Visitation for Irene M. Zaffino, 76, formerly of Peotone, will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Fedde-Helfrich Chapel in Peotone, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday. Rev. Michael Ginter will officiate. Burial will be in the Peotone Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Barb City Manor of DeKalb or to the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Mrs. Zaffino died Wednesday, October 29, 2003, at Kishwaukee Community Hospital in DeKalb. She was born May 5, 1927, in Chicago Heights, the daughter of Bernhard A. and Jessie A. Deininger Ebsen. Her husband, Bruno Zaffino, whom she married October 31, 1947, in Peotone, died in 1976. Surviving are 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Ralph (Cheryl) Zaffino of West Chicago and Ray (Joyce) Zaffino of Shorewood; 2 daughters and 1 son-in-law, Phyllis (Neal) Pleckham of Sycamore and Patty Cowper of Houston, Texas; 9 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter; 1 brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Betty Ebsen of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.; 1 sister, Mary Carstens of Peotone; and 1 sister-in-law, Marlyn Ebsen of Manteno. Services were held Saturday morning for Irene M. Zaffino, 76, formerly of Peotone. Mrs. Zaffino died October 29, 2003 at Kishwaukee Community Hospital in DeKalb. She was born May 5, 1927 in Chicago Heights. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Peotone and Peotone American Legion Auxiliary Post #392. Mrs. Zaffino is survived by 2 sons, Ralph (Cheryl) Zaffino of WEst Chicago; Ray (Joyce) Zaffino of Shorewood; 2 daughters, Patty Cowper of Houston, Texas and Phyllis (Neal) Pleckham of Sycamore; 9 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter; a brother Bob (Betty) Ebsen of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; a sister, Mary Carstens of Peotone and a sister-in-law, Marilyn Ebsen of Manteno. she was preceded in death by her husband, Bruno Zaffino in 1976; they were married on October 31, 1947 in Peotone; her parents, Berhard A. and Jessie A. Deininger Ebsen; and a brother George (Barney) Ebsen. The funeral was conducted November 1 at Fedde-Helfrich Chapel in Peotone. Father Michael Ginter officiated. Burial was in Peotone Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Barb City Manor of DeKalb or the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Lizzie ZAPF

Lizzie ZAPF, wife of Andrew ZAPF, and daughter of John W. WILLIAMS, of this city, died at the residence of her husband, in the southern part of this township on Thursday the 6 (illegible), aged 23 years. The funeral took place Saturday, the remains being interred in St. John’s German Catholic cemetery. The funeral procession was one of the largest in this city.

Ruth ZATTEAU

Ruth E. Zatteau, 86, of Peotone, died Thursday, April 3, 2003, at the Anchorage of Beecher. Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Sunday at the Fedde-Helfrich Chapel in Peotone. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Immanuel United Church of Christ, Peotone, where she was a member. Rev. Clarence Bangs will officiate. Burial will be in the Manhattan Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Don Zatteau, Matt VanOrdstrand, Kelly Bewsey, Don Jeffers, Don Robbins and Ralph Waldhauser. Memorials may be made to Immanuel United Church of Christ, Peotone, or to the Anchorage of Beecher. She was born February 3, 1917, in Manhattan, the daughter of Edward and Emma Werner Mueller. Her husband, Harold Zatteau, whom she married June 1, 1938, in Manhattan, died in 1989. Surviving are 1 son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Wanda Zatteau of Grand Rapids, Mich.; 1 daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Les VanOrdstrand of Monee; 3 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; and 2 sisters and 1 brother-in-law, Dorothy Waldhauser of Beecher and Marjorie and Lloyd Schmidt of Manhattan. An infant brother, Raymond is deceased.

David A. ZECHLIN

David A. ZECHLIN Age 63, of Land O’Lakes, WI, died unexpectedly at home Saturday, December 27, 2003. His memorial service was held Tuesday, December 30, 2003, at Land O’Lakes Bible Church with interment in the church cemetery. Dave was born April 9, 1940, in Joliet to Alfred and Lillian (BAUMGARTNER) ZECHLIN of Frankfort. After working his way up from teller to executive vice president at Frankfort State Bank, he retired from banking in 1980 and moved with his family to northern Wisconsin. In the ensuing years he has been employed in the outfitting field. He found great pleasure in serving area churches as Sunday School teacher, treasurer and board member. Survivors include Carol (BRISSON)whom Dave married in 1970; son Jon (Jennifer), West Bend, WI; daughter Linnea (Lee) FREDERICK Eagle River, WI; Ron and Jan BRISSON Durham, CT, and Carol’s stepfather, Jack SAMUELS Lewisville, OH.

