Violet KRAPF CADORETTE Age 87, of Jacksonville, Florida, died Monday, December 3, 2001 at Northern Illinois Medical Center in McHenry. She was born on November 14, 1914 in Green Garden, Illinois to Charles and Amanda (BERGMEIER) KRAPF. In January of 1959, she married Raymond J. CADORETTE. Survivors include her children Donald (Carol) CADORETTE of Boston, Ginger (Ray) HARRIS of Jacksonville, FL, Rose Mary (George) SMITH of Boston, Jean O’CONNELL of Jacksonville and Reene (Joe) ROSZKOWSKI of Boston, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her sister Lorraine HENELY of Wonder Lake, sisters-in-law Orpha KRAPF of Springfield, Marian KRAPF of Monee and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her step-mother, her sons Ray Jr. and Paul, her brothers, Vincent, Floyd, Roy and Wayne Krapf and a sister, Bernice PEPLOW. Visitation will be Saturday from 1 PM until the 4 PM service at Colonial Funeral Home, 591 Ridgeview Dr. (corner of Bull Valley Rd.) McHenry, with Rev. Thomas M. HARDWICK officiating. Killed. — David CADY, aged fifteen years, a son of H. CADY, of this city, was killed at the St. Louis railroad depot on last Friday evening. He attempted to pass between two cars while the train was being coupled, and was crushed to death.

Francis CALAHAN

Francis C. CALAHAN, Sr., 74 years old, a life-long resident of Joliet township, died this morning at St. Joseph’s hospital after an illness of three weeks. For the past several years he lived at 111 Cora Street. He was born on a farm in Joliet township and lived in the country thru all his active life, retiring to the city when failing health compelled him to give up farming. He is survived by four sons and two daughters, all of Joliet: Mrs. Ellen MCLAREN, J. Francis, Edward M., Peter W., and Joseph H. CALAHAN, and Mrs. Irene MCMASTERS, and by 13 grandchildren. The funeral will be from the Fred C. Dames parlors at 9 o’clock Wednesday morning to St. Raymond’s church at 9:30 o’clock.

Mrs. Mary CALAHAN succumbs at 71; Rites Wednesday Mrs. Mary C. CALAHAN; 71 years old, wife of Francis CALAHAN, died Sunday at her home, 111 Cora Street, after a lingering illness. Mrs. CALAHAN is survived by her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Nell MCLAREN and Mrs. Irene MCMASTERS, of Joliet; four sons, Frank,Edward, Peter, and Joseph, all of Joliet; one sister, Mrs. Catherine QUINLIVAN, of Chicago; two brothers, Frank and Owney BRADY, of Chicago, and 12 grandchildren. The body was taken to the Fred C. Dames funeral parlors and later taken to the home, from where the funeral will be held Wednesday morning at 10 o’clock in St. Raymond’s Catholic Church at 10:30 o’clock. Burial will be at Woodlawn Memorial Cemetery. Mrs. CALAHAN was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society of St. Raymond’s church and of the Royal Neighbors of America.

James T CALAHAN

CALAHAN Funeral Rites Tomorrow Funeral services will be held tomorrow morning for James CALAHAN, 68 years old, 111 South Eastern avenue, who fell or jumped from the McDonough street bridge into the Desplaines river yesterday. Services will be held from the Sonntag funeral home, 415 North Herkimer street, at 9 o’clock to St. Patrick’s church at 9:30. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet cemetery, Wilmington. Mr. CALAHAN is survived by his widow, Catherine; two sons, James and Joseph; two step-sons, Thomas and John MCMASTERS; a step daughter, Mrs. A. SCHUTTEN, and a brother, Francis. His body was recovered after 45 minutes in the water. Members of the crew of the tug, Patricia Lou Warner, removed the body from the water opposite the government moorings on Railroad Street, half a mile from the point where he went to his death. His cap and coat were found on the bridge. An inquest into his death will be held today.

