, May 26, 1884. She passed away Aug. 13, 1888. He was married March 26, 1889, to Miss Augusta ROEDGER. She survives to mourn his departure. Mr. HAUERT was the father of nine children, five sons and four daughters. One, Irena, died in infancy and Frank died July 16, 1923, at the age of 38 years. The living children are Walter, Chicago, Harvey, Dewey and Nicholas, Peotone. Mrs. Sarah HEUSNER Frankfort, Mrs. Rose DOOCY, Sioux City, Iowa, and Mrs. Julia MARSHALL, Peotone. He leaves seven grandchildren. He is survived by one brother, Henry, Chicago and one sister, Mrs. HEUSNER, Denver, Colo., two step-brothers, Emil HOFFMAN, Chicago, and Louis HOFFMAN, Peotone. Mr. HAUERT united with the Evangelical church in Peotone Jan. 12, 1887. He served on the board of trustees from 1909 to 1923. The funeral service was held this afternoon at the First Evangelical church, the Rev. John HOERNER officiating. Burial was in Peotone Cemetery.

She was a lifelong area resident and was a member of Deselm United Methodist Church and Wesley Community Club. She married Ernest N. Hazelton, Sr. Survivors include 1 daughter, Alice (Donald) Smith of Limestone, Tennessee, 1 son, Ernest, Jr. of Wesley Township; 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Edith Johnson and Hildene Dibbie, both of Plymouth, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Hazelton, Sr., 1 sister, 1 brother, 1 grandson, daughter-in-law Ursula and son-in-law, Donald Smith. Everette W. Heatherwick, 85, of Green Garden Township, died Thursday, August 14, 2003, at Sunny Hill Nursing Home in Joliet. Mr. Heatherwick was employed by Electro Motive in LaGrange and later at the Buda Co. in Harvey. He was born in 1917, in Orland Township, the son of William and Gertrude Heatherwick. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Hazel Smith Heatherwick; 3 sons and 2 daughters-in-law, Alan and Beverly Heatherwick of Frankfort, Lane and Linda Heatherwick of Peotone, Kent Heatherwick of Byron; 5 grandchildren, 1 great-grandson and 1 step-great-granddaughter; 1 sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ellen and Art Rohde of Lockport; 1 brother and sister-in-law, James and Viola Heatherwick of Lemont; 1 brother-in-law, Peter (Letty) Smith of Bloomington; 2 sisters-in-law, Eileen Wagner of Lockport and Lila Ganser of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. The Rev. Ernest HEINEMANN who in July, 1926, resigned the pastorate of Immanuel Lutheran church after holding the charge for many years, Succumbed at Highland hospital at 4 o’clock this morning, the immediate cause of death being the effects of a stroke of apoplexy suffered on Tuesday morning. For many months, however, his health had been failing giving his many friends great concern and there was general sorrowing over the city today when word that he had passed on spread about. Rev. HEINEMANN was born in Crete, Ill., January 8, 1860, and lived there until 11 years of age when his mother died. He took a preparatory course for the ministry at Ft. Wayne, Ind., and finished his education at St. Louis, Mo., where he was ordained. His marriage to Mrs. HEINEMANN was celebrated about 44 years ago and on completing his studies at ST. Louis. His first charge was at Kewanee and there the home was made for about one year when he accepted a charge at Geneseo, Ill., where he remained for nine years. He came to Belvidere to accept the pulpit of Immanuel church in 1892 and with the exception of five years held it continuously until the first of July last year. Ill health forced him to resign in 1912 but he again became the pastor of the church in 1917 and held it until his failing health forced him to resign once more. Besides his widow, he is survived by five children, Clemens and Bertha, of Springfield, Ill.; George, of Brookfield, Ill.; Al of Belvidere; and Mrs. Foster JOHNSON, of this city. There also survive a sister, Mrs. William SANDSMAN, of St. Louis, Mo., a brother, Adolph HEINEMANN of Kirkwood, Mo., and six grandchildren. Private funeral services will be held from the late home, 514 West Boone street, at 1:30 o’clock Saturday afternoon and the principal rites will be conducted at 2 o’clock at Immanuel church on West Boone street. Anton HEISNER

Funeral services for Anton HEISNER, 84, were held on Monday, Oct.10. He had been living at the American Nursing Home in Joliete from where he wandered away on Friday night, Oct 7, and was struck by a car, suffering severe head injuries. He was taken to St. Joseph Hospital in the fire department ambulance where he was pronounced dead. Tony, as he was known, was born on a farm near Manhattan, the son of the late Peter and Catherine WERNER HEISNER. After his parents’ deaths, he made his home with his sister, Mrs. Fred (Sophie) BARTEN, later with some of her children. He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Alvin (Valeda) HARNACK of Frankfort and a brother, George, of Joliet, and a large group of newphews and nieces, each one being present at the funeral. The body was moved from the Klemm Funeral Home on Monday aftenoon to St. Paul’s United Church of Christ where services were conducted by Rev. Eugene Kalkbrenner at 2 p.m. Burial ws in the Winlton Center Cemetery.

