Services were held last week for Christine Marie Bickel, 46, of Peotone. Mrs. Bickel died August 31, 2005 at her home. She was born May 3, 1959 in Des Moines, Iowa. She was a secretary. Mrs. Bickel is survived by a daughter, Melissa Bickel of Peotone; 2 sons, Andrew and Matthew Bickel, both of Peotone; her parents, Ignatius and Marie Scheetner Zielinski of Matteson; 2 brothers, Butch Zielinski of Plainfield and Michael Zielinski of Gurnee; 2 sisters, Kate Zielinski and Debbie Zielinski, both of Matteson; and special friend, Dub Austell of Peotone. The funeral was conducted September 2nd at Fedde-Helfrich Chapel in Peotone. The Rev. Jack McCormick officiated. Burial was in Peotone Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Vitas Hospice.

Lorraine BIDGOOD

Lorraine E. BIDGOOD (LOVSTAD) (nee BETTENHAUSEN) Age 81. Tuesday, May 18, 2004 at Morris Lincoln Nursing Home. Born in Green Garden Twp., IL on August 8, 1922 and a lifetime Joliet resident. Member of the Ladies Auxiliary Cantigny Post #367. Employed at Uniroyal Chemical at Elwood Ammunition Plant for 11 years; she retired from the Sherwood Inn in 1985 after 12 years of service. Preceded in death by her first husband, Robert LOVSTAD; parents, Ernest and Edna (nee WERNER) BETTENHAUSEN, three brothers, Hubert, Wayne and Wallace BETTENHAUSEN, one sister, Bernice LYNCH; two sisters-in-law, Eva Mae BETTENHAUSEN and Dorothy BETTENHAUSEN. Survived by her loving husband, Jack E. BIDGOOD, of Plainfield; two sons, Robert (Judy) LOVSTAD and Dennis (JoAnn) LOVSTAD both of Joliet; one daughter, Darlene (Dan) McCUE of Bristol, IL; stepchildren, Robert (Donna) BIDGOOD of Atlanta, GA, Marilyn (late Joseph) SCHALASKY of St. Petersburg Beach, FL and Donald (Liz) BIDGOOD of Indo, CA; six grandchildren, Stacey, Todd (Annie), Cristin, Joey, Alyssa and Brian; several great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Lois BETTENHAUSEN. Leo Frank Bieronski, 78, of Peotone, died Tuesday, March 2, 1999 at Rush Presbyterian in Chicago. Visitation will be from 10 am Saturday until the 2 pm service at Fedde-Helfrich Chapel, Peotone. The Rev. Allen Campbell will officiate. Cremation rites were accorded. Memorials may be made to the Peotone United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Corp and a lifetime member of Homewood Vfw. He was born on June 5, 1920 in Chicago Heights, the son of Walter and Anna Gluza Bieronski. Surviving are his wife, the former Helen Rathje, whom he married September 6, 1952 in Peotone; 1 son, Jet (Janice) Bieronski of Westmont; 2 daughters, Susan (Thomas) Fagan of Aurora; and Pamela (Scott) Freeman of New Lenox; 6 grandchildren; 1 brother, James (Millie) Bieronski of South Chicago Heights; 2 sisters, Nell Klendera of Round Lake Park and Helen Bilinski of Montrose, California. Deceased are 2 brothers, Walter and Frank. He was a member of Peotone United Methodist Church and belonged to the China Berma India Veterans Association, Chicago Basha.

