Dorothy E. Waldhauser, 89, a lifelong resident of Manhattan, died Saturday, September 6, 2003, at Anchorage of Beecher. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Forsythe Funeral Home, 507 S. State St. (Rt. 52) in Manhattan. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul United Church of Christ, 140 Thelma St. in Manhattan. Rev. Carol Currier-Frighetto will officiate. Interment will be in Manhattan Center Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Paul United Church of Christ, where she was a member. Mrs. Waldhauser served as Manhattan Township assessor for many years Her husband, Harry Waldhauser, is deceased. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Don Robbins of St. Charles; one son and daughter-in-law, Ralph and Betty Waldhauser of Chatham; a sister and brother-in-law, Marjorie and Lloyd Schmidt of Manhattan; six grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Her parents, Edward and Emma Werner Waldhauser; and one sister, Ruth Zatteau, are deceased. She enjoyed playing cards.

Luella WALDVOGEL (nee LUHRING) Age 91, of Frankfort, died Monday, December 1, 2003 at Silver Cross Hospital, Joliet. She is survived by two sons, Allen (Theresa) WALDVOGEL of Manhattan and Donald WALDVOGEL of Hilbert, Wisconsin; and five grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents, Christian and Emma MINGER LUHRING husband, Clarence WALDVOGEL; three sisters, Leona TEWES, Lavetta FORSYTHE and Lucille CANNIZZIO. Luella lived in Frankfort area her entire life. She was a member of St. Peters United Church of Christ of Frankfort. Funeral Services location are pending. WALLACE–At her home, 109 Bowen Place, Friday morning, November 3. Mrs. P.S. WALLACE, aged 74 years. Besides her husband she leaves three sons and two daughters, Joshua and Louis GARLICK, of Chicago, Bernard WALLACE, Mrs. F. E. BARRINGER, and Mrs. G. W. TOREN, of this city. The funeral will take place from her late home at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 5 to Sacred Heart Church at 2:30. Burial in Mount Olivet.

Patrick WALLACE

Headline: Death of Old Resident. Patrick S. Wallace Passes Away After Long Illness. Body of article: P. S. Wallace, a well known old resident of Joliet passed away Friday at 11 pm at his home on Bowen place. Mr. Wallace has been in poor health for four years and was confined to his bed much of the time. Patrick Sarsfield Wallace was born in Quebec, Canada, 67 years ago. In the year 1847 the family moved to Joliet. They lived for a number of years on Wallace street, which was named in honor of Mr. Wallace’s father, Thomas Wallace. Some years later they moved to a farm in Manhattan. While Patrick was still a very young man he left the farm and went to work on the canal driving a towing team. By industry and faithfulness he soon became the owner of a boat. About twenty-five years ago he sold his boat, retired from business and took up his residence in Joliet, but a person so active could not be content thus and in a short time he engaged in the coal business, from which he retired about ten years ago. In 1867 Mr. Wallace married Mrs. Julia GARLICK who died Nov. 3, 1905. Five children survive: Mrs. Esther BARRINGER, of Joliet, Bernard Wallace, and Mrs. Lucy TORREN, of Chicato and Louis and Joshua Garlick of Joliet. Mr. Wallace was a brother of the late Bryan Wallace, of this city, and the late Thomas Wallace, of Chicago. Peter Wallace, of Ashkum, Ill. Andrew Wallace, of Los Angeles, Cal., Mrs Wm. COLBERT and Miss Elizabeth Wallace , of Aneta, N.D. and Sister Amabilis of Holy Cross Covent, Columbus, Ohio. Mr. Wallace was a man of great intelligence and sterling worth of character, who won the respect and good will of all with whom he was associated in any respect. He was honest, religious, temperate, industrious, tender and affectionate. The funeral will be held Monday morning at ten o’clock with Solemn High Mass at Sacred Heart Church. Burial at Mount Olivet. Friends are asked to kindly omit flowers.

Edith WALLSCHLAEGER

Edith J. Wallschlaeger, 81, a resident of Peotone for 20 years, and formerly of Mokena, died Thursday, January 31, 2002. Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Sunday at the Fedde- Helfrich Chapel, Peotone, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday. Rev. Bruce Humbert will officiate. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Mokena. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Research Fund. She was born Aug. 20, 1920, in Chicago, the daughter of O’Learance Cook and Jean Fotheringham Bruce. Her husband, Runo Wallschlaeger, is deceased. Surviving are two sons and one daughter-in-law, Lawrence Wahls of Chicago, Alan and Barbara Wallschlaeger of Elmhurst; two daughters and one son-in-law, Jean and Terry Lalumendre of Peotone, Bonnie Wallschlaeger of Kankakee; two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. One grandson, Alan Wallschlaeger Jr., is deceased. Mrs. Wallschlaeger was a former bookkeeper for Hart, Schaffner, Marx Inc. of Chicago. She was a member of the Sauk Trail Baptist Temple.