Arline Lois HEISNER(nee MAGER) Age 85, late of Frankfort, died Friday, January 20, 2006. Preceded in death by her husband, Les (2000); and a brother, Russell (late Grace) MAGER. Harold E HEISNER, 77, of rural Peotone, passed away on Wednesday, 5 Sept 2001, at his home. Mr HEISNER was born in Peotone Township on 27 October 1923 to Adam HEISNER and Alma CARSTENS. He was a dairy and grain farmer and a real estate salesman for Century 21 Hobbs and Peotone Realty. He married Lois (nee)RUDER of Peotone on 12 Dec 1948 in Monee. She survives. Also surviving are one son, Brian HEISNER of Geneseo; one daughter Valerie HANSON of Orion; four grandchildren; two sisters, Arline ASBRAND and Irene BEHRENS, both of Peotone. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Kenneth HEISNER, and one sister Eleanor ARNOLD. He was a member of St Johns United Church of Christ, a 4-H club leader, church board member, Will County Farm Bureau, Peotone Kiwanis Club and Prime Timers. As a youth, he was an outstanding 4-H member. He enjoyed dancing, bowling and card playing. Services were held Monday morning for Koreen Heisner, 77 of rural Beecher. She died July 15, 2005 at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee. She was born April 14, 1928 in Green Garden Township and was a homemaker and an active member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in North Peotone. She was a former 4-H member and an active Stand advocate. She enjoyed family genealogy, dancing, reading and spending time with her family. Mrs. Heisner is survived by two sons, Gerald (Cecilia) Heisner of rural Manteno and Calvin (Helen) Heisner of rural Beecher; two daughters, Kathy (Daryl) Schawel of Martinez, California and Marla (Leo) Meaney of Hartland, Michigan; 11 grandchildren, Heidi and Adam Schawel, Brandon, Alicia and Justin Heisner; Mark and Andrew Heisner; Brean, Eric, Jillian and Amelia Meaney; 2 brothers, Stanley (Rosemary) Krapf of Peotone and William (Joanne) Krapf of Manhattan; and 1 sister, Carolyn (Norman) Gill of Elwood. William J. HEISNER, 70 years of age, was found dead at his home on Friday morning, shortly after six o’clock. According to Coroner Blood he had been dead from four to six hours. He was living alone, since the death of his wife Amelia, in March of this year. Mr. HEISNER was born in Manhattan Township and had been engaged in farming practically all his life. He retired about ten years ago. He had been in failing health for several years. His wife, Amelia, preceded him in death in March this year. He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Fred GILL of Wilmington; Mrs. Lester CASE of Manhattan; Mrs. Harold GILL of Fargo, North Dakota, and Mrs. Harry POOLMAN of Mapleton, North Dakota; three sons, Wilbur of Manhattan; Melvin of Peotone, and Robert of Joliet; two sisters, Mrs. Sophie BARTEN of Manhattan, and Mrs. Alvin HARNACK of Frankfort, and three brothers, Anton of Manhattan, Adam of Peotone and George of Joliet. Mr HELDT was a grain and dairy farmer for more than 50 years before retiring. He received the A.M.P.I. Dairy Milk Award for being director of the Whitaker School for five years. He was a member of the Kankakee Farm Bureau Board for 2 years, and Kankakee H.I.A. Board sponsor for Blue Cross/Blue Shield for 30 years. Mr HELDT died Wednesday, April 3, 2002. He was born 19 March, 1909 in Washington Township, Beecher, the sone of Charles and Pauline KLEMME HELDT. His wife, the former Maxine HAMANN, whom he married 25 Nov 1933, at the parsonage at St Peters United Church of Christ, died 10 March 1994. Surviving are 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Byron and Cheryl HELDT of Kankakee, Norman and Irene HELDT of Grant Park; one daughter and son-in-law Karen and Dennis SEITZ of Beecher; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Four brothers and one sister are deceased. He was financial secretary for St Peters United Church of Christ for six years and rang the church bell for 27 years.