Services were held Tuesday morning for Gloria BISHOP, 72, of Monee. Mrs BISHOP died 24 Oct 1998, at South Suburban Hospital in Hazel Crest. She was born 19 April 1926, in Monee, to Elmer and Margaret HOHMAN BUCHMEIER. She was a homemaker and retired in 1984 from Bimba Manufacturing after 18 years of service. She was a member of St Paul’s United Church of Christ in Monee. Mrs BISHOP is survived by her husband, Frank BISHOP, whom she married on 7 Feb 1946, in Chicago; two sons, Larry BISHOP of Monee and Rick (Diane) BISHOP of Park Forest; two grandchildren, Jennifer and Benjamin; a great-grandson, Sean; and a brother, Dean (Melverne) BUCHMEIER of Monee. Florence Bisping, (Bam) 95, of Peotone, died Sunday, February 23, 2003, at the Anchorage of Beecher. Visitation will be from 3p.m. Wednesday until the 7 p.m. services at the Fedde-Helfrich Chapel, Peotone. Rev. Barbara Lohrbach will officiate. Private burial services will be held Thursday at Skyline Memorial Park in Monee. Pallbearers will be Craig, Ryan and Steven Morrison, Michael, Andrew and Matthew Hasik, Martin and Karl Lindemann and Jacob Domagalla. Memorials may be made to the Anchorage of Beecher or to the Junior and Senior Youth Fellowships at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Peotone, where she was a member. Mrs. Bisping was employed 43 years before retiring from Remington Arms and Elco Company of University Park. She was born February 9, 1908, in Manhattan, the daughter of John and Anna Krohn Mundt. Her husband, Raymond (Mo) Bisping, whom she married Feb. 16, 1926, in Joliet, died in 1986. Surviving are 1 daughter, Lois Morrison of Peotone; 6 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great-grandchildren; 1 sister-in-law, Evelyn Mundt Berry of Peotone; 3 nieces and 2 nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. 2 sisters, 2 brothers, 4 sisters-in-law, 4 brothers-in-law, 1 son-in-law, Reese Morrison; 1 nephew, Marvin Bisping; and 1 great-grandson, Albert Lindemann are deceased. Services were held Tuesday morning for Gordon C BISPING, 82, of Monee. Mr BISPING died 27 Feb 1999 at Miller Healthcare Center in Kankakee. He was born 16 Aug 1916, in Kankakee, to Henry John and Bertha Elvera FLINT BISPING. He was a welding engineer, retired from Vogelmann’s Fabrication of Frankfort. He was a member of St Paul’s United Church of Christ in Monee and the American Welding Society. Mr BISPING is survived by his wife, Ruby JANSSEN BISPING, whom he married on 26 May 1935, in Valparaiso, IN; two sons, Robert (Henrietta) BISPING of Dyer, IN, and Bing (Deanna) BISPING of Monee; two daughters, Corinne (Ronald)BUTTS of Manhattan, and Ila Mae CROSS of Leesburg, FL; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Virgil BISPING of New Lenox and Daryll BISPING of Joliet; and a sister, Doralena MANN of St Anne. John F. Bisping Sr., 93, of Peotone, died Thursday, August 8, 2002, at Manorcare Health Services, Kankakee. He was born April 17, 1909, in rural Peotone, the son of Herman and Ida Moltenhauer Bisping. His wife, the former Margaret M. Curran, whom he married April 30, 1932, in Peotone, died December 26, 1988. Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, John Jr. and Bonnie Bisping of Peotone; two daughters and one son-in-law, Barbara Oliver and Phyllis and Roger Ullrich, all of Peotone; nine grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. One son-in-law, Kenneth Oliver; and one brother, Milford Bisping, are deceased. He was a member of the Will County Farm Bureau.

Thomas BISPING

Visitation for Thomas Bisping, 47, of Peotone, will be from 3 pm to 8 pm Tuesday at Fedde-Helfrich Funeral Home in Peotone. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am Wednesday at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Peotone. Interment will be in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood. Memorials may be made to Peotone American Legion Post 392, St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church or the Knights of Columbus. He died Saturday, November 4, 2006, at Riverside Medical Center. Mr. Bisping was born November 10, 1958, in Kankakee, the son of Gerald and Mary Bisping. He grew up in Peotone and attended Peotone schools from kindergarten through 9th grade. He graduated from St. Charles Borromeo Seminary High School in Lockport in 1977. He enlisted in the U.S. Army. After serving 3 years in Germany and Washington, D.C., he returned home and attended Loyola University and Northern Illinois University. In 1983, he received his degree in history and political science. While at niu, he was a member of the Army Reserve Officers Training Corps program and was commissioned a 2nd lieutenant. In 1986, he entered the Army Reserve, served in the Republic of Korea and Fort Lewis, Washington, and reached the rank of major. He later continued his education and earned his licensing for paralegal assistant. Mr. Bisping was the founder and president of the Northern Illinois University rotc Alumni Association. He was a charter member of the Korea Defense Veterans of America (kdva). He served as the MidStates north regional director of the kdva during its effort to get the Korea defense service medal (kdsm) created. He was responsible for coordinating lobbying efforts in many midwestern states. The kdsm was successfully created in 2002. He was also an active member of the American Legion Post 392, where he served as adjutant. He was a member of Amvets, vfw and the Knights of Columbus. He has had 4 articles published in military history magazines, was the winner of the 2003 U.S. Field Artillery Association essay contest and was the keynote speaker at the 2006 Peotone American Legion Memorial Day celebration. Surviving are his father of Peotone; one sister, Linda (Jim) Morgan of Peotone; one brother, Daniel (Diane) Bisping of Peotone; 3 nieces and 4 great-nephews. Deceased are his mother and grandparents, Arthur and Vera Bisping.

Wayne BISPING

Wayne BISPING, 84, of New Lenox, died Sunday, 14 Dec 1997, at St Joseph Medical Center. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Raymond and Patricia BISPING, and Ronald and Pamela BISPING; one daughter, Roxann BISPING; four grandsons, three granddaughters; two great-grandsons; two great- granddaughters; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Gordon and Ruby, Virgil and Marie, and Daryl and Margaret; and one sister Darlene MANN. He was born in Kankakee and lived in New Lenox the past 50 years. Deceased are his wife, the former Helen KNUPP (1984) and one son, Henry John BISPING in 1954. Employed at Blackson Chemical as a maintenance welder, he retired in 1970 after 20 years. He also was a pipefitter for local 422 for 18 years and member of Local 422 and the United Chemical Workers. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-9pm today at Kurtz Memorial Chapel in New Lenox, where services will be at 10am Wednesday. The Rev J Peter LOVELL will officiate. William A BLACK