Life Long Resident Of Frankfort Dies Mrs. Anna DONAHUE WALSH, 62 years old, a life long resident of Frankfort, died yesterday at her home following an illness of nearly a year. She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. A. J. MITCHELL of Joliet, Mrs. James WALSH of Manhattan, Mrs. Mary LAWLOR of Frankfort, and Miss Mildred WALSH of Frankfort, and one son, Eugene of Frankfort. Mrs. WALSH was prominent in church work and was a member of the Altar and Rosary society of the St. Mary’s church of Joliet. Funeral servies will be held Friday morning at 9:30 o’clock from St. Mary’s church. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery.

James WALSH

Frankfort Man Dies As Result Of Injuries Inquest Held Over Remains of James WALSH, Injured One Week Ago James WALSH of Frankfort, who was injured in the Folker Bros. stone crusher at New Lenox one week ago, died yesterday about 5 a. m., as a result of the injuries he received. At the time of the accident he suffered several broken ribs, and the inquest was asked to determine if death was due to this cause. The deceased was 58 years of age and was born in Co. Kilkenny, Ireland. He came to Will Co. when he was 18 years old. Funeral Friday at St. Mary’s church, Joliet. The funeral party will leave Frankfort at 7:45 on the interurban and after the church service will leave on street cars for Mt. Olivet. Besides his widow, Anna DONAHUE WALSH, he leaves six children: Mrs. James WALSH and Mrs. Richard LAWLER of Manhattan, Richard, Eugene, Annie and Mildred who are at home. The family is well known, Mr. WALSH having resided in Frankfort for forty years. He had a wide circle of relatives and friends who have kindly memories of him.

David WANDLESS Sr., of 109 Hobbs Ave., a retired Jackson Township farmer, died Monday at Silver Cross Hospital at the age of 83 years. Death followed a brief illness. Mr. WANDLESS was born at Braceville but lived in Will County most of his life. He farmed in Elwood Jackson-Township area many years prior to his retirement 20 years ago. He moved to Joliet after his retirement. His wife, the former Myrtle FAULKNER, died in 1950. Mr. WANDLESS is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Albert (Gertrude) PETERSEN and Mrs. Lawrence (Lillian) WEBER, both of Joliet and Mrs. Austin (Dorothy) VINING of South Wilmington; two sons, Milfred of Gary Ind.; and David of Elwood; 15 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren. The body is at the Klemm Funeral Home at Manhattan where friends may call Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 10 p.m. The body will be taken to the Evangelical United Brethren Church at Manhattan Thursday to lie in state from 1 p.m., until time for the funeral services at 2 p.m. The Rev. John WARNING

John WARNING, 82 years of age, of 203 North Cedar Road, New Lenox, died on April 27th, at his home, following a six months illness. Mr. WARNING was born in Germany and cmae to Mokena in 1881, where he built and operated a large ditching machine, one of the first of its kind in this area. He moved to New Lenox in 1924 and operated the Warning garage until the time of his death. He is survived by his widow, Marie; four sons, Lloyd of Mokena, Clarence of Peotone, Leonard and Lloyd of New Lenox; two daughters, Mrs. John EMBLING of New Lenox, and Mrs. Frank DOYLE of Manhattan, and two brothers, Fred of Frankfort and George of Mokena. The body was removed to the Sonntag Funeral Home. Funeral services were held at the New Lenox Methodist Church on Monday, April 30th at 2:00 p.m., with the Rev. George Martin officiating. Wilma WARNING

Wilma Warning, 82, of Peotone, died Saturday, June 29, 2002 in Minooka. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. Tuesday until the 8 p.m. services at the Fedde-Helfrich Chapel, Peotone. Rev. Bruce Gotschall will officiate. Cremation rites will be accorded. Memorials may be made to the local Hospice. She was born Jan. 3, 1920, in Bloomington, the daughter of Walter and Isla Mae Johnson White. Her husband, Clarence Warning, whom she married April 10, 1948, in Joliet, died in 1990. Surviving are four sons and three daughters-in-law, Clair Warning of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Ronald and Joanne Warning of New Lenox, David and Denise Warning, Robert and Kim Warning, all of Peotone; two daughters and sons-in-law, Marcia and Terry Martin of Des Moines, Iowa, Alice and Rick Wasney of Park Forest; 20 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. One son, Gordon Warning; two daughters-in-law, Martha Warning and Polly Warning; and one granddaughter, Stephanie, are deceased. She was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during World War II. Mrs. Warning was a retired secretary for the Peotone School District. She was a member of the Peotone United Methodist Church and the Eastern Will County Senior Services.