She was the daughter of the late Mr and Mrs John Kurtz, pioneer farmers of Joliet Township.She is survived by two sons, LeRoy of Rochester, Indiana, William of Elwood, a daughter, Lois Hibner of Elwood, ten grandchildren, four sisters, Mrs Rudolph Lange, Mrs Charles Kurtz, Mrs Charles Brouse and Mrs George Flood and one brother, John Kurtz. Funeral services were held Sunday at 2:30 pm from the Fred C Dames Funeral Hone. Joliet. Rev E W Frenk officiated at the funeral service. Burial was in Browns Cemetery, Jackson Township.

burglary and robbery- an old man named john hibner living at jackson,s grove, was robbed on tuesday nite of last weekof $4000.oo, under the following circumstances- three men entered the house from a upper window, at about midnight, and after compelling the hired man to get into the bed occupied by a young woman, one of them stood guard, while the other two, by threats and with revolver in hand, made the old man give them the keys of his safe, when they opened it and took there from, $2000 in gold and $2000 in greenbacks and decamped . no arrests have yet been made. (john hibner was my great great grandfather and he died a month later from his beating.)

Died At 11 o’clock, Sunday, May 9, 1880, Mrs. Martha HODGDON, wife of T. M. HODGDON, Purchasing Agent between Joliet and Chicago. Mrs. Hodgdon was a great sufferer, and has been an invalid for some time. The funeral will take place Tuesday at 2 o’clock from the Richards street church. This (Monday) morning Mr. Jno. RYAN received a telegram from Notre Dame, Ind., stating that Sister Isadore of the Holy Cross died there early in the morning of consumption. She was about 26 years of age, was a sister of Mrs. Ryan, and resided here quite a long time since Mr. Ryan leaves this evening for Notre Dame, where the funeral will be held on to-morrow. April 27, at her home in Wheatland, Mrs. Sarah DAVIS, wife of the late John H. DAVIS, aged 85 years. She and her husband came from Wales New York, and settled in this county in the year of 1850. Mr. Davis died several years ago.

Frankfort – Mr. Abel E. HOLDEN died Friday night at the age of 77 years. He was buried in the cemtery near Squire Sanders, where two of his former wives were interred. [Note: “Squire Sanders” may be referring to the property of M.F. SANDERS, who owned a large parcel of land at the northwest corner of Green Garden Township. According to an 1862 plat map, the small property of Abel E. HOLDEN was located at the southwest edge of Frankfort Township, which was across the road from the property owned by M. F. SANDERS. The Illinois Death Index, shows that Abel E. HOLDEN died at Frankfort Station and was buried at Frankfort Township.]

Betty Mae HOLM

Betty Mae HOLM Age 74, died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004 in Cedar Bluff, AL. She was born May 10, 1930 in Joliet to George and Emma (HEISNER) KRATZENBERG. On October 9, 1954, she married Irvin Frederick HOLM who preceded her in death in 1965. Betty grew up in Frankfort, married and settled in Mokena in 1965. In September of 2003, she moved to McHenry. She worked as a proof operator in the banking business most her life in Frankfort, Lombard, Joliet and New Lenox. She was a Girl Scout Leader and a member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church. Among her enjoyments were ceramics, collecting frogs, bingo, playing cards, working on her family history and most of all, traveling. She would collect a sample of earth from all the places she traveled to. Survivors include two sons, Alan (Cynthia) HOLM of McHenry, Dennis (Joyce) HOLM Sr. of Crystal Lake; a daughter, Barbara (Mark) PIKE of Cedar Bluff, AL; 11 grandchildren, Brian, Bruce, Johnathan, Nicholas, Samantha, Doug, Amy, Barbara Joy, Laurie, Rebecca and Dennis, Jr.; eight great grandchildren, Brian, Hunter, Lucas, Zachary, Cayden, Tyler, Crystal and Jack; and two brothers, George (Delores) KRATZENBERG of Frankfort and Dale (Maryanne) KRATZENBERG of New Glarus, WI. (OTT) HOMERDING; four sons, Donald (Karen) HOMERDING of San Francisco, CA, Ronald (Valarie) HOMERDING of St. Joseph, MO, John (Darlene) HOMERDING of Lockport and Gregg (Fiancee, Liz ROCKMAN) of Urbana, IL; seven grandchildren, David (Jen), Mark (Joyce), Chad, Kristen, Mariann, James, Brent, Samantha and Rian; two brothers, James (Carol) HOMERDING of Lockport and Robert Homerding of CO; two sisters, Gladyss (Art) ANDERSON of Winter Haven, FL and Shirley (Bill) SWENSON of Port Orange, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews. Born in Lockport living in the area all of his life. Graduate of St. Joseph Grade School, Lockport Township High School; served 3 1/2 years in the US Navy aboard the USS Iowa which was involved in ten major battles and was present at the signing of Japan’s surrender. He was the recipient of the Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal with eight stars, Philippine Liberation Medal with two stars and the American Area Medal. He was a founding lifetime member of the Lockport VFW, and a member of the Lockport Moose. Participated in local sports for a number of years, first as a player and then coached youth baseball. An avid Cubs fan his whole life, having been invited to try out in Chicago in his early career. He retired from Texaco after 40 years of service mostly as a pipe fitter first class. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard A. and Marie (EIPERS) HOMERDING; two brothers, Bernard “Ding” and Donald “Pete” HOMERDING; three sisters, Betty MONSAHUE; and two in infancy. HORTON, 86 years old, who died Tuesday morning after two months illness, were held Wednesday afternoon in the home of his stepdaughter, Mrs. Olin SAGE. Mr. HORTON is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Lucy SHEELER and Mrs. Annie FRENCH of Joliet, a son, John HORTON, of Minnesota; three stepdaughters, Mrs. O. THOMAS of Middeville, Mich, Mrs. A. George HOUCK