Dorothy ZIRZOW

Dorothy Zirzow, 92, of Crete, died Wednesday, July 24, 2002, at the Anchorage of Beecher Nursing Home. Visitation will be from noon Saturday until the 3 p.m. services at Hack Funeral Home, Beecher. Rev. Frank Hoss will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul’s United Church of Christ Cemetery, Monee. Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s United Church of Christ. She was born June 8, 1910, in Monee, the daughter of Herman and Lydia Bohlander Zirzow. Surviving are two sisters, Wilma Stolzenbach and Lorraine Zirzow, both of Crete. One sister, Evelyn, is deceased. Miss Zirzow was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Monee.

Raymond ZORAN

ZORAN — Raymond ZORAN, 4 weeks old son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael ZORAN, 1312 North Center street, died last night at 8 o’clock, The funeral was held this afternoon at 3 o’clock from St. Joseph’s church. Burial was in St. Joseph’s cemetery.

Grace ZORNOW

Cremation rites have been accorded for Grace A. Zornow, 87, of Ft. Myers, Florida, formerly of University Park and Peotone. Mrs. Zornow died August 28, 2004. She had been employed at Acme Steel in Riverdale and later was employed as a service representative for Social Security Administration in Kankakee. She had also worked part time for Johnson’s Greenhouse in Peotone and Bob’s Auto Service in Matteson. She was a volunteer for many years at Eastern Will County Senior Services in Monee and recently volunteered at the Southwest Florida Community Foundation in Ft. Myers. Mrs. Zornow is survived by two daughters, Susan Meyer of Ft. Myers and Anne (Don) Kinney of Punta Gorda, Florida; 2 grandsons, Shawn (Karol) Meyer of New Lenox and Scott (Candace) Meyer of Kankakee; 2 great grandchildren and a sister, Doris Dunbar of Basking Ridge, New Jersey. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Zornow and a daughter Joan. Burial was in Peotone Cemetery.

Catherine ZYBAK

Catherine Zybak, 76, of Peotone, died Tuesday, October 19, 2004, at her home. Cremation rites have been accorded. Private family services were held. Memorials may be made to the Peotone Paramedics. Fedde-Helfrich Chapel, Peotone, is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Zybak formerly worked at Bennett Industries of Peotone. She was born July 12, 1928, in Johnson City, Tennessee, the daughter of John and Catherine Clark Storrie. Surviving are her husband, John Zybak, of Peotone, whom she married April 25, 1947 in Harvey; three sons, John A. (Cindy) Zybak of Peotone, Gary (Carrie) Zybak of Frankfort, Thomas (Mary) Zybak of Manteno; two daughters, Catherine M. (James Bowman) Zybak of Elloree, South Carolina, Margaret (George) Walton of Charleston, South Carolina.; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. One brother, John Storrie; and one sister, Margaret Holstrom, are deceased.

John Zybak, Jr., 80, of Peotone, died today, March 24, 2005 at his home. Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial visitation will be from 10 am Saturday until the noon memorial service at Fedde-Helfrich Chapel, Peotone. Honorary pallbearers will be Greg Zybak, Michael Zybak, Donald Zybak, Steve Zybak, Jr., Larry Shedwill and Ed Sterling. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Kankakee Valley or the Peotone Paramedics. Mr. Zybak was a retired forklift foreman from Wyman Gordon of Harvey. He was born July 15, 1924 in Harvey, the son of John, Sr. and Anna Paholik Zybak. His wife, Catherine Zybak, whom he married April 25, 1947, died on October 19, 2004. Surviving are 3 sons, John (Cindy) Zyback of Peotone; Gary (Carrie) Zyback of Frankfort; Thomas (Mary) Zybak of Manteno; 2 daughters, Catherine (James) Bowman of Elloree, South Carolina and Margaret (George) Walton of Charleston, South Carolina; 9 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren and 1 brother Richard (Linda) Zybak of Chicago Heights. An infant daughter and 3 brothers are deceased. Mr. Zybak served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of the Peotone American Legion Post 392.