E. J. WARREN

Sad Casualty. — We learn from the Aurora (California) Times, that Mr. E. J. WARREN, formerly of this city, was accidentally shot in that town, on the 15th ult. It appears that Mr. Warren was present when an altercation took place between two men, which terminated in the use of revolvers, and a shot by accident took effect upon Mr. W., killing him instantly. The deceased was a young man of fine abilities. His relatives here have our warmest sympathies in their sad bereavement.

George Herbert WATLING

George Herbert WATLING, 90 of Annawan, died at 1:25 a.m. Monday in the Henry County Convalescent Home. He had resided at the home for the past 7 1/2 years. Mr. Watling was born April 13, 1869, in Lees England. He came to the United States with his parents and a sister in 1881, settling in Oswego. Later he moved to New Lennox where he married Minnie Mae WICKS of Elwood. A daughter born in 1912 to the couple died in infancy. Mr. WATLING lived in Annawan for 46 years, conducting both a clothing and restaurant business. Surviving are his wife, a resident of the convalescent home; a brother, John WATLING, and a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth FARLEY, both in nursing homes in Joliet. Funeral services were held yesterday at 2 p.m. in the Annawan Community Church. The Rev. Frank FREISLAND officiated. The P. L. WILSON Funeral Home, Annawan was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in Annawan cemetery.

Minnie WATLING

Mrs. Minnie WATLING, 90, formerly of Annawan, died Wednesday, December 20, at the Henry County Convalescent Home, where she had lived the past 12 years. She was the widow of George WATLING, formerly an Annawan restaurant operator. Funeral services were held Friday, at 2 p.m. at the Annawan Community Church. The Rev. Paul MERADOFA officiated. Interment was in the Annawan Cemetery. Friends called at the P. L. WILSON Funeral Home in Annawan on Thursday. Mrs. WATLING was born on June 4, 1871. On March 23, 1893, she was married to George WATLING in Joliet. She taught school in Joliet for some time. She came to Annawan with her husband in 1908. Mrs. WATLING was a member of the Community Church, the Royal Neighbors and the Ladies Aid Society. Survivors are her sister Miss Grace WICK. Preceding her in death were her husband, who died two years ago, one infant daughter, and two brothers, Frank and Fred WICK.