** Obituary ** Died -George HOUCK, Monday evening, Oct. 21, 1901, at his home surrounded by his family and friends. The subject of this sketch was born Sept. 15, 1840, at Waldheim, Amt. Tuebingen, Wuerttemberg, and came to this country, landing in New York, Aug. 9, 1858. He joined the army Sept. 15, 1861, entering Co. H, 111th Pennsylvania volunteers and served with patriotic valor for three years, one month and fifteen days. He was wounded at the battle of Bull Run in July, 1863 (incorrect info). After his honorable discharge he located for a short time at Warren, Penn. From there he moved westward and for awhile lived at Crown Point, Ind. He came to Beecher in 1867 and lived here continuously up to the time of his death. Engaging in the shoe business he was to be found at his store at all times until about two years ago when he was compelled on account of delicate health to give up active work. Mr. HOUCK was sick for four years but patiently bore the intense suffering peculiar to his ailment. The direct cause of death was a tumor in the region of the liver, and attendant complications. Besides the sorrowing widow, he leaves three children living–Mrs. Minnie FREGEAU, of Chicago, Mrs. Rudolph PECHT, of Beecher, and a son, “Frank.” The funeral is to be held Thursday afternoon at 1 o’clock, and will be under the charge of Rev. F. Siegfried. The interment will take place in the Beecher Cemetery; the remains borne thither by old comrades. Mr. HOUCK was in health a progressive and public spirited citizen. He took a lively interest in the welfare of the community and leaves a large circle of mourning friends. Harriet HUGHES

HUGHES — Harriet, wife of S. B. HUGHES, passed away at 3:30 a. m. today from heart trouble and old age, at the residence, 1308 Benton street. Age 75 years. Mrs. Hughes has been a resident of Joliet for 40 years. She came from the neighborhood of Wilkesbarre, Pennsylvania, where she was married. Three weeks ago last Saturday she celebrated her birthday with a family party. There survive her, her husband, who is in the oil business; two daughters, Mrs. Orson (Ida) DOLPH and Mrs. S. C. (Hattie) ADAMS, and son, Chester A. George, another son having died a few years ago while on business in New Jersey. Funeral notice later.

Herman E HUPE

Herman E. Hupe, 91, of Peotone, passed away July 3, 2005 at home. He was born May 30, 1914 at home in Homewood, to Herman and Bertha (Schilling) Hupe. He was a millwright at Acme Steel in Harvey for 20 years, owned and operated Hupe Hardware in Peotone for 26 years (1951-1978), was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Beecher and Grace Lutheran Church in Peotone, was past president and member of Peotone Chamber of Commerce and was a former member of Peotone Community School District 207U School Board. Mr. Hupe is survived by his wife, Dorothy H. (Krueger) Hupe of Peotone (whom he married May 9, 1936 in Roseland); 2 sons, Daniel Hupe of Peotone and Michael Hupe of Missoula, Montana; 1 daughter, Virginia (Ronald) Mundt of Dodgeville, Wisconsin, 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son, Larry; 2 daughters, Nancy Hupe and Corinne Baker; 2 brothers, Martin and Wilbur; and a sister, Elizabeth Jungles. Funeral services were held July 7 at Zion Lutheran Church of Beecher. Rev. Ronald Rock officiated. Interment was at St. John’s Cemetery in Country Club Hills. Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church of Beecher or Grace Lutheran Church of Peotone. Pallbearers were Curt Hupe, Jeff Mundt, Lloyd Hupe, Kenneth Baker, Brian Mundt and Matthew Baker.