Katherine CALLAHAN

Mrs. CALLAHAN died today at her home Mrs. Katherine CALLAHAN wife of James CALLAHAN, died at her home this morning, 505 South DesPlaines street, at 4:20 o’clock. A complication of diseases caused her death. She was 38 years old. Mrs. CALLAHAN was a member of the Order of the White Cross of this city and was well known. Besides her husband; three sons, James, John, and Joseph, and three brothers, Stephen,John, and Patrick CAVENAUGH survive her. The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock from the late’s home to St. Mary’s church. The interment will take place in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.

Private services were held for Garry C CAMPBELL, 66, of Crete. Mr CAMPBELL died 19 Feb 2000, at Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey. He was born 27 Dec 1933, in Paonia, CO. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from University of Northern Colorado. He was a history teacher and head baseball coach at Crete-Monee High School, where he had been employed since 1958. Mr CAMPBELL is survived by his wife, Kathryn HERRMANN CAMPBELL, who he marreid on 21 Aug 1960, in Monee; two daughters, Lanae (Gary) MOLINE, or Newtown, CT; and Arlyne (Marty) BEEDLE of Bartlett; two grandchildren, Abigail and Janel BEEDLE; his mother, Bertha Mae CAMPBELL of Hotchkiss CO; and a sister, Sharon (Michael) KELLEY, of Ahola OR. Memorials may be made to the Nativity Fund at St Paul’s United Church of Christ in Monee. Arrangements were handled by Care Memorial of Illinois.

Anna Cann, 84, of Peotone, died today, July 3, 2002, at the Anchorage of Beecher Nursing Home. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Saturday until the 11 a.m. services at the Fedde-Helfrich Chapel, Peotone. Burial will be in Wilton Center Cemetery, Manhattan. Pallbearers will be Lyle and Tom Carstens, Robert and Charles Schuler, Pete White, Jeff and Mark Crumrine and Robert Johnson. Memorials may be made to Immanuel United Church of Christ, where she was a member. Mrs. Cann was a retired bank teller from Peotone Bank and Trust. She was born January 20, 1918, in Peotone, the daughter of Olof and Alma Karlson Johnson. Her husbands, Wallace Giles, Fred Carstens and Howard Cann, are deceased. Surviving are two stepsons and step-daughters-in-law, Lyle and Bonnie Carstens of Peotone, Allen and Lois Carstens of Tucson, Arizona; one daughter-in-law, Judy Giles of Peotone; two grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Helen Stevens of Elon, North Carolina; and two sisters-in-law, Hazel Johnson of New Lenox and The../../../resa Johnson of Bradley. Virginia B. Cann, 87, of the Bickford House in Bourbonnais, formerly of rural Peotone, died Monday, October 30, 2006, at home. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Fedde-Helfrich Chapel, Peotone, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday. Rev. Jonathan Krogh will officiate. Burial will be in Peotone Cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Lehnert, Dale McMahan, Chad Heldt, Wallace and Dean Sammy, and Brian Cann. Memorials may be made to the First United Presbyterian Church of Peotone or Helping Hands. Mrs. Cann was a homemaker. She was born March 9, 1919, in Gary, Indiana, the daughter of Wallace and Minnie Kietzman Cox. Her husband, Ray J. Cann, whom she married June 24, 1939, in Joliet, died in 1990. She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Peotone, where she was a former Elder and Deacon. She was a member of Helping Hands, the Kankakee Needle Workers Guild, and the Womens Association at her church. She was a past superintendent of the Will County Fair. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Norma and Lyle Lehnert of Grant Park; 3 grandchildren, Karla (Dale) McMahan, David (Shelly) Lehnert, Melissa (Chad) Heldt, all of Grant Park; 7 great-grandchildren, Erin and Kaitlyn McMahan, Kaleb and Hayden Lehnert, Dava and Kodi Knight, and Rylan Heldt; one sister and brother-in-law, Vivian and George Sammy of Crete; and numerous nieces and nephews. Deceased are her parents and two brothers, Wallace Cox Jr. and Howard Cox.