Dr. William A. Black, 84, of 1508 S. Franklin St. in New Ulm, died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm. Mass of Christian burial is 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Ulm with burial in the Catholic Cemetery. Full military honors will be conducted at the cemetery by the New Ulm veterans organizations. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. The Knights of Columbus will pray the rosary at 6:30 p.m., and there will be a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Black of New Ulm; daughter and son-in- law, Mary and Dr. Hal Boyer of Louisville, Ky.; sons and daughters-in- law, William R. and Marcia Black of Parkesburg, Penn., Dr. James E. and Charlene Black of Eden Prairie, John M. and Kathryn Black of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., and Robert C. Black of Minneapolis; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Barbara Black on May 19, 1987; and a brother, John Black. He was born Jan. 25, 1917, in Coeurd”Alene, Idaho to Roy and Stella (Bartels) Black. He graduated high school at the age of 16. He attended the University of Idaho and the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah. He married Barbara Richards on Sept. 1, 1938, in Pocatello, Idaho. They resided in Philadelphia, Penn. where he attended Temple University Medical School. In June 1940, they moved to Rochester where he completed his residency training at the Mayo Clinic. On Nov. 13, 1944, he entered the U.S. Army and attained the rank of captain in the Army Medical Corps and served as Chief of Surgical Services. He was honorably discharged on Aug. 5, 1946. In June 1947 they moved to New Ulm. He was a physician and general surgeon at the Seifert Clinic in New Ulm and an original founder of the New Ulm Medical Clinic. In 1950 he was admitted to the American College of Surgeons and subsequently was appointed as Governor of the American College of Surgeons. He retired in 1988. On March 16, 1989, he married Ruth Fering in Indian Rocks Beach, Fla. and continued to live in New Ulm. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Ulm, American Legion Post 132 in New Ulm, and St. Patrick’s Council 076 Knights of Columbus in New Ulm.

Fatal Accident. — Sometime last week a lamentable accident occurred in Lockport. It seems that Mr. BOCK, of Wheatland, was driving through Norton & Co’s. lumber yard, when a train passed and frightened the horses, so they plunged violently and attempted to run. After a while Mr. Bock, who was standing in the wagon, endeavoring to control them, was thrown to the ground, and his injuries were so great that he was incapable of rising. It was found upon examination, that his spine was injured to such an extent as to paralyze his extremities, and a large portion of his body, and but slight hopes were then entertained of the unfortunate man’s recovery. Since then he has died, another victim of the rail-road system.

Visitation for Elmer J. Bockelman, 85, of Monee, will be from 3-8 p.m. today at the Fedde-Helfrich Chapel, Peotone, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday. Rev. He died suddenly Wednesday (April 26, 2006) at St. James Olympia Fields Hospital. Mr. Bockelman was a machinist at Wyman Gordon in Harvey for 50 years, retiring in 1986. He was born January 11, 1921, in Dolton, the son of William and Laura Grelck Bockelman. His wife, the former Rose Marie Wormsbecher, whom he married May 11, 1946, in Dolton, died in 1994. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Philippines and New Guinea in the combat engineers. He was a member of the Monee American Legion and the NrA. He loved the outdoors. Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Nancy Bockelman of Peotone; and two grandchildren, Laura and Amanda Bockelman of Peotone. Fred BODEN

Fred Arnold Boden, 91, of Bradley, formerly of Texas and Peotone, died Thursday, March 2, 2006, at Bradley Royale Nursing Home. Private family services will be held. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Chicago. Arrangements are by Hack Funeral Home, Beecher. Mr. Boden was vice president of a wire company. He was born October 4, 1914, in Chicago, the son of Fred Elmer and Nannie Larson Boden. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 55 years and enjoyed gardening and lapidary work. Surviving are his wife, the former LaVerne Hylander of Manteno; one son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Mary Boden of Anchorage, Alaska; one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Don Fette of Beecher; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Arthur L BOE

Arthur L. BOE, 44 years old, died today [8/21/43] at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John BOE, 104 Webster Street [Joliet, IL], after a lingering illness. Mr. BOE was manager of the fountain at Stillman’s drug store for more than 10 years. He was born in Lemont, March 9, 1899, and was brought to Joliet as a small boy when the family moved here. Besides the parents, he is survived by a daughter, Caryl Jean; two brothers, Ervin, a captain of the Joliet police department, and Edward, of Highland, Michigan; and two sisters Mrs. Francis DAHL, of Rockford, and Mrs. Gertrude STEVENS, of Joliet. The body was taken to the Harris funeral home where services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock. Burial will be at Saint Matthews Cemetery in Lemont.

Elizabeth (Eliza) BOLIN

Bolin – At the home of her son, William, in North Lockport, Tuesday morning, October 11, 1904, of the informities of age. Mrs. Eliza BOLIN aged 82 years, 9 months. Mrs. BOLIN was one of the pioneers of this section, having resided in Green Garden, Homer and Lockport townships in the county for sixty years and for more than twenty five years in North Lockport. She was the mother of four sons and three daughters. The daughters are Mrs. D. S. HOLDEN of Lockport, Mrs. Amos DODGE of Homer and Mrs. Stephen NEWBERRY, of Denver, Col. William is the only surviving son. The decendent also leaves a large number of grandchildren and great grandchildren. The funeral, conducted by Rev. H. BERRY, occurred from the home this afternoon at 1 o’clock and internment was in the Brooks cemetery in Homer. Note: The name of Elizabeth BOLIN’s spouse is unknown. It is believed that he died sometime between 1855 and 1860 in Green Garden Township.