Wilfred Henry WATLING

By Elma O. BARNES Bill H. WATLING, Sr., of Symerton, President of the Village for an estimated 16 years, passed away Saturday, January 23, 1982, in Silver Cross Hospital, Joliet. Born October 19, 1926, in Joliet the son of John W. WATLING and the late Sattabelle OHLHUES WATLING. Bill has been a leader in Symerton, Wilmington, and organizations who sought his membership. He had the quality to inspire other workers for the good of the community, all working in unison for a worthy cause. His achievements were legion, with an admirable respect for his knowledge and intelligence. Bill will be missed by those in every walk of life; his character above reproach, and a good friend to the needy and affluent. He guided the citizens of the Village of Symerton in a closely knit atmosphere, always enjoying a smooth operation. Under his leadership and with faithful workers they celebrated Symertons Centennial 1880-1980 which was a spectacular and fun event. Bill Watling was a sincere civic worker, an asset to the City of Wilmington as he assisted in the forming of the Youth Center in the 1960s. Later, this organization under his leadership became The Recreation Civic Center located in the city owned building on River Street. Under his leadership, bus trips for senior citizens among them The Covered Bridge Festival and others, Pancake Breakfast, Spaghetti Suppers with his wife Darlene assisting in the kitchen and other faithful workers taking care of needed jobs. As director, plumber, roofer (with the help of his Dad on the roof), accepting no renumeration in any way for his labor. Under his leadership the Barnes Circus was sponsored at Winchester Green, assisted by a sincere and intense worker, John PERSIC, proved to be a smashing success, defraying the expenses of the Rec. Civic Center. Always sought for advice, opinions, and to work on committees, having enthusiasm for a project, lending hard work to the event at hand, assured success. Bill WATLING was known far and wide due to the Bill CARNEGIE Orchestra which he conducted. This orchestra appeared with notable artists such as Ken Diamond, Gloria Van Lavon Carroll, Mike Caldwell, Jack E. Leonard Yonely. They were annual entertainers for the Joliet Park District under a program entitled Music Under The Stars, regular entertainers at Kankakee Elks, Shriners, Fire Dept. of Bourbonnais and Will County Sheriffs Police, Clubs, wedding receptions and proms of good sized communities. In 1974, an article carried a story of the Bill CARNEGIE Ochestra, stating after 20 years they were one of the most sought after orchestras of the midwest. Among their engagements were Palace Country Club, Chicago; Chanute Air Force Base, Rantoul; Bunker Hill Air Force Base, Peru, Indiana; University of Illinois, at Urbana; Kalamazoo Country Club, Michigan; Coliseum Ballroom, Davenport, Iowa; Delavan Gardens Ballroom, Delavan, Wisc.; Indiana Roof Ballroom in Indianapolis; LaSalle Hotel; Shoreland Hotel in Chicago to name a few. Music made popular by the Dorsey Brothers, Duke Ellington, Griff Williams, Freddy Martin, Russ Morgan, Beatles and with their library of songs including Irving Berlin, Rogers and Hammerstein, Mancini and others were all on their agenda. Among the organizations Bill was a member were: Lions (past president); Wilmington Masonic Lodge 208 (past master); Bloomington Consistory; Medinah Temple, Chicago; Joliet Shrine Club; Wilmington O E S 176 (past patron, his wife Darlene served with him as matron); Member of the American Welding Society (past chairman); Member of Joliet Federation of Musicians. When Patron of Wilmington O E S 176 they compiled a booklet with a short history of the Masonic Order. Mr. WATLING was married to the former Darlene F. MILLER. They had the pleasure of celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary, holding Open House in their spacious home in Symerton. Through his work for the company, they enjoyed a cruise and a trip to Las Vegas. Numerous fishing trips to Wisconsin and zest and enthusiasm for acomplishment and civic service. Services for Bill WATLING were held Tuesday, January 26, 1982, at 11 a.m. in FREITAG Funeral Chapel, North Main Street, Wilmington. Masonic services were held Monday evening at 8 p.m. Those preceding Bill WATLING in death were his first wife Ann GANSTER, his mother Sattabelle OHLHUES WATLING and a sister, June WATLING HOLMES SCHAAL. Survivors are his wife Darlene, two daughters, Sharon FRANK and Patricia MATLOCK of Wilmington; one son Bill WATLING Jr. of Morris, four grandchildren; his father, John WATLING of Symerton; stepmother, Clare HUSTON; and a brother Jack WATLING of Rockdale. Interment was in Elmhurst Cemetery, Joliet. Memorials may be sent to the Heart and/or Cancer Research Funds.

Miss Samantha WARREN

Warren – Miss Samantha WARREN died at her home in Joliet, Ill., Apr. 5, 1910. Born near Aurora, N. Y., Nov. 26, 1822, she came to Illinois with her parents in 1833, Locating in DuPage Township, Will County. Her whole life was given in loving service. Her mother died in 1841, leaving her ten children. Besides mothering the family she found time to minister to many of the sick and suffering in those early pioneer days. In 1886, after her father’s death, she came to Joliet and joined the First Baptist Church, and in 1890 became a charter member of the Eastern Ave. Baptist Church, of which she was a member at the time of her death. She was a simple, strong in her convictions, and fearles in her stand for truth and righteousness. She was a suscriber to The Standard from the vey first issue until her death.

Mrs. Margaret Weil dies at home Mrs. Margaret Weil, widow of the late Gustav Weil, 77 years old, died today at her home at 207 Dover street, following a two week illness. Mrs. Weil was a resident of Joliet for the last 49 years. She moved to Joliet with her husband when she was 28 years old. She is survived by 5 daughters, Matilda and Stella Weil and Mrs. Archie Greenwood of Joliet, Mrs. Emery Green of Plainfield, and Mrs. Alexander Powell of Kenosha, Wis; three sons, Arthur, Gustav, and William; all of Joliet; and nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

May Roxie Chidsey WEIL

Mrs. May Weil, of Pioneer Family, Dies Mrs. May Weil, 87, of 215 Iowa Ave., a native and life long resident of Joliet whose parents were among the pioneer settlers her, died suddenly Saturday afternoon. Mrs. Weil was stricken with a heart attack shortly after 2p.m. Firemen Robert Egan and Harold Maier gave inhaltor treatment for 50 minutes in a futile effort to revive Mrs. Weil. Born in Joliet, Mrs. Weil was the daugther of the late John and Ellen Chidsey. Her father operated one of the first livery stables here. She was preceeded in death by her husband, William in 1931, and was the last of six brothers and sisters in the Chidsey family. Mrs. Weil was a charter member of the Altar and Rosary Society of Sacred Heart Church. She is survived by a son, Harold, with whom she made her home on Iowa Avenue; three granddaughters, and two great grandchildren. Removal was to the Pisut funeral home, pending completion of funeral arrangements.