Howard CANNON

Howard CANNON Age 54, of Ottawa, formerly of Joliet, died Wednesday morning, November 27, 2002 at home. Funeral Services will be at 11 AM on Monday, December 2 in the Mueller Funeral Home in Ottawa. Burial will be in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood where military rites will be accorded. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 PM on Sunday at the funeral home. Mr. cannon was born on April 17, 1948 in Shawano, Wisconsin to Howard and Fran (Miller) CANNON. He was an Army veteran of Vietnam. He married Bernice (HEISNER) HELENHOUSE on July 30, 2002 in Ottawa. He was active in the New Life Fellowship, and the First United Methodist Church in Ottawa. Mr. Cannon was a member of the Ottawa Moose Lodge #960, and the V.F.W. He is survived by his wife, Bernice; his step mother, Alice Schuyler; six step children; two sisters; five brothers; and five step brothers. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society or the donor’s choice.

Earl Cantone, 69, of rural Peotone, died suddenly Tuesday, October 14, 2003, at his home. Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. Thursday at the Fedde-Helfrich Chapel, Peotone. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Peotone. Father Michael Ginter will officiate. Burial will be in the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood. Pallbearers will be Michael, Anthony, Guy, Paul and Dean Cantone and Thomas Kuzma. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons. Memorials may be made to the Liver Foundation for Kids or to the Peotone Fire Protection District. Mr. Cantone was currently working for the Will County Sheriff’s Office as a court security officer for River Valley Justice Center. He was a former Illinois state trooper, former Illinois Secretary of State assistant superintendent and a former Peotone police officer. He was born December 1, 1933, in Chicago, the son of Louis Sr. and Theresa Balzano Cantone. His parents are deceased. Surviving are 5 sons and daughters-in-law, Michael (Karen) Cantone, Anthony (Karen) Cantone, Guy (Barbara) Cantone, Paul (Jodi) Cantone, all of Peotone, Dean (Melanie) Cantone of Lemont; 2 daughters and one son-in-law, Carol Cantone and Andrea (Thomas) Kuzma, all of Peotone; grandchildren, Kyle, Chad and Ashley Cantone, David Cantone, Rachel (Martin) Eglar, Aimee and Meggen Cantone, Jackie, Priscilla and Courtney Cantone, Dominique Cantone, Vincent, Gemma and Joey Cantone and Andi and A.J. Mr. Cantone served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was on the Eastern Will County Senior Services Board of Directors, a member of the Ridgewood Cycle Association and trustee and secretary of the Board of Trustees of the Peotone Fire Protection District since 1997.

Marvin A. CAPPEL, 82, of Herscher, formerly of Tinely Park, died Friday, November 5, 2004, at Silver Cross Hospital in Joliet. Visitation will be from 3-9 p.m. Monday at Kankakee Chapel of the Schaffeler Funeral Homes, and from 10 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Herscher, until the 11:00 a.m. services. Pastor Mark WENSEL will officiate. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Herscher. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Herscher, where he was a member. Mr.. CAPPEL and his wife farmed in Frankfort, Tinely Park area until they moved to Herscher in the late 1970s. He was born May 11, 1922 in Mokena, the son of Albert and Clara YUNKER CAPPEL. He spent his boyhood living with his aunt and uncle, Emma and Emil CAPPEL, on a farm in Mokena. He lived in Mokena until his marriage. His wife, the former Mildred VOGT, whom he married September 30, 1944 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Country Club Hills, died May 11, 1997. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Ron HATTENDORF of Green Garden, Monee; one son and daughter-in-law, Dean and Connie CAPPEL of Bourbounais, one brother and sister-in-law, Wesley and Toots CAPPEL of Mokena; grandchildren Renee HATTENDORF and her fiance, Steve BRAMMER Rachel HATTENDORF, Jason and Meg CAPPEL, Jill MAJIER. Amber and Mathew CAPPEL, and great-grandchildren, Joy, Zeke, and Ben CAPPEL. His parents; one daughter Dawn CAPPEL; one great- granddaughter, Darby CAPPEL; and one brother, Harold CAPPEL, are deceased. James Carroll, aged 76 years, died this morning at 2 o’clock at his home in Spencer, after an illness of several days. He is survived by his wife, a sister, Mrs. Owen DONAHUE, of Emmetsburg, Iowa, and one brother, Richard Carroll, of this city. The deceased had beena resident of Spencer for the past twenty-eight years. The funeral will be held from the home Wednesday morning at 8:15 o’clock to St. Mary’s church, this city, at 10 o’clock. Survived by son, Bruce Carstens of Peotone; daughter, Debbie (Don) Werner of Manhattan; two grandchildren, Brad and Jeremy Werner; brother, Bobby (Betty) Ebsen of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; and sister-in-law, Marilyn Ebsen of Manteno. Preceded in death by parents; husband, Howard “Tuffy” Carstens in 2000; sister, Irene Zaffino; and brother, George “Barney” Ebsen. Proud grandfather of five and great- grandfather of eight. Lester received his degree in Agriculture from University of Illinois in 1933 and his employment was always associated with agriculture. These included sales for Will-DuPage Service Co. and Surge Milker dealership. An original board member of Lincoln-Way High School where he served for 13 years. Other Manhattan community service included volunteer fireman, election judge, and board membership of Manhattan Grade School, United Church of Christ, and United Methodist Church. A memorial service was held at Oakdale, MN, where Lester had lived for the past five years. An Illinois service is planned for a future date. Private interment will be in Manhattan Center Cemetery.