Stella BOULDIN

Abilene, Kansas newspaper published Saturday, Feb. 17, 1945, edited as follows. Mrs. Charles P. BOULDIN. Stella BLAKE, daughter of Timothy and Caroline BLAKE, was born in Lockeport, Illinois , Nov. 4, 1859, and passed away on Feb. 9, 1945, at the family home in Abilene, at the age of 85 years. She came to Kansas with her parents in the spring of 1872 at the age of 13 years, and pioneered on a homestead in the Pleasant Valley neighborhood. On January 27, 1879, she was united in marriage to Charles P. BOULDIN. They established their home on a farm in Chapman township, known as West Branch, near Oakhill, Kansas, and lived there for 35 years. This union was dissolved by the death of her husband, Aug. 31, 1914. In March 1918, Mrs. BOULDIN moved to Abilene and established a home for her family at 812 North Kuney. Mrs. Bouldin is survived by her three daughters, Laura and Pearl BOULDIN, Cora Bouldin RECKARD of the home; her son Roy and his wife and her granddaughter Virginia of Eureka, Kansas; also her sister, Mrs. Mae BELLOWS of Woodward, Okla., and one brother of Oakhill, Kansas. Interment was beside her husband in the Rose Meron Cemetery at Oakhill (Clay County), Kansas.

Dr. A.W. and Mrs. BOWEN. Mrs. BOWEN was born in Herkimer Co. NY state Nov 2, 1809 and Dr. BOWEN was born in Berkshire, Mass. Feb 6, 1803. Dr. BOWEN early in life moved to Oneida Co.,NY and graduated at College of Physicians and Surgeons in Fairfield, NY in 1827. He married Mary C. SHOEMAKER Mar 1831, who died 4 days before him, both having passed the allotted “three score years and ten” of mans life. They came to IL in 1834, then little more than a prairie. March this year they celebrated golden wedding. Mrs. BOWEN died Sat. Nov 20 and was buried in Oakwood cemetery in Joliet. Dr. Bowen died Thursday the 24th and buried by wife. They had 4 children, all now gone. The youngest and best known here was Major Rodney S BOWEN of the 100 IL Vol. who was fatally injured in battle of Franklin Dec 1, 1864 and died two days later. Children, Miss Mary C and Rodney BOWEN will inherit grandfathers property.

Recent deaths: Ehren BRANDAU 24 years of age of Plainfield, formerly of Gooselake, passed away Thursday, February 1, 2001 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove. Born October 19, 1976 in Joliet, he was a son of George and Linda (WETHERHOLT)BRANDAU. He was raised and educated in Coal City, graduating from Coal City High School with the Class of 1994. After high school he was employed by Caterpillar Tractor for two years and most recently was employed as an iron worker apprentice though Iron Workers Union Local #444. Ehren is survived by his parents; a brother, Bryan; his girlfriend, Pamela GARFINKLE of Chicago; grandmothers, Merle WETHERHOLT of Louisiana and Helene BRANDAU of Lockport; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, John WETHERHOLT and Edwin BRANDAU. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 5, 2001 at 10 AM at the Faith Baptist Church in Gooselake. William F. BREIDERT; Age 87, of Frankfort born October 24, 1918 died February 12, 2006. William BROCKMAN

William C. BROCKMAN, 75, long active in Republican politics in Will county and an assistant Joliet township supervisor for the past 20 years, died Tuesday afternoon at his home, 301 Sherman St. Mr. BROCKMAN suffered a stroke about two years ago. A life-long resident of Will County, he was born in Green Garden township Aug 13, 1878 a son of the late Elizabeth and Henry BROCKMAN. At the age of four years, he moved to Joliet with his family and continued to make his home here since. At the age of 28 years, he was named a Joliet township tax collector and was one of the youngest men to be elected to that post. For almost 28 years, he operated a hotel in the Joliet loop area, retiring many years ago. Altho he retired from business then, he continued to remain active in politics until the time of his illness. At one time he sought the GOP nomination for sheriff. He was a committeeman in his precinct for many years. He served on a citizens committee that waged a campaign for free text books in the Joliet public grade school system about 35 years ago. For the past 20 years he was an assistant Joliet township supervisor and served on the Will County Board of supervisors and also the Will County Forest Preserve Board. His term would have expired in 1955. Currently he was on the judiciary committee and the committee to settle with the coroner. Prior to his illness, he served as chairman of such committees as judiciary, insurance and on the Forest Preserve Board was head of the committee on Forestry and Improvement. Mr. BROCKMAN was serving his third year as a member of the board of trustees of Silver Cross hospital. He was a county board representative. A charter member of St. John’s English Lutheran church, he served on the church board and was active in church affairs. On Oct 1, 1902, he married the former Clara THURM in Joliet. They were wed by the Rev. August SCHUESSLER. She survives. Besides his widow, Mr. Brockman is survided by two daughters: Marguerite now Mrs. John SCARTH of Mokena; and Hazel, now Mrs. Wilbur RAPSON of Joliet; and four sons: Elmer, Clarence, and Harold, all of Joliet; and Maynard of New Lenox; and eight grandchildren. The body is at the Blood and Grant Funeral home where friends may call after 7 p. m. this evening. Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 10 p.m. Thursday. At noon on Friday the body is to be moved to St. John’s English Lutheran church where it will lie in state until 2 p. m. when last rites will be conducted by the Rev. William J. BOLDT. Burial will be in Elmhurst cemetary.