Pioneer is at Rest IGNATZ WEISHAAR is summoned by death Had Resided in Joliet Nearly Sixty Years Frank I. Weishaar, of Republican, A Son Another old and respected citizen and resident of Joliet has entered into his final rest. Mr. Ignatz Weishaar who for over forty years resided at 303 North Center Street, died last evening, at 8:55 o’clock, of the infirmities of old age. Mr. Weishaar was born in Schoenenburg, Germany, February 16, 1831. He came to America in 1844, sailing on March 19, 1844. He arrived in Chicago July 4, 1844, and soon after with his parents, settled on a farm in Rich township, Cook county, Illinois, where he resided for some twelve years. He came to Joliet about 1856 and from that time to about 1871 was engaged in the dry good business. First at 105 Jefferson street and later in the store now occupied by the Adler Meat Market, on Exchange street. Mr. Weishaar was one of Joliet’s most respected citizens and in 1871 was elected and served as collector of this town. In 1872 he retired from business and for nearly forty years has enjoyed the comforts of home and the rest to which a well spent life entitled him. A great Lover of Music Mr. Weishaar was a great lover of music and in 1876 was the organist of St. John’s German Catholic Church of this city. April 5, 1853 Mr. Weishaar was married to Johanna Ledoux, who was born in Rosebenz, Switzerland, February 14, 1834, and in 1903 they celebrated their golden wedding at St. John’s German Catholic Church in this city. Mrs. Weishaar survives her husband but is in very feeble health. In addition to his widow Mr. Weishaar is survived by the following children: Mrs. Frank Weis, Mrs. John Friedrich, Mrs. Anthony Reichman and Frank I. Weishaar, superintendent of The Joliet Republican Printing Company of this city, Mrs. C. B. Brainard and Mrs. Thos. Dunning of Chicago, Mrs. A. P. Baer of McCallsburgh, Ia., Mrs. Charles Young and Mrs. Dr. Schoop of Lockport, August S. Weishaar of Waterloo, Iowa, and Mrs. J. Dahl of Columbus, Ohio. Three other children died in infancy and another at the age of 11 years. About two months ago, on account of advanced age and feeble health, Mr. Weishaar, with his aged wife, moved from the home they had occupied so long to the residence of their daughter, Mrs. J. F. Friederich, 1143 North Hickory street, where he died and where service will be held at 1:30 tomarrow, Sunday afternoon. Funeral Services These services, on account of the feeble health of the widow, will be for relatives only. From the house they will proceed to St. John’s German Catholic Church where the funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Rev. Father Cyriac officiating. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. The pall bearers will be the nephews of the deceased. Friends are requested kindly to omit flowers.

Eugene WEISS

Graveside services for Eugene WEISS, 87, were held Tuesday, March 20, at 2 p.m. from North Bend Methodist Cemetery under the direction of McClain- Hays Funeral Home. The Rev. Leavy SHOFFNER Jr., officiated. Mr. Weiss died Sunday, March 18, in the Neshoba County Nursing Home. He was a native of Illinois and a longtime resident of Joliet, Ill. He had lived in Philadelphia for the past four years. He was retired from the railroad where he worked in janitorial maintenance. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Weiss in 1997. Survivors include one daughter Shirley Riordan of Colorado Springs, Colo; one son, Robert Eugene Weiss of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and three grandchildren. Pallbearers were Steve WARREN, Richard Warren, Earl Shoffner, Douglas Watkins, Robert Warren and Willie Warren.