Services were held last week for Viola H CASE, 87, of Oakdale MN, formerly of Manhattan. Mrs CASE died 2 June 2000. She was born in Manhattan, a daughter of William and Amelia HEISNER. She was a homemaker, active in Will Co Home Bureau as a Charter Member, Manhattan Methodist Church, and a volunteer at Silver Cross Hospital. Mrs CASE is survived by her husband of 66 years, Lester; children Marvin, Kenneth, Ann, Gordon, and JoAnn (Glenn) HUTCHINSON; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Esther GILL and Lorene (Verdi) SALEMA; and two brothers Wilbur (Pearl) HEISNER, and Melvin (Esther) HEISNER. She was preceded in death by a sister Loretta GILL, and a brother Robert HEISNER. A memorial service was held July 14 at United Methodist Church, Manhattan. Edward “Willie” CHESNUT

Street Car Accident Willie CHESNUT, a boy aged 7 years, was run over and probably fatally injured by a street car, near the rolling mill schoolhouse, at 11 o’clock yesterday. The lad was standing near the outside rail facing south, watching the men grading Collins street. As the car approached from the north he stepped backward without looking around, directly between the rails, probably thinking he was moving off the track. The driver, Geo. Harter, saw the boy just before he was struck and yelled, but before the car could be checked he was knocked down, both wheels passing over him. Dr. Campbell expresses the belief that the boy will die. A rigid examination of the facts of the case will doubtless be made.

Under the Wheels, The first fatal accident recorded since the construction of the street car line in this city occurred last Wednesday noon on north Collins Street. A little boy named CHESNUT aged seven years was playing in the road on the line of the track, as too many are allowed to do in that locality from daylight to dark, when a street car coming from the north run him down. The horses struck him, knocking him down and the wheels of the car ran over his breast and head, inflicting injuries that caused his death the Friday following. It is said that the driver called out just before the horses struck him, but too late to save the little fellow. In this particular case the driver might have been blameless, but judging from the general carelessness displayed in running the cars as regards the accommodation of passengers, not to speak of the safety of pedestrians and others traversing the streets, a little healthy remonstrance from the proper officers in a general way would not be out of place.

Willie CHESNUT, aged 7 years, was run over by the street cars about 11 o’clock to-day. He was watching some workmen grading Collins street, near the Rolling-Mill school-house, and had stood with his back towards the prison. As the car approached from that way he stepped backwards from the outside of the track to the inside. The driver helloed, and it frightened him so that he could not get out of the way. The whiffle-tree struck him, knocking him under the wheels. The forward wheel ran diagonally across his breast and the second wheel ran over the left side of his head, shaving off the ear, half of the scalp, and also cutting his right hand severely. Dr. M. B. Campbell is the attending physician and says the boy cannot live, although the skull is not fractured. Geo. Harter was the driver of the car and is one of the oldest drivers on the road, and counted as one of the most careful. Bystanders who saw the accident say that if he was to blame at all it was for not giving the warning in time.

Little Willie CHESNUT, the boy who was run over day before yesterday by a street car, near the rolling mills, died last night at a quarter after ten from the injuries he received at that time. The coroner’s jury visited the body to-day at noon and will meet this evening for deliberation and to return a verdict. The boy was buried this afternoon.