John HUSEMAN

Dying From Injuries Man Summons Aid John Huseman, Thrown Under Wagon, Drags Himself to Station, Then Dies. Pitched by frightened horses and thrown beneath a wagon heavily loaded with freight, John HUSEMAN, aged 25 years, died early today in Crete from injuries received in an attempt to control a team which he was driving. Huseman was pitched directly beneath the wheels and the wagon with its heavy load passed over his abdomem. Conscious and suffering the agonies of death the injured man managed to drag himself to the station of the Chicago & Eastern railroad where bystanders carried him into the depot and summoned medical aid. Fifteen minutes later he died, having succumbed before physicians arrived. Examination, however, showed that the injuries were of such a vital nature that had medical assistance been given in time, attempts to save his life would have proved useless. No one witnessed the accident which occured at the freight depot where Huseman was unloading machinery and other weighty freight. He was alone at the time and in the moments preceding his death managed to gasp out the facts concerning the accident. I is thought he lived about twenty minutes after being injured. Huseman came to Crete about four years ago to reside with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William GLAUSEN, who, with his father, who residesin Chicago survive him. He was employed by F. W. SALLER, the liveryman and was a young man of excellent habits who had made many friends in Crete. His mother died about three years ago. Funeral arrangements will be made later.

Charles A. HUTSON

HUTSON-At his home, 104 Manning avenue, Chas. A. HUTSON, Saturday evening, aged 83 years. Two sons and a daughter survive him-Edgar C. and L.G. HUTSON of Joliet, and Mrs. G.B. WOOD, of Lunenberg, Mass. Mr. Hutson was born in Walpole, Mas., Sept. 15, 1819. He came to Illinois in the spring of 1856, and with the exception of eight years has been a resident of this county since and seventeen years a resident of Joliet. The funeral will be held at 2 o’clock tomorrow afternoon at the house. Burial in Oakwood.

George W HYDE

Ending of a Busy Life — Mr. George W. HYDE, a Pioneer of the ’50’s Passes Away Friday Forenoon, in his Sixty-Eighth Year. — At eleven o’clock Saturday forenoon, at his home 303 North Ottawa street surrounder by part of his family, and other near relatives, Mr. George W. HYDE, passed to his reward in the Great Beyond in his sixty-eighth year. He leaves a widow, whom he married in 1857, her maiden name being Mary HOWARD; and five children — Mrs. W. W. EVANS, of Chicago; Mrs. W. E. HOWARD, of Soudan, Minnesota; Mr. Louis H. HYDE, George PRESTON, and Mary HYDE of this city. The funeral will take place from the house Monday afternoon at half-past one o’clock, Rev. A. H. LAING, officiating. Mr. HYDE was born in Batavia, New York; several of his earlier years were passed in Watertown. In 1856 he came to Joliet operating as a surveyor on the Illinois and Michigan canal, under Mr. J. B. PRESTON. He and his uncle, late Henderson HOWK, built and operated the flouring mills above the Jackson street bridge, many years. About four years ago he retired from business having amassed a comfortable competence. Mr. HYDE was Democratic, socially, a staunch Republican, politically, and a Universalist by religion. He was unassuming, a staunch friend; in his family he was all that could be desired in a husband and a father. His faults were few.

In His Last Resting Place. All that was earthly of the late George W. HYDE was laid to rest in snow-covered Oakwood yesterday afternoon. The body looked wonderfully like life, as he reposed in his casket; the latter being of heavy red cedar, plainly covered with black broadcloth; a plain oxidized plate inscribed: 1823 George Warren Hyde 1891. Old friends were gathered in the parlors to mourn with his family. His pall-bearers were old time friends: D. Y. SMITH, Wm. DAVIDSON, Henry FISH, W. A. STRONG, Wm. ADAM, Horace HUMPHREY, O. FOX, M.
