Louis D PALMER

Louis D. PALMER, who had resided in Joliet for more than a score and a half years, died at his residence on the West Side, Saturday morning, the 15th inst., after an illness of about four weeks. Mr. Palmer was a native of Essex county, New York, and came to Will county in 1845. In the war of the rebellion he enlisted in HENSHAW’s Battery, of Ottawa, and served until peace was proclaimed. He was popular with his comrades in arms, as manifested by the presentation to him upon the return home of a tattered and war-worn flag by members of the company. And in this connection it is proper to state that the same flag, by request of the owner, enshrouded the remains of the deceased when consigned to their last resting place. He was a kindhearted man, liberal almost to a fault, and believed in speaking the truth at all times. His death is lamented by a large circle of friends as well as by his relatives. The funeral took place Sunday, services being held at the Central Presbyterian church, the Rev. A. H. DEAN officiating, the remains being conveyed to Oakwood Cemetery, followed by a large number of mourners and friends.