Ruth Alice WELSH

Ruth Alice Welsh, age 87, of Peotone, passed away Friday, September 16, 2005 at Christ Hospital and Medical Center, Oak Lawn. Born February 14, 1918 in Peotone, the daughter of Frank and Myrtle (nee Love) Lawrence, she married George Welsh on January 6, 1937 in Peotone. she was a homemaker and was a member of Peotone United Methodist Church. Surviving are her sons Larry (Deanna) Welsh; Bob (Nancy) Welsh; and Harry (Beverly) Welsh, all of Peotone; a daughter Shirley (Leonard) Arnold of Martinton, Illinois; 13 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, George in 2000, her parents, brother Harry Lawrence and sister Ada Miller. Visitation will be Monday September 19, 2005 from 3-8 pm at Fedde-Helfrich Chapel, 112 Main Street, Peotone. Charles WERNER

Charles WERNER, 63 years of age, of Peotone, a village employee, collapsed and died Monday on the sidewalk near his home. Death was reportedly due to a heart attack. He was enroute home from town when he collapsed. Born in Peotone township, April 1, 1899, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Andrew WERNER. He worked as a farm hand for a number of years and for the past five years had worked for the village as a truck driver. He was unmarried. Mr. WERNER was a member of the Peotone Sportsmen’s Club. Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Freida BARLOW of Manhattan; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, by three sisters and three brothers. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Fedde-Helfrich Funeral Home at Peotone with the Rev. Curtis Glick of the Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial was in the Peotone Cemetery. Pall-bearers were: Harold WERNER, Lewis WERNER, Donald BARLOW, Russell BARLOW, Hubert BETTENHAUSEN and Franklin WERNER.

Florence I. Werner, age 83 of Peotone, passed away Friday, March 3, 2006 at Miller Center in Kankakee, Illinois. She was born June 11, 1922 in Monee, to Edward and Anna (nee Depperman) Schannen. Florence was a homemaker. She also worked as a waitress at Peotone Snack Shop. She married the late Vernon J. Werner on September 27, 1941 in Monee, Illinois. She was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in North Peotone. She was also a member and Past President of Peotone American Legion Post 392 Auxiliary. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon (Alan) Dawson of Bradley; sister-in-law, Velma Werner of Peotone; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents; husband Vernon J. Werner in 1996; and two infant sons. Funeral Services will be held Monday, March 6, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s United Church of Christ. Rev. Bruce Salter is officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday, March 5, 2006 from 3:00 until 8:30 p.m. at Fedde-Helfrich Chapel and on Monday, March 6, 2006 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at St. John’s United Church of Christ. Mokena Woman is Called by Death – – Mrs. J. P. WERNER, for more than 30 years a resident of Mokena, passed away at her home in that village this morning about 8:30 o’clock. She had been an invalid for the past eight years, and two years was confined to her bed. The deceased was over 60 years of age. Mrs, Werner is survived by her husband, J. P. Werner, and two sisters, Mrs. SCHNIDERWORTH of Chicago, and Mrs. SCHIESS of Kipsilanti, N. D. The funeral will be held from the family home in Mokena on Sunday afternoon at 1 o’clock. Surviving are his wife, Dolores (Dolly) Rehberg of Peotone, whom he married on October 4, 1959; 2 sons, Ron (Terry) Westfall and Ryan Westfall; 1 daughter Debbie (Doug) Sabey; and 4 grandchildren, all of Peotone. 2 brothers, Carl (Bruce) Westfall and an infant brother, Ronald are deceased. Mr. Westfall was a member of Faith Community Church. He loved woodworking and enjoyed his 1926 Chevy.

Sumner B. WHITMORE

Sumner B. WHITMORE, aged 72 years, died at his home, 118 Cedar Slip, last evening at 5 o’clock. The deceased was one of the oldest and most respected citizens of the vicinity, having lived near Joliet for the past fifty-eight years. The greatest part of this time was spent on a farm southwest of the city near Channahon, but for several years Mr. Whitmore has been retired, making his home in this city since then. He leaves beside his wife, two children and three grandchildren, Leonard B. WHITMORE of this city, and Mrs. A. S. DEWITT of Chicago; two brothers, Edward of Pierce, Neb. and Austin of Channahon. The funeral will be held tomorrow morning, leaving the residence at 11 o’clock, going to Channahon where services will be conducted in the Channahon Church.

Caroline WIETTING

Mrs. Caroline WIETTING, 77 years old, a pioneer resident of Will county, died early Friday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John HEILAND, 712 Fourth avenue, Joliet. She had been in poor health for the last six months. The WIETTING family lived in the Monee neighborhood for something like fifty years before moving to Joliet seve years ago. Mr. WIETTING passed away about eight years ago. Mrs. WIETTING leaves a son, five daughters, ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren. The childrren are John WIETTING Blue Island, Mrs. William NIELAND, and Mrs. John HEILAND, Joliet, Mrs. Philip KLEMANN, Peotone, Mrs. Peter KLEMANN, Green Garden, and Mrs. Paul SANGMEISTER, Green Garden. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the Heiland home at 1:00 o’clock to the St. John’s Evang. church, North Peotone, at 2:30. Burial was in St. John’s cemetery.