Mrs. Ellen Chidsey Succumbs at 87 Mrs. Ellen J. Chidsey, 87 years old, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. May Weil, 315 Iowa Avenue, early this morning after a lingering illness. She was the wife of the late John Chidsey. Surviving are three sons, William, Isaac, and John Jr., two daughters, Mrs. May Weil and Mrs. Richard Burrill; one sister, Mrs. Edward Donahoe, of Wilmington, and ten grandchildren. Once again it becomes our duty to chronicle the demise of one of Jackson’s life-long citizens, Mrs Nancy M. CHRISTENSON, who was born 53 years and 6 months since on the farm which has all her life been her home. Mrs. CHRISTENSEN was for many years one of our best school teachers, and many of those who are now teaching in our schools were among Miss HEMPHILL’s pupils in years past. The funeral services were held at the residence Wednesday, Rev. W. H. STROUT officiating. Despite the almost impassable condition of the roads a large concourse of friends and neighbors gathered to render the last tribute of respect to the deceased and to attest sympathy with the bereaved husband and sister, who with the four brothers are all that are left of Grandfather HEMPHILL’s family.

Joseph CLARK

Killed By A Convict. — Joseph CLARK, Deputy Warden in the penitentiary, a few days ago was attacked by a prisoner whom he was about to punish for some offence, and knocked down with a stone. The prisoner then siezed his revolver and fired several shots at Clark missing him. He recovered his consciousness and grappled with the prisoner again got possession of his pistol and aimed a shot at his ferocious antagonist’s head but the latter threw up his arm which received the contents. Assistance came then and the prisoner was secured and his wound attended to. Clark’s head received a severe cut from the stone threw by the prisoner, but he continued to attend to the duties of his office, complaining at times of a queer sensation in his head until Sunday, when he was attacked with severe pain and died very suddenly. An inquest was held by Coroner DALY and by post mortem examination, it was found that his death resulted from the wound received from the prisoner, his skull having been badly fractured. He was a young man of exellent habits and an efficient officer.

Dan W. CLEVELAND Age 58, of Joliet, IL, passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2002 at his home. Born November 18, 1943 in Joliet. Dan was a graduate of the Gardner South Wilmington High School. He was formerly employed at the Morris Paper Mill in Morris, IL. In earlier years, Dan was an avid bowler and had bowled on many leagues. Surviving are his mother, Jane K. Mrs. Kate BATTENHOUSE CLEVELAND, 90 of Marley died suddenly Monday evening, on her 68th wedding anniversary. She was stricken at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Elizaetta EATON THOMAS, 703 Oneida Street, where she had spent the winter. She was born in Green Garden township. She was a member of the Marley M.E. church and the Marley Missionary society. Her husband Adelbert J. CLEVELAND died Sept. 3, 1943. She is survived by Mrs. THOMAS and another daughter, Mrs Mary MARSHALL of Marley, with home she made her home; and three sons, Ike A. of Orland Park, Clayton of Marley, and William J. of Minnesota; 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; one brother, Martin BATTENHOUSE of Lemont, and several nieces and nephews. Dr. Cole, Former Joliet Man, Dead Dr. G. W. I. COLE, formerly a resident of Joliet, and at one time a practicing dentist here, died at his late home, 328 Englewood avenue, Chicago, Wednesday night. Deceased is survived by his widow and a son, Dr. Robert I. COLE, of Appleton, Wis., also a sister and brother who reside in England. The remains will be brought here for burial Saturday and will arrive at 1 o’clock over the Rock Island road and will be taken at once to Oakwood cemetery for interment. The services will be conducted at the home in the morning at 10 o’clock. Deceased was born in Glouchester, England, October 3, 1835, and was married January 20, 1885, to Miss Robena ROBERTSON, thw widow who survives with their only son.