Services were held Saturday morning for Edward W BROCKMILLER, 87, of Monee. Mr BROCKMILLER died 15 March 2000 at Rest Haven South nursing home in South Holland. He was born 25 March 1912, in Green Garden Township, a son of Wm C and Caroline HARMS BROCKMILLER. He was owner-operator of Brockmiller Grocery Store in Monee for 45 years and was a member of St Paul United CHurch of Christ in Monee. He was a former volunteer firefighter in Monee and served as Grand Marshall for Monee’s 125th anniversary in 1999. Mr BROCKMILLER is survived by a daughter, Vicki (David) SCHMIDT of Chicago Heights; three grandchildren, Joy BAKER of Chicago, and Bethany and Hillary SCHMIDT of Chicago Heights. He was preceded in death by his wife, Freeda O RAGAINS BROCKMILLER in 1984, who he married 5 June 1935 in Monee; his parents; and a brother, Harold, in 1985. The funeral was held 18 March at Fedde-Helfrich Chapel in Peotone. The Rev Dr Robert HURST officiated. Burial was in St Paul’s Cememtery in Monee. Death of H. G. Brown. — Another of our old citizens, Harry G. BROWN, died at his residence, near this city, on last Tuesday morning. He was an honorable man and a good citizen. His remains were followed to their final resting place by the Masonic Fraternity of the city, of which order he was a worthy member.

Horace Greely BROWN

A former bus driver and more recently a guard at the Stateville penitentiary, Horace G. BROWN, 58 years old, was found dead in bed last night at his apartment, 505 East Cass Street, with a bullet wound thru his forehead. A 22 caliber rifle was found beside the bed. Walter Gabel, who lives in the downstairs apartment, called the police. Sgt. William Kennedy and Patrolman Alex Davidson were sent to investigate and were met by Gabel who led them to the upstairs apartment where the body was found. Deputy Coroner Richard Coyne was notified and appeared on the scene. The body was taken to the Sonntag funeral home. An inquest will be conducted by Dr. E.A. Kingston, coroner, at 2 o’clock tomorrow afternoon at Sonntag’s. According to the report by BROWN’s widow, Gussie he had retired early. About 8:30 o’clock as she was talking on the telephone, she said that she heard her husband moving about his room. A few minutes later she heard the shot. It was then she called Bagel, she said. From all indications, he appeared normal when he retired, Mrs. BROWN stated, alto he had been exceedingly nervous recently. A native of Joliet, he had spent his entire life here. For 5 years he served as a motorman for the C. and J. street car company and for nine years was bus driver. During the past three months, he was a guard at the penitentiary. He held memebership in the Matteson Lodge, No. 175, A. F. & A. M., and the Amalgamated Association of Bus Drivers. Besides his widow, he is survived by his mother, Mrs. John BAKER; three brothers, George and Harry of Joliet; and James of Muskegon, Mich. The funeral, with the Matteson Lodge in charge, will be held Saturday monrning from the Sonntag funeral home at 1:20 o’clock to St. John’s English Lutheran Church at 2. The Rev. W. J. Boldt will officiate. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery.

Russell Derby BROWN, Age 82, at rest October 11, 2004 from cancer, at his home in Lemont, where he was a lifetime resident. Survived by his wife of 56 years Marie (nee KENDZIORA) one son, Alan (Karen) of Burr Ridge; two daughters, Sue (Joe) MOSEMAN, of Lewistown, MT and Cheryl (Joe) MAAS of Lisle; one sister, Ida KAMINSKI, of Lemont; and five grandchildren, Christina, Alyssa and Matthew BROWN and Nicolette and Samantha MAAS. Mr. Brown was a decorated veteran and POW in the U.S. Army in World War II. He was a member of Lemont VFW Post #5819 for many years and retired from Moffett Tech in 1985, where he was a welder. He was preceded in death by one sister, Caroline MEYER; one brother, Bud BROWN; and his parents; William and Lydia (nee MARTIN). Memorial graveside services Saturday, October 16 at 10:00 AM at Brown Family Cemetery on Logan Street in Lemont. Former Librarian, Succumbs At 82 Mrs. Rachel BRUCE, 82 years old, died this morning at her home, 317 Herkimer street, after a long illness. She was born on a farm in DuPage township March 20,1862. She is the grandaughter of Hiram WARREN, one of the seven families to settle in DuPage Township, 112 years ago. She was the great grandaughter of Gen. Josiah WARREN. She was librarian of the Joliet public library from 1889 to 1899. She is survived by one son, Thomas H., of Joliet, two brothers, Warren and Oscar, both of Missouri; three sisters, Miss Mary GIBBONS and Mrs. Clara KOPP both of Waterman; Mrs. Raymond EIGLE, DeKalb. There are also two grandchildren. Funeral services will be Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock at the Sonntag funeral home with the Rev. Ralph P. BLATT officiating. Burial will be at Barber’s Corner cemetery, DuPage Township.