Mrs. Sylvia WIGHTMAN

WIGHTMAN — At the advanced age of 83 years, 1 month, and 8 days, at the residence of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Horace SMITH, of Dupage, Mrs. Sylvia WIGHTMAN, wife of Jonah B. WIGHTMAN. Deceased was born, and married in the State of New York, and moved with her family to the State of Illinois in 1834; being thereby among the most early settlers of the state, anmd particularly of Will Co. She was one of those brave, heroic souls, that met and endured the hardships of pioneer life with true courage, and a cheerful spirit. The family moved into the Town of Wheatland when there was but one other family in the town. The dear departed was the mother of eight sons, and one daughter. Her husband, four sons, and Mrs. Smith (theit only daughter) survive her. Her duties as a neighbor, citizen, wife and mother have been faithfully discharged. Her pure, heroic spirit ever conspicious, in kindly words and deeds of unselfishness, has passed to the higher life, rich with the autumnal fruitage of its lengthened years; and though the form has faded from human vision and will mingle with its mother earth, the mother has left to cheer and bless those who remain an imperishable legacy of sunny memories that have been and will be a constant testimony that the world was benefited by her life. William Richard WILLIAMS

William Richard Williams died at Para, Brazil, September 25th, 1862. He was born at Lockport, Will Co., Illinois, March 23d, 1838, and consequently was in his twenty-fifth year at the time of his decease. About twelve years ago, he came with his parents to Ironton, and in our public schools received the greater part of his education. – Possessed of a rapid comprehension of what he studied, gifted with a strong memory, and unusual command of language he early attracted notice. At the age of twenty-one, he was admitted to the Bar of Lawrence county, and immediately entered upon the practice of law. In April 1861, he volunteered, under the first call of President Lincoln, in the war for the suppression of the great rebellion. He served five months as Captain of Artillery. He was appointed Consul to Para, January 1862, and soon after, took what proved to be a final leave of friends in Ironton. He reached Para in May, and entered upon his consular duties which he discharged with marked assiduity and ability. On the 15th of July last, he was married to Miss Potter, daughter of Wm. Potter, a resident of Para. About the 19th of September, Mr. Williams was seized with yellow fever which after an illness of a few days, proved mortal. We learn that his mind was unclouded to the very approach of death, and that in view of the solemn change, he made all necessary dispositions for it. The intelligence of his untimely departure caused a profound sensation of regret wherever he was known. The sympathy of the community is actively directed to his surviving relatives here.

Nancy Cass WILMORE

Over The Dark River — Death At The Remarkable Age Of 116 Years. — Sketch of “Auntie” Wilmore, Whose Life O’erlapped a Century — Dr. Dr. Damrosch and Drexel the Banker Pass Away.– Wimington, Ills., Feb. 16. — “Auntie Wilmore,” as she was familiarly called, or Nancy Cass WILMORE, as her real name is said to have been, died in this city Wednesday at the age of 116 years. She was undoubtedly the oldest person in this state, if not in the United States. Her early history was not clear to her until on her death-bed, when her whole life seemed to pass in review before her; and a person who was present wrote down her history as she related it. She was born about the year 1769, in North Carolina; her father Samuel CASS, then removed to Shakertown, Ky. Her mother’s maiden name was Sally WALES; she died at the age of 30, leaving nine children. Her father soon married Nettie TAYLOR, by whom he had seven children. Of the sixteen children all were boys except herself. Her father lived in Kentucky for eight or none years, and then moved to Alabama, though she remained in Kentucky , living with a family named ANDREWS, and married as her first husband a man named KEENEY.

When first known in Wilmington she was a widow. Here she married John WILMORE, who was a miller. His death, forty-five years ago, is recollected by many residents of this city. Both she and her husband were considered quite elderly people even at that time. She was always known as a very zealous and devoted church member, and claimed to have been converted at a wonderfully sensational camp-meeting, near Shakertown, Ky., when a mere child, and when hundreds fell prostrate in a spiritual trance. She joined the Presbyterian church under the pastorate of Rev. Mr. COOK, and afterward under the pastorate of Rev. J. G. PORTER; then took letters from that flock and joined the Methodist church, remaining an active member and constant church attendant ever since. She called herself a “Presbyterian- Methodist.”