E.C. “Colie” Colehower, 85, of Miami, Florida, formerly of Peotone, died Friday (December 16, 2005) at Baptist Hospital in Miami. At his request there will be no public visitation. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Peotone Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Peotone Paramedics or to the American Heart Association. Fedde-Helfrich Chapel, Peotone, is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Colehower owned and operated an Amoco distributorship for Amoco in Peotone and surrounding areas for 25 years. His father, Harry Colehower, retired in 1955 from Amoco, and together they were in the business for 55 years in the area. He sold his business in 1980 and retired. He was born January 31, 1920, in Toluca, the son of Harry C. and Emma J. Pelz Colehower. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Peotone. He served in the U.S. Army during World War 2 and was a member of the Peotone American Legion Post 392 for over 50 years, managing the Legion lounge at its inception for three years. He loved golfing. He was a member of the Peotone Golf League for 40 years and the Kendale Lakes Country Club Golf League for 20 years. Surviving are his wife, the former Marjorie LaVoue, whom he married June 26, 1947; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Kirk and Alice Colehower of Houston, Texas, Mark and Susan Colehower of Peotone, Scott Colehower of Miami, Florida; one daughter and son-in-law, Kaye and Glenn Bishop of Tallahassee, Florida; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Leander CONARD

CONARD-Leander CONARD, died Wednesday Oct. 23, 1901, at 5 o’clock, at Elwood. The funeral will be at Elwood, Friday afternoon, Oct. 25, at 2 o’clock. He was a poor child thrown upon the mercies of a hard world at a very tender age, but was adopted into a good home and found a loving mother and a kind and indulgent father. In his last day when the vigil of none but a devoted mother would suffice, his heart’s longings were satisfied. He passed away in peace.

Goodman COOK

DEATH OF THE LOCK-UP KEEPER. — Not many pass away from earth leaving, in sphere lefty or or lowly, a more unblemished record of honest worth than ‘Old Father Cook,’ late and for five years past in charge of the City Lock-up. He was simple-hearted, kind, and faithfulnever had an enemy. Of all the hundreds of rough and callous prisoners that in the course of his duties came into his charge, not one but spoke of Goodman COOK with respect, and many, form a place to their class usually believed barren of all pleasant associations, have carried away kindly remembrances of the kind old man. He died yesterday morning, of bilious colic, at the age of fifty. He was a member of the Masonic fraternity, who will take charge of his remains, which are to be interred at Joliet, where deceased formerly resided. Record Number: 18600330fp011

Margaret COON

Mokena. — Sudden Death. April 27th, 1880. — This town was somewhat startled by the very sudden death of Margaret COON, whose husband is now in the Will County Jail, charged with the crime of rape. Last night, about ten o’clock, the people were aroused by the cries of little children in the street. On being questioned as to the cause of their trouble, they said their mother was dead. Upon going to their home, their mother was found lying upon the floor, a corpse. From every appearance, she had got up, gone to the door, and, on returning, had dropped down dead, with a lamp in her hand, which was not broken. Coroner SEALS held an inquest on the body this morning and Dr. H. W. ALEXANDER made a post-mortem examination, assisted by Drs. CLARK and BECKER. The verdict of the jury was apoplexy of the heart. She leaves five small children, all less than ten years old, and in very destitute circumstances, their relatives refusing to do anything for them, even refusing to bury her. Funeral tomorrow at 10 o’clock a.m , at the M. E. Church. Neighbor.

Stanley C COOPER

Stanley C. COOPER. At the age of 88, passed away Monday June 12, 2006. Born March 28, 1918 on his parent’s farm in Orland Park Illinois. He was raised and farmed in Orland Park until 1959 when he continued to farm and raise his own family in Manhattan IL. He was President of the Orland Center School Board for many years. He was also an active parishioner and board member of the Manhattan United Methodist Church and valued member of the community, as well as, a member of the Will County Farm Bureau. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Elsie (SAYERS); and son, Terry. Survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Violet (JACOBSON) COOPER; children, Leon (Betty) COOPER; Dale (Mary Kay) COOPER and Priscilla (Stan) LANTKA; as well as, grandchildren, Melissa (Tom) MAYER; Amy COOPER; Peter (Betsy) LANTKA; Jenni (Steve) SCHAEFER; Curtis COOPER; Rebecca LANTKA; and great-grandchildren, Robert & Shannon MAYER. Visitation Friday June 16, 2006, 5:00 p.m to 8:00 p.m. at Forsythe Funeral Home, 507 S. State Street, Manhattan IL. Richard Stanley CORCORAN