World War II Army veteran. He was a practicing lawyer for 50 years. Former Corporation Council, City of Joliet, and former attorney for Joliet Junior College. Former first assistant state’s attorney. Retired senior member, Brumund and Jacobs Law Firm. Member and past president of the Will County Bar Association, member of the Illinois State Bar Association, recipient of the Distinguished Service Award from the John Marshall Law School in 1979. Active member of the Joliet Noon Lions Club, where he was the recipient of numerous service awards and honors, including: The Master Key; 50 Year Monarch; Foundation Fellow; Melvin Jones Award; and the 50 Year Perfect Attendance Award. He was also a Past President of the Lions Club and served many years on the Board of Directors. He was a member of Matteson Lodge #175 A.F. and A.M., Joliet, the Joliet Shrine Club, Joliet Elks Lodge #296 and the Joliet Moose Lodge #300. Services were held Tuesday morning for Peggy D. Buchmeier, 74 of Monee. She died April 30, 2004 at St. James Hospital in Chicago Heights. She was born October 11, 1929 in Glenwood. She was a homemaker and member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Monee. Mrs. Buchmeier is survived by her husband, Emil Buchmeier, Jr., whom she married on January 4, 1947 in Monee; 2 sons, Mike (Joan) Buchmeier of Beecher and Cliff (Kathy) Buchmeier of Monee; 4 daughters, Connie Brittingham of Crown Point, Indiana; Gail (John) Nantz of Momence; Laura (Bruce) Haliberg of Park Forest; and Kim (Jeff) Cann of Sheldon; 17 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Jack (Florence) Owens of Crete and Jerry Owens of Steger; and 2 sisters, Allie Lee Dillon and Mona (Rueben) Peters, both of Steger. She was preceded in death by her parents, Obe J. and Cecil Overturf Owens; 2 brothers, James and Robert Owens; and a grandson Mikey Buchmeier. The funeral was conducted May 4 at Fedde-Helfrich Chapel in Peotone. Burial was in St. Paul’s Cemetery in Monee. George W. BUCK, 32, of 812 Caton av., Joliet, died yesterday at the Braidwood Recreational club near Braidwood, apparently of a heart attack. He was vice president of Werden Buck company, Joliet dealer in building supplies, and a director of the National Bank of Joliet. He leaves his widow, Joan; three sons, George, Thomas, and Timothy, and his mother, Mrs. Mary BUCK. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Cathedral of St. Raymond, Joliet.

Grandma Burdick is Found Dead — Plainfield Pioneer Succumbs to Heart Disease; Corps Is Discovered Today. — Grandson Finds Body — Physician Summomed Declared She Had Been Dead for Hours — Was Seventy-five Years Old. Plainfield, March 12, — Mrs. Eliza BURDICK, 75 years old, was found dead in bed this morning at 8:30 o’clock by her grandson, Emmet WILLIS, who with a neighbor, Wesley EVANS, discovered the corpse after forcing an entrance into the home. Mrs. Burdick lived alome, and last evening when visited by her daughter, Mrs. A. O. WILLIS, seemed in her usual health. Dr. J. P. BROWNE, who was summoned to the home, said that death resulted from heart failure, and that the old lady had been dead several hours before the body was discovered. Deceased was the widow of Silas BURDICK, and had lived in Plainfield many years. She had been in feeble health for months. Five children survive, four sons, William and Jay BURDICK, of Chicago, Harry BURDICK, of Mexico, Elmer BURDICK, of New York City, and the daughter, Mrs. Willis, who resides in Plainfield. No arrangements have been made for the Funeral.

Thomas BURNS

Thomas BURNS, 70 years old, veteran employee of the Illinois Steel Company and a resident of Joliet more than 35 years, died this morning at his home 107 Seeser Street following three weeks illness. He was born in Ireland and came to America as a young man, making his home in Joliet. He was pensioned from the Illinois Steel company several years ago, after working at the mill more than 30 years. Surviving him are his widow,(Mary E. nee MONAHAN) two sons, Hugh and Thomas, two daughters Mrs. George WISE, and Mrs. J. HILL of Joliet, 19 grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Anna KELLY. He was a member of the Holy Name Society of St. Patrick Church, and of the Modern Woodmen of America.

Byron B BURTON

A Former Joliet Resident Dies in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Byron B. BURTON departed this life at his home in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Nov. 7, 1893, in the 69th year of his age. The deceased was born in Watertown, Jefferson county, N. Y., May 1, 1825. On September 19, 1850, he was married to ann Amanda INGALLS, of Cape Vincent, N. Y., and in the spring of 1851 the young couple came west and settled in Joliet. Mr. Burton continued to reside in this city until July, 1892, when he moved to Milwaukee and there opened the Wonderland museum. His death was caused by pneumonia. His wife departed this life about fifteen years ago. He leaves to mourn his loss many friends besides six children, Fred F., who resides in Joliet; Ward A. and Byron B., Jr., of Chicago and Frank A. and Dow E., of Milwaukee.