Her last hours were remarkable. She could repeat many hymns and passages of Scripture, and although she never could sing before, she is said to have sang beautifully on her death-bed, and constantly gave utterance to such exclamations as these: “I did not know anyone could be so happy;” “these are my last hours, and they are my sweetest ones;” “I have always prayed to die in the triumphs of a living faith, but I never thought it would be so glorious.” Her last words were: “Not my will but Thine be done.” Her body, after being prepared for burial, was taken to the Methodist church, where it remained until Sunday afternoon, where there were union services. Her seat and the church altar were appropriately draped, and a number of Hymns and anthems which were her favorites were sung at her funeral. Several of her former pastors were present. The Way to Die.

Could we all pass from here to eternity with the same feeling of exuberance as did Mrs. Nancy Cass WILMORE. who died in Wilmington, Ill., last week, aged 116 years, it would be more easy to die than to live.

Says the Wilmington Review, in her obituary notice:

Her last hours were most remarkable. Edward WOLFF

Edward J. Wolff, 86, of rural Peotone, died Friday, February 14, 2003, at his home. Cremation rites were accorded. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. today at Beecher Amvet Hall. Rev. Curt Boyer will officiate. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Grant Park. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Kankakee Valley. Mr. Wolff was born Sept. 4, 1916 in Monee, the son of John and Christina Rahn Wolff. His wife, the former Marcella Lohmann, whom he married Sept. 24, 1944, at Zion Lutheran Church in Grant Park, died in 2000. Surviving are three sons and one daughter-in-law, Robert Wolff, Steven and Judy Wolff, all of Peotone, Michael Wolff of Colorado; one daughter, Diane Gardner of Colorado; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Pauline Pickens of Park Forest. Mr. Wolff was a retired farmer and a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Grant Park.

Mrs. Annie WOOD, Braidwood, Dies; Funeral Saturday Mrs. Annie WOOD, 78, died Wednesday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Edward BAUER, Custer Township, where she had lived for the past year. Death followed a short illness. Mrs. WOOD, born Feb. 26, 1882, in Scotland, was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James JOHNSTONE. She married William WOOD on June 5, 1903 and they moved to America in 1908, where they settled in Wesley Township. Mr. Wood died in 1942. Survivors include daughters, Mrs. Margaret BAUER of Custer Township, Mrs. Mary DUMAS, Bonfield, Mrs. Annie MAGURDER, Kankakee and Mrs. Janet SAUBERLI, Bonfield; sons, Charles, Thomas, Robert, John and Archie, all of Kankakee, Lewis of Momence and James of Bonfield. She is also survived by 30 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Maggie SHARPE of Scotland and a brother, William of Winnipeg, Canada. An infant daughter and a brother preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Patterson Funeral Home, Braidwood. Burial will be in Wesley Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. today.

William WOOD, 62, Dies At Hospital William WOOD, 62, farmer residing two miles west of the Warner Bridge on highways 113-N, died at 4:45 o’clock this morning in St. Mary hospital. He was removed there for treatment yesterday. Coroner Ed P. Madison will conduct an inquest. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 o’clock Sunday afternoon from the Deselm Methodist church with the Rev. Oscar Chinberg officiating and burial in Wesley cemetery in Will county. Born Oct. 30, 1879 at Ayrshire, Scotland, he was married June 5, 1903 to Annie JOHNSTON in Scotland and came to the U.S. in 1908, settling in Wesley township, Will county. Surviving are the widow, eleven sons and daughters, Mrs. Edward BAUER, Charles and Mrs. Edward DUMAS of Kankakee, James of Bradley, Louis and Mrs. Herman MAGRUDER of Momence, Pvt. Thomas of New Bern, N.C., Pvt. John of the Hawaiian Islands, Robert, Archie and Janette at home, a brother Archie in Leuark Shire, Scotland and sister Mrs. Janet MC ALPINE of Leuark Shire. The body is at the Phillips and Friday funeral home where friends may call Friday afternoon and evening. On Saturday the body will be removed to the residence where it will remain until services.

Henrietta WOODS

Mrs. Henrietta WOODS, daughter of Mrs. Adam MARTIN and sister of Mrs. William BROWN and the Misses Caroline, Florence and Alice MARTIN, died at her home on Singer hill in this place last Monday afternoon, August 28, after an illness of several months with consumption. The decedent and her husband were married less than a year ago at Sharon, Pa., and soon thereafter the young wife began to fail. Later her husband brought her here hoping that the home scenes and home folks might help to restore the wasting strength but the slight improvement was only fleeting and fell Death claimed the fair flower. The death is a particularly sad one and the sympathy of all goes out to the bereaved ones. The funeral occurred yesterday afternoon from the M.E. church and was very largely attended. Burial was given in the Brooks cemetery in Homer.