Obituary for Richard Stanley Corcoran, Sr.: Stan Corcoran, sailplane pioneer, businessman dies Stan CORCORAN was setting flying records long before anyone ever heard of “The Right Stuff.” Corcoran, who died Thursday while visiting his daughter in Dallas, Texas, came to Joliet before World War II and operated the sailplane factory, manufacturing sailplanes he had designed and developed. His first factory was downtown on Joliet Street, said Bob RICH, a longtime friend. Shortly before World War II Corcoran built and operated a sailplane factory that adjoined Lewis College Airport. He had designed a two-place trainer sail plane called Cinema II, in which he set a Midwest soaring record for two-man gliders: 105 miles in April 1941. A year earlier, Corcoran had set a Midwest solo record of 125 miles. After war broke out, Corcoran sold one of his sailplanes to the U.S. Air Force — the first powerless aircraft the Air Force ever owned. After the war, the unused aircraft were declared surplus and sold to individual buyers. About five years ago, Corcoran located No. I Cinema II and purchased it from the owner, Rich said. He brought the plane back to Joliet and had the aircraft department at Lewis College completely overhaul and rebuild it. He and his friends flew it that summer. Shortly thereafter, Corcoran gave the plane to the Smithsonian Institution, which still possesses it. After World War II, Corcoran organized and operated R.S. Corcoran Company, a manufacturing company specializing in the design and production of industrial pumps used primarily for handling corrosive materials. The factory is located in New Lenox. Corcoran’s daughter, Gale K. ANDERSON, and his son, Richard S. Corcoran, Jr., survive him.

Henry CORDING

Henry CORDING, 63 if Peotone, a lifelong resident of the area died Sunday at Silver Cross hospital, Joliet, after a short illness. His body will lie in state from noon today at the Fedde and Helfrich chaped, Peotone, where final rites will be held at two p.m. tomorrow. The Rev. E.H. PLASSMAN pastor of the Immanuel Lutheran and Reformed church, Peotone, will officiate at the services, and burial will be held at the Zion Lutheran cemetery, Crete. Mr. CORDING was born August 18, 1887, in Rich township. He farmed in the Monee area and later was employed at the Steger Products company plant. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Viola RICHMOND of Peotone and Mrs. Cordula TOBECK of Plano, IL.; one step-brother, Harry BOHN of Peotone; and six grandchildren.

Louise CORDING

Mrs. Louise OLDENDORF CORDING was born December 27, 1880 in Black Walnut and passed away last Friday, February 15, in St. James hospital. As a child she attended school at Black Walnut and was confirmed by Rev. BRAUER. She was united in marriage to Henry CORDING February 19, 1911 and they had made their home near the OLDENDORF homestead. To them were born two daughters, Viola and Cordula, who with there father are left to mourn her passing. There are also among the survivors two brothers and four sisters. The funeral services were held today from the home and at Zion Lutheran cemetery, with Rev. Henry WENTE officiating, and interment was in the Zion Lutheran cemetery.

Services were held Tuesday afternoon for Lila Eva BAUGHMAN CROSS of Crete, formerly of Park Forest. Mrs CROSS died 14 March 1999 at St Margaret-Mercy Health Care Center in Dyer IN. She was born 8 Nov 1913 in Mason City. She was raised by Fred and Amanda STOLZENBACH. She was an accountant for CNA. Mrs CROSS is survived by three daughters, Henrietta (Bob) BISPING of Dyer, Deanna (Bing) BISPING of Monee, and Laurel Li (Leonard) MACK of Sandwich; five sons Chester (Susan)CROSS of Peotone, Harvey (Peggy) CROSS of Palatine, Lanny (Carol) CROSS of Crete, Kenneth (Ruth) CROSS of Chicago Heights and LeRoy (Linda) CROSS of Riverdale; 20 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; and a sister Dora MENKE of Beecher. She was preceded in death by her husband Richard in 1989. The funeral was held March 16 at Hack Funeral Home in Beecher. The Rev Mark Larson of Zion Lutheran Church in Beecher officiated. Burial was in Skyline Memorial Park in Monee.