George BURTON

Career Ended. — A short and inglorious career was that of George BURTON, eldest son of B. B. BURTON of this city. The young man was born in this city, and from early childhood evinced an uncontrollable desire to commit petty thievery, for which he at numerous times received full punishment at the bar of justice. About a week since Mr. Burton received a telegram from his son stating that he had been shot and mortally wounded, and hastened to his assistance. It seems that in company with two other young fellows Burton attempted to burglarize a house in Williamsburg, Ky. They were surprised in the act and Burton shot through the lungs with a 44 calibre ball, producing a mortal wound. His comrades were captured and sentenced to the penitentiary. The body of young Burton was received in this city last Thursday morning, and deposited in Oakwood cemetery the same day.

Harriet COOL BURVILLE

Crete has once again suffered the loss of one of her pioneers in the death of Mrs. Harriet COOL BURVILLE. Saturday, October 5, 1918. She was born in Bremen Township, now Midlothian, near Blue Island, June 9, 1848, making her 70 years, 3 months and 26 days old. Nov. 17, 1870 she was united in marriage to Lorenzo D. BURVILLE, who preceded her in death but three weeks. To them were born one daughter, Annie J. (Mrs. Frank MINARD) and three sons, Benjamin R. of Edmond, Okla; Hiran Dean and Charles M. of Crete. Mrs. Burville had been a woman of sterling character and a great worker for good in the community in which she lived. She became a member of the Crete Congregational Church Jan. 3, 1891 and served as treasurer during the years of 1898 and 1899. For many years she taught in the Sunday School, was an active member of the Ladies Aid for over thirty years, both as a member and as an officer. She belonged to Hazel Chapter of O.E.S. of Crete. Serving a term as worthy matron, and to the Womens Club of Crete. Only a year ago she organzied a My America League among the junior girls for Belgain relief work and gave it up only when her health failed in February last, when she suffered a severe attack of pneumonia. She was the children’s friend and they were always welcome at her home, as were all her friends. Besides her immediate family she will be greatly missed by a sister Julia C. COOL of Blue Island; Minerva COOL (Mrs. Harry MORRIS) of Chicago Heights, to whom she has acted in the capacity of mother since infancy; 15 grandchildren and one great-grand daughter, and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Services were from the home Monday afternoon to the Congreational Church. Thence by auto to Mount Greenwood for interment. Rev. E.A. HARRIS officiated assisted by the O.E.S. of Crete. The pallbearers were her two sons Hiram Dean and Charles BURVILLE, her grandson Loren MINARD and Harry Morris, Frank MINARD and Sam POWERS.

Lorenzo D BURVILLE

Lorenzo BURVILLE was born in Hinkley, OH on January 29, 1844 and died at his home in Crete on September 14, 1918, aged 74 years 7 months and 16 days. He came to Crete with his parents when 9 years of age and settled on what is known as the Burville homestead, on Burville Road, one and one-half miles south-east of town. November 17, 1870, he was united in marriage to Miss Harriet COOL of Blue Island. To them were born one daughter, Mrs. Frank MINARDand three sons, Ben of Edmond, Okla.; Dean of South Bend, Ind.; and Charles who lives on the old homestead. Seven and one-half years ago they moved from the village and have since made their home at the corner of Columbia and First Streets. He is survived by his widow, four children, fifteen grandchildren and one great-grand daugher. Funeral services were from the home to the Congregational Church Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock. Interment was at Mount Greenwood. Rev. E.A. HARRIS officiated. The pallbearers were his three sons, Ben, Dean and Charles, Frank MINARD, Harry MORRIS and Dell TILLOTSON.

Lorenzo D. BURVILLE — A History Past And Present Of Will County Lorenzo D. Burville, who resides upon the home fram in Crete township, upon which he was reared, was born in Medina County, Ohio, January 29, 1844, but since 1855 has lived upon the old family homestead on Section 16. His father, Reuben Burville, was a native of the state of New York and a son of William Burville, who came from Holland to this country and settled in the Empire state, although it was then numbered among the colonial possessions of Great Britain. He was a farmer by occupation and at the time the colonies made the attempt to throw off the yoke of British oppression he joined the Continental Army and assisted in winning independence for the nation. His son, Reuben Burville, came to Illinois with his family in 1855. He was a soldier of the war of 1812 and followed farming in New York. Following his removal to the middle west he located on section 16, Crete Township, Will County, where he secured seventy acres of land. He was an enterprising farmer and won a goodly measure of success in his business dealings. In politics he was a democrat. He married Lucretia BABCOCK, who was born in the state of New York in 1806, and they were married while still residents of the cast. Mr. Burville died in 1865 and his wife passed in 1874. They were the parents of thirteen children, of whom five reached adult age: Ann Eliza, the widow of James GRAHAM, who was a farmer of Iowa; Prudence, who is the widow of Daniel SULLIVAN and resides at Auburn Park, a suburb of Chicago; Laura D., who married Erasmus P. DEAN, but both are now deceased; Lorenzo D. of this review; Helen, the deceased wife of Hiram GILSON; and Eurette and Frances who died in childhood. The father of this family was twice married and by his first union had three children, of whom one is living, Catherine, the widow of Lorenzo TILLOTTSON. Mrs. Burville was also married twice and by her first marriage had a daughter, Clarinda, who is now the wido of Ulysses MERRICK. Lorenzo D. Burville was a yough of eleven years when he accompanied his parents on their removal to Illinois and he was reared to farm life, while in the district schools he acquired his education. He has always remained on the old homestead on section 16, Crete Township, and since it came into his possession he has extended its boundaries by the purchase of an additional tract of thirty-five acres. He has a comfortable home in the midst of buildings for the shelter of grain and stock and in the care of management of his property he displays practical methods that result advantageously. On the 17th of November, 1870, Mr. Burville was united in marriage to Miss Harriet COOL, who was born in the town of Bremen, now Tinely Park, Illinois, in 1848, and is a daughter of Benjamin and Jane (NOBLES) COOL, the former a native of New York and the latter of Pennsylvania. Alexander NOBLES, grandfather of Mrs. Burville, locating at Chicago in 1835, conducted one of the few stores then in the frontier village. Mr. Cool was a farmer by occupation and owned and operated land near Blue Island. He was justice of peace in Bremen township, Cook County for forty years. He died in 1896, at the age of seventy-six years, while his wife passed away in 1874 at the age of forty-five years. They had six children: Mrs. Burville; Nelson A., a coal merchant of Blue Island; Edwin W., who is now a guard and was formerly a baliff in the Cook County jail and resides at Blue Island; Caroline J., who died at the age of four years; and Julia, the wife of Frederick FERRERS, a farmer of the town of Bremen. The home of Mr. and Mrs. Burville was blessed with a daughter and three sons: Annie J., now the wife of Franklin B. MINARD; Benjamin R., a farmer of Oklahoma; Hiram D., a mechanic of Laporte, Indiana; and Charles, who is upon the home farm. Another member of the household is their niece, Minerva COOL, who has made her home with Mr. and Mrs. Burville since eleven months old and is now a young lady. Mr and Mrs. Burville also have six grandchildren. Mrs. Burville belongs to the Congregational Church, to the Ladies Aid Society and the Order of the Eastern Star. In politics Mr. Burville is a democrat but has never been an aspirant for office, as he has preferred to give his undivided time and attention to his business affairs. He has lived the quiet but honorable life of a farmer and has now a valuable proeprty which gives him a good income. Robert E BUSZ

Services were held Saturday, January 17 for Robert E. Busz, 84 of rural Peotone. Mr. Busz died January 14, 2004 at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee. Born October 6, 1919 in Danforth, he was a retired farmer, member of Immanuel United Church of Christ in Peotone and Will County Farm Bureau and was dedicated to farming. He was an avid gardner, card player and sports fan. Mr. Busz is survived by his wife, Delores Palso Busz, whom he married on November 12, 1944 at Immanuel United Church of Christ with the Rev. E.H. Plassman officiating; a son, David (Terri) Busz of Peotone; 2 daughters, Judy Busz of Peotone and Barbara (Jerry) Sennholtz of Peotone; 3 grandchildren, Brent Sennholtz, Corey Sennholtz and Danielle Busz; and great grandson, Mason Lee. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Flossie Sirois Busz and a sister, Doraine Irwin Vallow. The funeral was conducted at Fedde-Helfrich Chapel in Peotone. Rev. William Riegle officiated and burial was in Peotone Cemetery. Pallbearers were Brent Sennholtz, Corey Sennholtz, Rodger Koehn, Earl Schroeder, Mike Russell and Ronald Artman. Honorary pallbearers were Vernon Dubbert, George Flood, LaVerne Geiss and Hans Slingerland. Memorials may be made to Immanuel United Church of Christ.

Laura G BYFORD

Laura G. BYFORD Age 86 of DeKalb, IL, died on Saturday, January 31, 2004 in the Kishwaukee Community Hospital DeKalb. Born on April 12, 1917 in Joliet, IL, she was the daughter of John and Mary (HOFMAN) WEBER.. Laura was married to the late Herbert T. BYFORD on January 10, 1937 in Manhattan, IL. Laura has been living in DeKalb for four years moving here from Monee, IL. Laura was a member of the United Methodist Church of Peotone, IL; she also was a member of the Eastern Will County Senior Center. Laura was known for her Quilt Top Covers, she loved reading, cross word puzzles, baking, the Chicago Cubs, and she adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include sons, Kenneth E. (Nancy) BYFORD of TN, Daniel L. (Toni) BYFORD of DeKalb; grandchildren, Susan (David) JONES, Kenneth E. (Mary Ellen) BYFORD Jr., Michael (Lisa) BYFORD, Cindy (Brian) KOZUMPLICK; great-grandchildren, Katie BYFORD, Kevin and Kurt BYFORD, Zak KOZUMPLICK. Preceded in death by parents; husband, Herbert; infant sister, Elsie WEBER; infant brothers, Elmer and John; and brothers, Harold and Lawrence. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2004 at 7:30 p.m. in the Ronan-Moore-Finch Funeral Home with Pastor E. George Krause officiating. Burial will be in the Samsville Ebenezer United Methodist Cemetery on Friday, February 6, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2004 at 4:00 p.m. until the time of the service in the funeral home.