Robert CROSS

Robert J CROSS, 69, of Manteno, formerly of Peotone, died Saturday (1 March 1997), at his home. Visitation will be Monday from 2-9pm at the Fedde-Helfrich Chapel in Peotone, where services will be at 11am Tuesday. The Rev Michael Ginter will officiate. Burial will be in Peotone Cemetery. CROSS, a retired barber, owned a barber shop in Peotone. He also worked at the Kankakee State Hospital. He served as the supervisor for Peotone Township, was on the Peotone Village Board, was a member of the Peotone Masonic Lodge, the Peotone American Legion Post 392, thew VFW Post 2234 and the Kankakee Moose Lodge. He served with the US Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He was born 10 July 1927 in Detroit MI, the son of Betty MELCHIORI. Surviving aer his wife, the former Rindy MEYERS; two sons and daughters-in-law, Randall and Karen CROSS of Jacksonville FL, and Steven and Nancy CROSS of Peotone; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Terry and Lanny RUSSELL of Downers Grove and Jane and Tom BOTKA of Plainfield; two step-daughters and a step-son-in-law, Angel and Jim BERTUCCI of Frankfort and Donna CHIAPPETTI of Chicago Ridge; nine grandchildren, three step- grandchildren; and an aunt Nora AMADEI of Peotone.

Arline Mabel CROXEN

Peotone – Arline M. Croxen, 76, a lifelong resident of Peotone, died at home on December 27, 1979. She was born in Peotone on November 25, 1903 to Henry & Julianna Deininger. She was married to Gerald (Murphy) Croxen who died in 1966. She was a retired teacher and worked with her husband in produce until his death. She was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ, American Legion Auxillary, Royal Neighbors of America, Peotone H.E.A. Golden Keys, Senior Citizens of Eastern Will County and a superintendent of the Will County Fair. Survivors include several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents 2 brothers and 3 sisters. Funeral services were held Sunday, December 30 at Fedde-Helfrich Chapel in Peotone with Rev. Dean Plassmann officiating. Mrs. Ronald Werner served as organist. Pallbearers were Robert Pooley, Gary Hoskins, Dennis Beutien, Walter Rokus, Russell Anderson and Ervin Daniels. A Royal Neighbors service was held at 8 pm on Saturday. Burial was at Peotone Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Peotone Paramedics or Immanuel United Church of Christ.

Michael CROXEN

Michael F. Croxen, 51, of Kankakee, formerly of Peotone, died Sunday, February 5, 2006, at Provena St. Mary’s Hospital. Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday at Fedde-Helfrich Chapel, Peotone. Memorials may be made to the family. He was born June 8, 1954, in Aurora, the son of Howard F. and Barbara M. Loser Croxen. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Surviving are one sister, Christine “Tiger” Croxen of Peotone; one brother, Pat Croxen of Peotone; two nieces, Amber and Mandy Croxen; and one nephew, Bryan Croxen. His parents are deceased.

Charles F CURRY

Died.

In this village, on the 26th inst., of consumption, after a long and tedious sickness, Charles F. CURRY, only son of Col. John CURRY, aged 22 years. The subject of this notice was an extraordinary young man. Through his whole life he was remarkable for his evenness of temper, his kind spirit and his sedate and unobtrusive manners. Of such an amiable disposition, possesing business faculties and habits of a superior order, and leading a life of exemplary virtue, sustained by the follies or vices of youth, he enjoyed the confidence, while living, of all his acquaintances, and died universally lamented. Few are remembered with more respect, or mourned more generally and sincerely. In justice to the memory of the deceased, it can be affirmed with safety and pleasure, that his moral worth, industry, and strict integrity constituted him on of the most estimiable members of society. As in health, so in sickness the same quiet and uncomplaining spirit seemed to prevail — not a murmur was heard from his lips, not one complaint was dropped from his tongue. While this amiable person, by correct deportment in life has reflected great honor upon the parents who have guided his youth, he left an example worthy of imitation for all, especially for his young associates, who so numerously assembled to pay the last tribute of respect to departed worth. – – Com.
